Urban Saga I – Deepest Secret - Chicago
“Here is the deepest secret nobody knows. Here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud...” - e. e. cummings
I finished this image a while ago but I'm only now presenting it publicly. In the meanwhile it has won a few important awards I'm proud of, like Gold medal and 2 Silver medals at PX3 2015 Paris and FAPA 2015 London, where it was category winner. Why I didn't show it so far? I'm talking about this on my website http://blog.juliaannagospodarou.com/living-your-photography/
I'll be back to Chicago mid October for a conference and a workshop. Details on that very soon.

Ansel Adams and Visualization versus Vision – Why Vision comes first
http://blog.juliaannagospodarou.com/visualization-versus-vision-why-vision-comes-first/ I'm sure most of you have heard about Ansel Adams' “visualization”. And I'm sure you've also heard about vision. Or you might ask yourselves what these two concepts really mean.  Here's a new article I just published where I talk extensively about  visualization versus vision, as 2 very important steps in creating fine art photography, and I give a few tips too. If you want to know why I consider that vision comes first, I invite you to read the article and let me know what you think.

The Guide to Vision - Replay
I've received many questions lately about vision, from my mentoring or workshop student and other fellow photographers. Here is an article that gives an answer to many of those questions and that can be useful if you're asking yourself about this topic: my Guide to Vision, meant for both beginner and advanced photographers, also included in the book From Basics to Fine Art, along with many other vision related topics that I'm writing about together with my co-author @jo Here's a link to the book bit.ly/basicstofineart If you have other questions, please send them to me and I will answer them in a Q&A article soon. Hope this guide will be helpful. Enjoy!

What is Photography Drawing, or simply PhtD?
In a word, it is the method I created to process my B&W photos as if I would “draw” them. If you want to learn how I do it, there are different choices: either you read the book From Basics to Fine Art bit.ly/basicstofineart  by me and +Joel Tjintjelaar or read the tutorials on my blog, or come to one of my workshops, in Athens and worldwide, or do a mentoring program with me. Or order the latest issue of PhotoPlus magazine, the world's best selling Canon magazine where I share many tips for BW fineart and PhtD. More about this tomorrow. In the meanwhile you can have a look at the book. Wishing you an exciting day/night and start “drawing your photographs” :)

Nightly Love in Paris
Fine Art Street Photography. What is Fine Art Street Photography?
http://blog.juliaannagospodarou.com/fine-art-street-photography/ It is a new photography style I’m working on and a new concept too. It is the blend of fine art photography with street photography, holding inside my vision and keeping the best of both styles. You can read more about it in my new blog post above. Shot in Paris during my latest black and white fine art workshop there.
PS. Happy National Day to all my French friends! Bonne fête, mes amis! Vive la France! :)

Still super happy about the PX3 awards but even  happier when my work and ideas are appreciated. Have a look at what one of my students has to say about my courses and teaching methods. I have to say I felt spoiled by her comments and I'm very grateful every time I hear such good words. They give a new meaning to what I try to do in black and white photography, which is to promote it as an art form.
Paddy Dawson is not only a talented photographer, but a very enthusiastic person and  I love her writing style too. Be sure to check out the rest of her blog and her lovely still life photography. http://www.paddyd.co.uk/diary/2015/06/black-and-white-fine-art-photography/ #IloveMyStudents #IloveBWPhotography

The things we love...
As you all know I love teaching B&W photography and I love my students. And what better reward than when they love me back? This fuels my enthusiasm for doing it and  makes me want to do everything I can to help them reach their dream in photography. They deserve it because they are great and talented artists. Have a look at the work my students are creating, at their websites,  and find out why they love me and why I love them. Thank you guys! I'm so proud of you! Yours truly, photography teacher :)

“Paris n'est pas une ville, c'est un pays.”   - Francis I
Working on the routes for my Paris Workshop  in June and remembering the first time I shot this city when I was a student. It was a dream come true and from then on, every time I go to Paris I feel the same joy and enthusiasm. I have 2 favorite cities, one is Paris, the other is New York.  New York is the most exciting but Paris is the most inspiring and it will always be my soul city. Paris taught me about art when I was a kid and much of my love for art comes from the books I've read about this city when I was a kid and teenager.
That's why, working on a location map for shooting in Paris is one of the most enjoyable things I can think of.  If you have a favorite pace to shoot in Paris I would love to know what that is.

One of the “serious” photos we took at Athens Workshop. As you can understand, the main workshop activity besides comparing cameras, filters, backpacks and joking about selections, was to take fine art selfies.
More to come... :)
Chris, Finn, John, DeMarcus, Mykolas, Panagiotis, Stefan, Aggelos and everyone, it was great meeting you. Thank you for coming and looking forward to your (serious) images!

Fantastic light conditions today shooting the sunset at Athens workshop.
Great team and a lovely guest: +DeMarcus Allen  - official +DxO Ambassador. You can see him in the photo together with my camera:). DeMarcus showed our students some super cool tricks you can do with DxO and I'll show you some more at my Webinar for DxO on April 7th. My new Firecrest +Formatt-Hitech  Filters put to great use today, can't wait to show you the results and I might also show you some ”fine art selfies” too from our experiments today. smile emoticon All in all, Athens workshop is about learning, shooting great photography and having lots of fun doing it.

Ready for Athens Workshop starting tomorrow!
Happy to try out my new +f-stop  backpack and even more happy my new +Formatt-Hitech  Firecrest filters (16, 10 + 3 stops) arrived just in time. Many thanks James Stamp for the fantastic help and huge thumbs up to Formatt-Hitech for sending the filters on such short note so I can make my Athens and Chicago workshops + NYC trip (after I broke my Firecrest 16 a couple weeks ago – I don't wish you that, I fainted when I saw the cracks on my filter). One more reason to be happy, we'll welcome tomorrow  +DeMarcus Allen official +DxO  Ambassador who came to Athens especially for the workshop, representing DxO. Can't wait to meet my students tomorrow. They are already all in Athens enjoying the city.

+Topaz Labs  Feature & B&W Effects discounts
The people at Topaz are once again super awesome, not only because they featured my work once more (much thank you for this!!!), but because they give a great discount for B&W Effects 2. Get it here http://bit.ly/TopazLabsPro for only 39.99 USD (from 59.99 USD) till March 31st. It's the best B&W plugin I've worked with so far. And if you want to get 15% discount for any other Topaz product you can use my code “juliaannagospodarou” to order them from the link above. The Topaz Collection is hands-down the best and most complete plugin collection out there and if you were to get only one set of plugins I would warmly recommend Topaz. I use it in all my images and I couldn't live without it.  Another tip: check out Topaz DeNoise and see what it can do with removing noise from your photos. You'll be amazed.

Here are the best images from my last November workshop. http://camerapixo.com/publications/landscape-nature-architecture  Have a look  to see how talented the participants are and to see what you can create if you follow your vision and  process your images with the method I'm teaching, Photography Drawing (PhtD). EQUIVALENTS I
Pennzoil Place, Houston, TX – Arch. Philip Johnson
http://blog.juliaannagospodarou.com/equivalents-i-pennzoil-place-houston-tx/
The start of a new series and maybe a new direction in my work, a direction not so minimalist as before, with more complex subjects and relations among them. As always, my images are born from my experiences and I'm trying to tell my stories through them -  through black, white and shades of gray, through lines and shapes.
See in my blog post above the whole story of the image, the tech side and a video about its creation.
I call this series Equivalents as an homage to Alfred Stieglitz, the “father”of fine art photography, the one who used this word for the first time in the beginning of 20th Century to create the first abstract photography series in history, when he shot more than 200 photographs of clouds deprived of anyother ... more »

This is what I aim for too when creating (en)Visionography. To communicate with the viewer through symbols, and I create this symbols by using architectural shapes and shades of gray.
I shot this image on a trip I made to Houston, TX, together with my friend and wonderful photographer +Mabry Campbell  Check out his work, it's fantastic. Houston is an amazing city and Mabry knows everything about it so I got the best of what this city has to offer.
Shot with +Formatt-Hitech  ProStop ND filters 10+6 stops. Nowadays I'm using only Firecrest 16, which is THE filter to shoot long exposure.
Much more about how I create my images + a demo of my entire processing workflow at Athens Workshop March 28-29. Only a couple spots left. http://blog.juliaannagospodarou.com/athens-workshop-2015/___

I was lucky for my work to be noticed, appreciated and awarded internationally very soon and this helped me evolve and continue to create my art, and this is what I want to give back to my students. LONDON Photowalk
Thanks everyone for coming on Sunday! It was great meeting you all, chatting about (en)Visionography and shooting together. London is a wonderful city and it's even better when you have good company. I can't wait to see your photos from the photowalk. You can upload them on the Fb and G+ events or on (en)Visionography group and you can tag yourself in this shot. I only added a few tags so I don't make mistakes. Looking forward to meeting you again soon in London or elsewhere and I promise you a great Athens workshop to those coming. London was the warming up, Athens will be the main dish :)

No better place in the world to discover your vision and learn about fine art photography than the city of art and philosophy, ATHENS. Just think of all the artists and philosophers that walked the paths of this city from the ancient times till today. Think of all the inspiration this city holds. You can breathe it in the air. This is why I love it. Get in touch with the essence of the artist you are in Athens and I promise I will teach you how to use this essence to create the photography you dream of.
Athens B&W Fine Art Workshop, March 28-29  bit.ly/Athens2015 Almost fully booked.
Act fast! Sign up and come shoot with me the places that inspired Socrates himself.
PS. We will shoot the Temple of Poseidon in the image and if you are lucky, I can arrange a meeting with Poseidon himself while we're at it. He is a very nice guy who loves the sea and photographers :)

Sea of Devotion II
http://blog.juliaannagospodarou.com/sea-devotion-ii-bw-processing-without-selections/
Shot a few days ago, while scouting for my next private workshop in Athens. If you want to book a private workshop with me (you can do it here bit.ly/workshops-mentoring), I'd be happy to teach you everything I know about B&W fine art and take you to the best locations in wonderful Athens or anywhere else in the world. I was born a traveler and I was born an artist. This is what  love to do most: share my knowledge and show others the best places for photography in the world.
Gear: +Formatt-Hitech  Firecrest 16 IRND filter, Canon 5D MK3 & T/S lens 24mm. Needless to say, the best ND filter you can shoot with. If you are an architectural or landscape photographer you need this filter just as much as you need your wide angle lens.

I edited this image almost without making any selection, just by “drawing” it. Interesting? I'll show you how soon.

When I started creating B&W fine art photography, my best reward was that I could finally express what I was feeling about the world by using light, shadow and shapes instead of using words. I believe this is what fine art photography can give us most: we can recreate our world outside of ourselves, through our images. I will talk about this and explain how you can express your vision and your unique personal style through fine art photography at Athens Workshop 2015, March 28-29. Watch a video with the thoughts of some of the students of the previous sold out edition plus a short presentation by me. HAPPY News - 3rd Prize at PX3 2014!!
Very honored and happy to find out that my series Exuberance of Strings has won another award: 3rd Prize for Advertising at PX3 2014 Prix de la Photographie Paris  Professionals – People's Choice Awards.
Earlier this year I had won a 1st + 2nd + 3rd Prize and 2 Honorable Mentions for my work at the regular PX3 2014. I can say I am over the moon  for these distinctions and I'm really grateful for everything that came my way professionally this year. Couldn't wish for more.
Congrats to all the winners, many names I know and admire among them  - see them here http://www.px3.fr/winners/public.php?compName=PX3%202014, and thanks to all of you for being there and providing inspiration and support.
