As Tropical Storm Andrea is projected to make landfall today (the first of the season), the Google Crisis Response team has updated its weather and alerts information on two crisis maps: the standard preparedness map (http://goo.gl/6T30A), as well as the State of Florida Emergency Preparedness map (http://goo.gl/bF4nH), created in collaboration with the Florida Division of Emergency Management. These embeddable maps show the projected path of the storm, wind and radar information, webcams, and more. Just returned from a lovely trip to Amsterdam, where I met journalists from +nrc.nl, NOS, and the +Global Editors Network. Really cool to hear about the work they're doing and think about ways Google's tools can help. Thanks to +Mark Jansen for being such an excellent host!
But it wasn't all work! I took advantage of the Monday holiday to walk the Nine Streets. Such a beautiful place!

The Crisis Response team is collaborating on a crisis map with Fabrice Recalt for Cyclone Mahasen. The map shows the storm's path, shelter locations in Bangladesh, flooded areas, rainfall levels and cloud imagery. The team will be adding updates as it collects more information. Tracking Climate Change News in the U.S.
Internews’ Earth Journalism Network (EJN) has just launched Climate Commons, an interactive map that displays the latest data and stories on the causes and impact of climate change around the United States. Explore climate change data like recent temperate, precipitation and emissions, along with local and national news coverage. To build this map, EJN used the +Google Maps API.

Google Earth Outreach is now live in Australia and New Zealand! The team's in Sydney right now kicking things off at Macquarie University, announcing partner projects and grants. Later this week we're hosting hands-on mapping workshops with 75 non-profit partners. Exciting stuff!
