This made me laugh out loud. "Pretty hate machine" would be an apt title if the mantis shrimp released an album. +Trent Reznor

I drew this comic a few years ago and it's still one of my favorites. I figured with all the mantis shrimp hullabaloo the poor little angler deserved a re-post.

It's kinda sorta awesome that HBO invited me to the Game of Thrones premiere last week, despite my piracy comic shenanigans:
http://theoatmeal.com/comics/game_of_thrones
I've been reading a lot of articles today about HBO's "torrenting is a compliment and it's not hurting DVD sales" attitude toward piracy, which is a pretty damn fantastic attitude to have, in my Oatmealish opinion. Perhaps that's why they invited a Thrones-pirating cartoonist to the premiere in the first place.

Happy Easter!
P.S. I wrote and drew this comic in like 4 minutes, so you're not allowed to dislike it. The rules of cartooning forbid it.

Movie recommendation time!
A few years ago this short about a bodybuilder who lives with his mother made its way around the internet:
Dennis
They turned it into a full movie called "Teddy Bear," and it's on Netflix streaming right now. I watched it last night and I wholeheartedly give it two glutes up.

Hey everyone, there's a feature about me in the latest issue of Time Magazine. It's the Feb. 11 issue with a picture of a US drone on the cover. A writer from Time flew from NYC a few weeks ago and interviewed me in Seattle. There isn't an online version yet (I think they put them up later after the magazine moves off the shelves), but if you get a chance to read the piece it's does a great job capturing the zeitgeist of web comics right now.

Guess what doesn't happen on Friday? The end of the world!
To be clear: the world is NOT coming to an end on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012. The Earth won't be destroyed. The Maya calendar has nothing to do with anything. The Sun won't align with a galactic black hole. Planet X doesn't exist. There is no planetary alignment. There won't be a solar storm that'll fry us. There are no giant asteroids on their way to impact us. The Earth's poles won't shift.
We good? Want more details? You got 'em:

Google plussers! I'm thinking about doing another "State of the web" for Winter 2012. Here's the last one I did:
http://theoatmeal.com/comics/state_web_spring
I was just considering doing a "this was the web in 2012" post, but I'm worried there's just too much material to work with. Plus Google did a Zeitgeist video today that pretty much blasts past anything I could hope to put together.
SO, what do you think is happening on the web RIGHT NOW? Here's what I've got so far:
Google Fiber gaining buzz. Please deliver us all from Comcast.
Google+ growing as fast as Facebook, over 500 million users
Psy becomes the most watched Youtube video
Pope starts tweeting

I heard a quote the other day and I can't figure out where it was from, but it went something like this:
"If all the insects on earth became extinct, all life as we know it would come
to an end in the next 50 years. If all humans became extinct, all other life
would flourish in the next 50 years."
I know M. Night Shyamalan's track record has been fairly awful since, well, ever, BUT this looks pretty fantastic and seems to encapsulate that quote:
AFTER EARTH - Official Trailer (2013)
