Pinterest has released a major update to their apps today, one that might easily be underestimated. It didn't even warrant a new version number, as it's just version 2.4 on iPhones, and the key new feature isn't even the first one listed on Pinterest's blog post:

Stanford professor Tina Seelig discusses one study, jazz musicians were asked to improvise while having their brains monitored via fMRI.

Something harmonic happened: As the artists performed, the parts of the frontal lobe associated with judgment went quiet. This shows that while self-monitoring is often useful--you don't want to say everything that passes through your mind--it can get in the way of new ideas.

Poacher trampled to death by elephant he was trying to shoot.

How writers can use Pinterest

Recently I had the pleasure of being the guest on #PinChat to talk Pinterest for authors and bloggers with Kelly Lieberman, we talked about how writers and bloggers can use Pinterest. I contributed to APE: Author, Publisher, Entrepreneur — How to Publish a Book, with a section called  How to Pin your Way to Success — An Author’s Guide to Pinterest in which I discuss how and why authors can use Pinterest.

Writers have much to think about when building their online presence and Pinterest can be a smart part of it. Pinterest has consistently been in the top four traffic referrers for blogs based on research done by Shareaholic. One benefit of using Pinterest is that you don’t have to create new content for Pinterest, you can add your blog content, add from other web sources or repin existing content on your boards.

Ditch your fear

"We all have fear. Fear is as normal as breathing.

The problem is that most people cling to their fears, and therefore are unable to move forward in their lives with necessary change.

I have learned a lot about fear in my life as a professional musician. And I've learned that the only difference between people who achieve greatness and those who do not is that the former ditched their fear. Many of the methods I have used to prepare for huge performances have helped me to conquer fear in other areas of life."
