TL; DR... When Scottish politics and UK politics collide, this week happens. Boom!

So if you're British, then you'll know that it's been a whirlwind week on the landscape of our political vegetable patch...

If your Scottish, then you'll know that our wee patch up at the north of the garden has decided to grow our own (albeit not typical) veg.

Enough with the garden analogies... The SNP (Scottish Nationalist Party), whether you have a positive or negative view on them has won 56 of the 59 available seats for Westminster (the government of Britain) representing Scotland's constituencies.

This doesn't automatically mean that these people have voted for some sort of referendum, but if something drastic happens, such as the UK pulling out of the EU without the consent or support of the Scottish constituents, it may very well happen.

So I've managed to grow some vegetables!! Hooray!! <3

Yes, there's quite a few weeds at the moment... I've not had the chance to get into the veg patch for a couple of weeks but I'll get there.

It's been a few months work, but I finally got stuck into some of my carrots and lettuce today that I grew from scratch. The carrots turned out small, but very sweet and the lettuce was very lettucey.

I'm surprised at how huge the lettuce has grown. I didn't expect it to sprout like it's been Photoshopped upwards.

My spinach hasn't really turned out, it started so well, but the crop seemed to get eaten and turned yellow :(

I've yet to pull the potatoes. Soon... Probably the weekend, I'll give it a go. Next year, I think I'll do the potato-in-a-bag thing. ^_^

My mint is flourishing and starting to flower... I think I'll need to keep a check on it as it's starting to spread and the lemon thyme is bringing so many bees and insects into the garden with its lovely flowers. Rosemary's doing well too, although the basil didn't like being replanted. :(

It's been fun doing the garden. Even better that I'm getting something from it :D___

Just a short blog-esque post tonight about my late father.

It's been 5 years today since my dad lost his battle against cancer in what I can describe as one of the most awful and traumatic days of my life. Google+ is one of the things that really helped me get over the majority of my grief.

So many of you know how awful it is to lose a loved one. Some dealing with it now... And I send all my love to those that are hurting.

I miss your support and guidance dad. Xx

Whether you're a lover or a hater on the Google+ login for all things Google including YouTube, you might be interested to know that there's some changes on the Googleverse coming.. And already here. ^_^

Everything in Its Right Place

It’s been a little more than a quarter since I took on leadership of a newly formed team, which we’ve christened SPS: Streams, Photos, and Sharing.

In that short time, I’ve had some time to reflect on the products we’ve built over the last few years, and also the opportunity to oversee the launch of our new Google Photos product. I’ve concluded that it’s time for a “pivot”... or more precisely time to talk more openly about a pivot that’s been underway for some time (and in fact is reflected in the name of the new team). We're going to continue focusing Google+ on helping users connect around the interest they love, and retire it as the mechanism by which people share and engage within other Google products.

Four years ago when we conceived of the “Google+ Project”, we made it clear that our goals were always two-fold: Google+ aspired to be both a “platform layer that unified Google’s sharing models”, and a product / stream / app in its own right.

This was a well-intentioned goal, but as realized it led to some product experiences that users sometimes found confusing. For instance, and perhaps most controversially, integration with YouTube implied that leaving a comment on YouTube (something users had obviously been doing successfully for years) suddenly and unexpectedly required “joining Google+.”

We decided it’s time to fix this, not only in YouTube, but across a user’s entire experience at Google. We want to formally retire the notion that a Google+ membership is required for anything at Google… other than using Google+ itself.

Some of the consequences of this shift in thinking have already been deployed. Others we’re rolling out as fast as possible (e.g. the changes to YouTube we referenced today). And many more will roll out over the rest of the year.

What does this mean for Google+ the product? Relieved of the notion of integrating with every other product at Google, Google+ can now focus on doing what it’s already doing quite well: helping millions of users around the world connect around the interest they love. Aspects of the product that don’t serve this agenda have been, or will be, retired. But you’ll also see a slew of improvements that make this use case shine (like the recent launch of Collections - https://plus.google.com/collections/featured).

It’s been incredibly gratifying to see how this strategy has played out as realized in the recent Google Photos launch, a product which in many ways embodies and telegraphs the changes discussed above. Google Photos not only doesn’t require a Google+ account, but as much of the functionality as possible doesn’t even require an account at all. It was important to me that when we launched Google Photos, we stressed the product implements sharing by any means a user prefers… without compromise or agenda. This is the right thing for users and the feedback and usage has been extremely validating.

I’m excited to share this strategy with the world, excited about what it means for Google+, and most of all for all of Google’s users.___Whether you're a lover or a hater on the Google+ login for all things Google including YouTube, you might be interested to know that there's some changes on the Googleverse coming.. And already here. ^_^

Sorry I've been a bit quiet over the last week. A very heavy work-schedule has meant I've not had much time to give my online friends!!

Here's a pic taken on my way into Stirling tonight. Very moody, but from a different light perspective, there were so many more pinks in the sky. If my dad were still here, he would have said that it looked like the sky was painted, it was so beautiful.

A fine sunset in Scotland.

Considering the last year of Scottish politics, it's been exciting to get involved with the conversation with friends and even talk to some of my representatives about the issues, be heard and let them know what I think of policies that with help or hinder our lives on a local level, something I probably wouldn't have done before.

Locally, congratulations to John McNally, our local barber from Denny who ran and won the Falkirk seat from Labour's Eric Joyce. John is a lovely approachable man that really has the community in mind. Westminster will be lucky to have him. We were cheering when the result came through!

So, currently Conservatives have the most seats... Labour usually has a large boost because of Scotland, but lost most of their seats to the SNP... But those tectonic plates at Westminster are still shifting, so who knows what's really going to happen.

Personally I think that a majority of Scottish voters are using their vote to say they want change. Perhaps cutting austerity measures or just want a shakeup of the system.

For those not in the know, the lady in the picture is +Nicola Sturgeon, Scotland's First Minister and the head of the SNP.___

Just a very quick #throwbackthursday and #blastfromthepast today.

I've been thinking of this gorgeous wee pooch, Katy, my mum's dog who was attacked by a bulldog on Sunday and got quite badly injured. But amazingly survived (much to the astonishment of the vets we've been to) and is getting better.

Katy is a part dachshund, part chihuahua and is a tiny little dog who was found in the gutter, in the snow as a pup a few weeks before my wedding by a family friend.

My mum and dad took her in while the local authority found out if she belonged somewhere. No one claimed her, so mum and dad took her in and gave her a forever-home.

She's given us a lot of love in her life, giving comfort to my dad when he was ill, a paw to lean on for my mum when dad passed away and always there for a little cuddle when I and Xander come to visit. Katy was one of the early... more »

This photo was the week after my wedding... I'd just arrived back from my honeymoon and was desperate to meet the little pup mum and dad had just brought into the family, even if I was really jet lagged. <3

We were on a boat yesterday with +Suzanne O'Hare and +Dominic McBride ... Also known as the tall ship out in Glasgow yesterday and also visited the Riverside museum and Burrell Collection too, with a mini picnic in Pollock Park... But these have to be the best photos.

Such an awesome day and dinner was scrummy too at TGI Fridays. Exhausting, but I enjoyed the little lie-in that Xander had this morning!

Easter blogness at the farm

I hope you had a lovely Easter!!

We've done the same activity for the third time running at Easter and visited Dunbar's East Links family farm, which is kinda like a giant park, with a farm on the side, educational areas and a mini-train running around it.

Xander had blast, as did his cousins, auntie, uncle, gran and grampa (who was wearing a matching t-shirt today with Xander <3) And Xander's favourite thing was to play in the giant sandpit! I think I've found something that has to be made for our garden for in the summer.

We couldn't believe the beautiful weather either... So beautiful that we didn't need jackets... Considering we had snow last week.

What did you get up to for your Easter?___
