i am a day late on this but nonetheless wanted to say happy birthday to +Dede Craig King and give her a little something for her birthday in the way of a mashup...i think this Emma Peel from the Avengers poster does her justice

look at the new notification icon the bell replaces the red box and it works amazingly well  I can even enter communities now by clicking on a community post and you can see all the pluses clearly and the back button works wonderfully!  this makes me happy now fix the 500 server errors and its perfect again

So. Are people still spouting the old "nothing to hide, nothing to fear" mantra? The whole debacle reminds how annoying I find it if I'm standing in line somewhere and a stranger reads over my shoulder, worse if it's when I'm reading or writing something on my mobile or tablet. There's a whole metaphorical and critical exploration that could be accompanied by that trivial thought, but I'm too mentally fatigued to expound on it. Bottom line kids: Snowden is a fucking legend. Verdict: Hero

Is there really such a thing as following your heart as opposed to your mind, to reason? Do we ever really abandon all reason and just go with it? I've went with it before, where I felt as if I was not in control of my mental faculties, but I was, I knew it and my mind knew it, but it was great to blame my heart when it was me and my mind all along. It's all in the brain.

Drop in average interaction with the new Google+ layout

Many people are mentioning in the last days that there is less interaction on their posts with the new layout.
We had the same feeling, but we like also to see some analytics with objective numbers ;)

We have analyzed 9.787 posts from 100 persons for the last 3 months and here is the result.

I've recently heard that if you mute someone or their posts, they will show up as blocked in a chat/hangout. Have you experienced this?

Also, TIL I've blocked 56 people in almost 2 years, 99.999% of which are blues faced spider sex monkeys, not too shabby.

Even though I knew, the Red Wedding episode was still one of those that makes you want to rip your throat out o.O I can't wait for the finale.

Random
This past week has been a bit of an abortion. I lost two very close loved ones. An uncle to a motorbike accident and a friend of our family to a heart attack in his sleep. Both were 47 years old, gone within days of each other. I ask not for pity, I don't need it, this is simply a post posteritas. I'm actually okay, considering. It's a small blessing I'm easily distracted (as evidenced by my few not-sad posts this week) which means my spurts of tearful mourning are fleeting and controlled, rather than a general morbidity that permeates my every waking moment. I'll miss them. Life goes on. That's all I have to say about that.

When cyber harassment, aka trolling the fuck out of someone until they turn blue, bleeds into meatspace, then it's no longer cyber harassment, it's simply harassment. An offence punishable (in some states) by a cease and desist or other form of protective order followed quickly by other punitive measures if the culprit refuses to obey. Harassment on the Internet is however a grey area, at least to me.

If someone repeatedly barges into your open doored house hurling abuse at you, you are not going to call the landlord to deal with your personal issue––he gave you a set of keys, he'd ask you to use them––you would call the police. It's a given that there exists certain people (1% of the population) who simply lack the capacity to care for their fellow man, to the extent they will inflict horrific torture and kill for their sadistic pleasure. They are of course psychopaths who make up 20% of prison inmates, are responsible for 50% of all violent crimes, with a 3-5 times higher recidivism rate than normal offenders.

This is not your average sociopath with a taste for blood. It's the person who will rape a 17 year old South African girl, slit her stomach open, pull her intestines out and replace it with broken shards of glass before breaking her fingers, legs then slitting her throat.

It fascinates me that given current neuro-scientific knowledge, that the above quote was written in 1886 by Auguste Villiers de l'Isle-Adam in Tomorrow's Eve.  More so given findings that damage to the brain's ventromedial prefrontal cortex not only affects emotions, but can eliminate some of them completely.

A few weeks ago, two posters highlighted a very bizarre finding on Google Plus. That your profile's gender specification (Male, Female, Other) influenced the content you saw in the former Explore and What's Hot tabs respectively.

Google's Chief Architect offered feedback that the Explore tab was using an older, more gender sensitive algorithm, however the What's Hot tab had been modernised, with gender as a factor, but not a big one. If anyone wants to know, what you see in What's Hot is supposed to take into account "properties inherent to the post and the viewer, which includes profile information," he said.
