Welcome to #ParadigmShift #3 :)

First of all, a massive THANK YOU to all who participated in #ParadigmShift #2 - it was so much fun seeing all the different post processing pics you came up with.

For #ParadigmShift  #3, I'm choosing an image close to my heart.  A few weeks ago, my brother +Dave Tomek and I went on a photowalk around #PortMelbourne   #Australia  - such a beautiful place to photograph.  One of the best known locations is #PrincesPier  - it's an absolute photogs delight.  That is, if you manage to dodge all the fishermen and other photogs in the area :)  For the history of the place, check out the Wikipedia article here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Princes_Pier

The posts in the water are what used to be the extension of the original pier - it would've been huge as behind me still stands a rather large pier.

I really enjoy being on G+. I got to see so many beautiful places I probably will never have the chance to see with my own eyes. Yet I could if I jump on a plane. Yet sometimes I ask myself how these places would have been years ago.
So what if our parents would have had social media already? Well obviously they did'nt, yet the photos are out there.
So lets get them out and share a world already gone.

Sometimes I am really amused about the constant hunger of media for the next thing on the internet. We had Gangam Style, then came the Harlem shake and now the proclaimed new thing is Hadouken.

Great Buddha Hall (大仏殿 Daibutsuden)

Sometimes a photography cannot grasp the sheer size of the object in front of the lens. So lets give it some background.

Todai-ji Temple complex:
- built between 728 and 751
- houses a 16m (52ft) Buddha statue in the great Buddha hall
- more than 2,6 million people built the hall and the buddha
- Japan nearly bankrupted, because nearly all bronze was used for the statue (500 tons)
- the current Buddha hall (see picture) has been finished in 1709, after fire destroyed the complex twice.
- 57m long and 50 m wide
- biggest wooden building in the world up until 1998
- still biggest roofed wooden building in the world.
- 30% smaller than the initial hall

I just returned from a 12 day trip to Japan. I have been to a lot of amazing places in the world, but hands down, this trip photographically was a dream come true. I visited Osaka, Nara and Kyoto. These are some of the oldest places in Japan. The city of Kyoto alone has 17 UN heritage sites. I am still in awe of the things I saw. So be prepared for some photos ;) I hope they can transport a little bit the beauty I have witnessed. Defiantly I will come back.

I am so excited. We will travel for the first time to Japan next week. I am so looking forward to photography Kyoto, especially at night. Anybody has some inside tips for places to photography away from the usual tourist track ?

The Classroom ... Google Style

My buddy +Bryan Woodward is in town again, and this time he had a very special treat for me. I was fortunate to be able to photograph some rooms in the +Google Taipei  office.

This is the auditorium on the 77th floor or the Taipei 101. Hands down this is the classroom with the best view in the world ;)

If one day +Google+  would decide to do a Nightphotography workshop, this would be the room. No need to step out of class, just turn the lights off !
