Cutting the Cord
I'm moving apartments later this month, and one thing I'm determined to leave behind is my monthly cable TV bill. But I need some help. So I'm going to use this space to figure out the devices and subscriptions I need to make this work.
Here's the setup I'm considering:
— Television (already own)
— Time Warner Cable Internet service ($30-$50/mo.)
— Boxee box with digital TV tuner ($230)
— Netflix streaming plan ($8/mo.)
— MLB.TV Premium ($125/year)
— Plug my laptop into my TV to watch iTunes purchases
That's about $60/mo. plus the one-time cost of the Boxee box and probably frequent but not enormous iTunes payments. That compares to my current bill of $150/mo. for cable internet and TV.
