Winter in Lapland
After challenging my camera in the acid clouds of Dallol by temperatures exceeding 40°C, I gave it a try by -30°C in Lapland. I was amazed by the result. My fingers froze before the camera showed any sign of fatigue!

Across Italy

After Venice, the hills of Tuscany. Of course, with the mandatory sunrise stop by Belvedere in San Quirico d'Orcia.

A bit of self-promotion today by pointing to the last post of the ZEISS camera lens blog. Now, I just have to get my hands on these new Batis lenses!

Weird stats

I'm sometimes going back to my images on Flickr and I noticed a surge of 3000 views for the following image over the weekend. The average daily count never exceeded 50 views over the last months, so I wonder what caused that sudden interest...

The photo was taken in Everglades City, a great location to explore the mangrove forests in kayak.

Reviewing 2014
With the end of the year around the corner, it's time to review the photo harvest of 2014. As always, my preference goes to the images I hoped to capture before undertaking a trip, but which I could not really control as I had to count on the weather or the right setting. This close up of a group of zebra in Etosha definitively makes it to the top three of my list.

Enjoying the great outdoors
This is exactly the shot I had in mind in anticipation to my trip to Namibia. The sky is so clear that I even managed to capture thousands of stars at ISO1250. This country is the paradise for any photographer and nature lover.

Back in Zurich after half a year spent in Copenhagen. It's now time to sort out memories and impressions on that wonderful city. The best IMHO: #Nørrebro Bryghus. Don't miss it!

Of course, cameras should stay inside pockets after crossing the gate.

Somebody said that the best camera is the one that is with you. Without my heavy photo gear (still at home in Switzerland), I really enjoy discovering the Copenhagen area with my phone's camera.
It's going to be Hipstamatic overdoses for six months...

Spinning down

Some years ago, I had an unexpected "subject" showing up in my camera viewfinder while shooting the #Muerrenbachfall. This guy was spinning down so close to the cliff that he was soaked wet at landing.

This place is close to #Lauterbrunnen, the Mecca of base jumpers.

Following the trend, here I am uploading some pics in vertical orientation. The new two-column layout  of Google+ finally makes the best out of wide screens.

The year 2013 started with a dramatic sunrise on Lake Lucerne but the incoming dark clouds soon muted the explosion of colors.
I wish you a happy new year with many sunny days!

Mesquite Dunes
I am spending a couple of days in the Californian backcountry before heading back to Switzerland. While visiting Death Valley, I had to be in the Mesquite Dunes by sunrise (was at the top of my bucket list). The weather forecast wasn't too good but the view was definitively worth waking up early.

Beautiful British Columbia
I'm back from BC and busy sorting out my images. This trip was very special to me, because I revisited places where I actually started using a camera. The beautiful scenery is definitively a great source of inspiration - even for non-photographers. Besides, Canadians are so friendly, it's always a pleasure to be back.

Soft layers
I am fascinated by the brush paintings of traditional Chinese masters like Qu Ding and Guo Xi, who created vaporous landscapes of layered mountain ranges. Searching for layers has become a habit on my travels, although I managed capturing only few keepers so far.

Pilatus
I took this picture a while ago and didn't like it much, because large snow surfaces in the foreground distracted from the main subject, the Pilatus summit across the lake. Sometimes, a good shot is just a crop away. Here is goes.

Iceland Highland
The ever changing weather makes it quite challenging to capture the sublime landscapes of the Icelandic Highland. Travelling around isn't easy either, unless you get the right truck for the "road" (see last photo and www.traveltech.ch).

The photogenic scenery of the Egyptian White Desert provides a good opportunity to practice with black&white conversion tools. This place is truly magical and I would return there anytime when the local political situation becomes more stable.
