This is where disabled mannequins are stored. It's is only a small corner of the second hand department at the Gruppo Corso mannequin warehouse in Breukelen. The biggest warehouse of it's kind in Europe! #ryb

Karla is one of the boats of #connexxion 's fast flying ferry line that connects Amsterdam to IJmuiden. Here she is just about making speed and elevates majestically out of the water. Heading out for IJmuiden.

Gashouder
The gas tank in the #westergasfabriek  at the #Westerpark  in  #Amsterdam . The building is now widely used for exhibitions, large company presentations and live shows.

The gas tank was built in 1902 and was then the largest gasholder in Europe. The gas was on top of the tank stored in a steel tank which could be extended to a height of forty meters.

Invincibly
The day after this picture was taken it was exactly fifty years ago the North Sea flooded. It took the lives of thousands of people and animals and damaging almost fifty thousand buildings.

In the Netherlands, an ambitious flood defence system was conceived and deployed, called the Delta Works (Dutch: Deltawerken), designed to protect the estuaries of the rivers Rhine, Meuse and Scheldt. The works were completed in 1998, upon completion of the storm surge barrier Maeslantkering, in the Nieuwe Waterweg, near Rotterdam.

I made this image to remember the lives the water took in those dramatic days a half a century ago. But also to not forget these forces are invincible. While sea levels are rising nowadays, how long shall the Delta Works be able to sustain? Inevitably in the end we can only go with the flows of nature.
