"I’m Like A Raven, I Collect Things"

Hrafn Gunnlaugsson is an Icelandic film director and he is one of those Characters no country can have enough of. The name Hrafn means raven. Which is very fitting because like the raven, Hrafn collects things. 

We were once walking past his house with friends of ours when he invited us in and showed us around, inside and out. His home is like a museum, he collects everything and what's more, he seems to know the story behind everything too. And as film maker he is a great story teller.

Some people may only see old stuff but he proofed how wrong they are...

Where blue feet are nothing to be ashamed of…

They are very tame, you can get very close to them and even interact with them. My husband was flirting with the female, giving her straws, which she happily accepted. The male took this as a challenge and went off to find bigger and longer straws ;-)

Riding The Bamboo Train

The Cambodian railways are not the best in the world so the people of Battambang in Cambodia took the matters into their own hand and built their own local rail service.

The bamboo train consists of appr. 3-meter long wood frame covered lengthwise with bamboo slats and operated by old gasoline engine. Each train can take up to 20 people and / or lot of cargo and can reach up to 40 km per hour on old and very warped railways. 

When the driver hears real train coming, everyone jumps off and quickly disassemble the bamboo train to let the real train past. They then reconstruct the bamboo train again and continue. 

It's one hell of a journey…

Fahd followed me for at least two hours, always keeping distance. When I decided to leave the Dargah, he came closer and while passing in front of the dhabas outside the shrine he gently pulled my shirt pointing at them. I bought him 3 meals, chapati and dal, which cost 15 rupies (a quarter USD). Fahd is one of the 870 million people in the world who do not have enough to eat and potentially one of the 7000 Indians who die of hunger every day.

Easter Dog

What is more appropriate for Good Fido Friday than a dog from Easter Island? 

If you want to be adopted by a dog, you should visit Easter Island. Lot of dogs roam the streets and tend to adopt a tourist for a day or two.

We spent Easter (of course) on Easter Island few years ago and we were adopted by number of dogs during our stay. This is one of four dogs that came hiking with us to the top of the Rano Kau volcano. 

And he turned out to be great little poser too :-)
