I figured I would step out of the box just a little bit for today's edition of +Sign Sunday with +Lori Carey +Janice La Mere Hackney and +Gary Posner.

I started shooting motorsports last year, but was relegated to shooting only two races of the WeRock Dirt Riot series.  Although there is a solid community of roundy round racing around my area, there's always been some turmoil with promoters fighting each other, scheduling on the same dates and all of that happy stuff, so I didn't go to any local tracks last year.

A while back, I surfed around the 'Net and found out that one local track was closed, while the same promoter was going to be running at the other two local tracks.  He ran into trouble with one track, but still is running at the other one.  I made contact with him and got the ground rules and off I went.

I need a little photography help from some #Texas photography folks, specifically the #Austin and #Sanantonio areas.  

Looks like I'm going to be in the general vicinity in just over a month shooting a race and looks like my time is going to be very limited in the area.  I'll be arriving Friday afternoon in the Fredricksburg area, the race is on Saturday and I will have to leave Sunday morning.

I would like to make a quick sidetrip Friday to either go into Austin and shoot the state capital or into San Antonio and shoot the Alamo.  This would be an evening shoot.  

I know I have a few people in my circles from the area like +Cooksterz Littlefield and +Gino Barasa that can give me good suggestions on which place I should go to.  The Alamo is tempting because of the significance and seems like it might be a little easier to get in, shoot and go; but sinceI'... more »

I spent the week prepping camera gear and playing around with my new speed light setup, learning how to use it for the photo shoot that I had scheduled Friday night, leading up to racking up a couple thousand race images yesterday.  I even had a plan behind my contribution today.  I was going to be on the road today on my way home and I was going to stop somewhere and send up an "on location" image with my Iphone.  :)

One phone call early Friday morning changed all of that and I ended up having to cancel the photo shoot, I had to cancel my race plans and I had to cancel my "on location" image.   My road trip destination on Friday got changed somewhat dramatically.  I left the house with the photography gear on board.  I had been incontac... more »

Dived off into the "Sort Of Kind Of Wayback" File for this image.   Shot this last October during a photo tour at a place called Autograph Rock, located way out in the western Panhandle of Oklahoma.   I've posted a pic or two from the place before.  The location is on private land, but due to the historical nature of the place, the land owners have worked with the government to set up a program where people can come see the rock.

I'm actually starting to run a little low on material for +Sign Sunday, but the next two weekends are race weekends and with new camera gear and more memory cards, hopefully I'll be burning up the shutter of my camera to get more material.

"Sign, sign, everywhere a sign Blockin' out the scenery, breakin' my mind"

And so it goes with another image containing more signs than should be allowed by law :)  One of my pet peeves in life is the out right visual eye abuse that occurs when a sign shop takes a crap all over a historical downtown district, in this case Dodge City, KS.   The area where men like Wyatt Earp and Bat Masterson cut their teeth as lawmen. 

Unfortunately, Dodge City is not the only place that is home to a downtown district that has stood for almost a century or even more that has become such an eyesore with the signage.  This image doesn't even touch on how gaudy the place is.  I've seen towns that seem to have a handle on how to deal with modern business signs in a historic district and I've seen towns that don't appear to care and Dodge City certainly fits thatbill.... more »

Decided to make it a double header today for +Sign Sunday led by +Janice La Mere Hackney +Gary Posner and +Lori Carey .

When I take off on a road trip, I try to get in a visit to a historical type of establishment along the way.  A lot of times, these visits are spontaneous since I'm unaware of the place.  Other times though, I'll do some prior research and see what's where. 

In prepping for the last race, I was drawing blanks.  I had come across several ideas, but they were too far off to fit in on the limited down time.  One evening while researching some race related information, I came across the George Bush Presidential Library and Musuem in College Station, TX.  Done deal.

It's been a few weeks, such is life.  The camera stayed dormant for most of the winter and to get it out of it's funk, I racked up about 2200 shutter actuations on it's poor soul in a 24 hour period this past weekend.   I might even end up selling a print or two from that. 

I just got done redesigning my website, http://www.blackmesaimgaes.com.  I had wanted it done before the first race, but because there were some issues with the original registar that had the domain, I feel behind the curve and did not have it ready until today for last weekend's race action. 

Since it's been awhile and I can't tell time and a calendar is just an inanimate object that I ignore most days, I'm going to break out a +Sign Sunday post for +Lori Carey +Janice La Mere Hackney and +Gary Posner on this fine Oklahoma Thursday afternoon.

I don't really have much to say about this :)

A few years ago, the major town in the area put up new signs at the major highway entrances to the town.  Almost every time I've driven by one, I always studied the sign to see how I would shoot it.  I finally went out a couple of weeks ago and shot one of the signs from several different perspectives.

So for last week's segment of +Sign Sunday, presented to us by +Lori Carey +Janice La Mere Hackney and +Gary Posner , I presented an image of a memorial plaque that is at my local cemetery.   I should have presented that image today and today's image last week based on the chronological order in which I took the images, but what the hay?

This is the second part that goes along with last week's submission.  I shot this at a place called Autograph Rock, which is in the western Oklahoma Panhandle and actually shot it a few months prior to last week's image.   Autograph Rock is located on private land, but the land owners have worked with the federal government to make this place accessible to the public.

This page is full of stolen images from photographers around the world. This page has been talked about in several different places around the web and as you can see, all the images posted have a watermark put on them suggesting that they belong to the person running the fan page.  Several photographers have been made aware of their images being stolen and appearing on the fan page, but seems like Facebook wants to drag their feet with this issue.

 With the strong photography community here on Google Plus, maybe pressure can be brought down to have the offending page removed.  You will no doubtingly recognize the work of several different photographers on the page, and the offending watermark that has been put on the images.
