Sir Patrick Stewart Embraces Domestic Abuse Victim He Helped Save

The fan, Heather Skye, told her Tumblr followers about the nervous energy she felt before approaching the microphone to thank Sir Patrick for the Amnesty International speech he delivered on the topic of violence against women that helped her come to terms with the sexual abuse in her own life, and finally "start my healing process."

"After seeing Patrick talk so personally about it I finally was able to correctly call it abuse," she writes. "I didn’t feel guilty or disgusting anymore. I finally didn’t feel responsible for the abuse that was put upon me."

Located in the south of Kiev, this place is generally known as Kitaevo monastery or hermitage. The name Kitaevo apparently is derived from the Turkic word China, referring to a wall, a fortification, a fortress, or a siege tower. Apparently it has nothing to do with China, though.

Gads, does Google test their stuff together? Google+ works much better on Safari now than it does on Chrome. It's been doing this since the new G+.

Their Instruments May Be Garbage, but the Music Will Bring Tears to Your Eyes

Close your eyes and listen to Juan Manuel Chavez launch into the Prelude of Bach's Cello Suite No. 1, and you would never guess that, instead of spruce and maple, his instrument is crafted from an old oil can, a beef tenderizing tool, and a discarded pasta making device—all of it scavenged from the landfill that surrounds his home in Paraguay.

Chavez is a cellist in the Landfill Harmonic Orchestra in Cateura, an Asunción slum where bottle caps, door keys, and paint cans have been given new purpose. Under the supervision of local musician Favio Chávez, these utterly impoverished kids make beautiful music on instruments constructed almost entirely out of materials reclaimed from the dump.

The Human Side of Russian Dashboard Cameras

Many Russian cars are outfitted with dashboard cameras to protect drivers against insurance fraud. These cameras have caught all sorts of crazy happenings -- car accidents, low-flying jets, insurance scam attempts, meteors, and plane crashes -- leading many to believe that Russia is a place where crazy shit pretty much happens constantly.

But Russia's dash cams have also captured many more tender moments -- people hopping out of their cars to help old ladies across the street, looking after little kids who wandered into the street, pushing cars out of snowbanks, etc.
