Another shot from the old Linda Vista hospital shot yesterday.. it's a little over the top, but then again whoever decided on that color yellow for it was a little over the top to begin with! #lindavista +Photo Nights LA

Got a ton of shots I have to go through, but figured I'd post at least one from today's Google+ PhotoWalk at the old Linda Vista hospital. Had a great time wondering all over the place.... This is part of the psychiatric ward area... #LindaVista +Photo Nights LA

Came across this by accident during a drive - I spotted it out of the corner of my eye. It was down at the bottom of a steep canyon, but I found a trail that went down to it. Only problem was I was not dressed for it, and it was in the mid-90's temp wise, and a bit humid... But by chance I had my camera with me so I hiked down there anyways. By the time I got there I wanted to jump into the pool below... even more so after the hike back up! I'm going to have to go back to that area in the spring or fall when the temps are better, looks like lots of potential..

Well, if you already have too much lens flare, whats wrong with too much color.. too much glare.. too much sharpening.. too much, yeah.. but it all still seems to work in an odd way. From the +Los Angeles Photography #artdecowalk

It's not Art Deco, but there is a tiny bit of it reflected... so does that count?.. Taken on the +Los Angeles Photography #artdecowalk this Saturday.

Just something I came up with after today's Art Deco tour of downtown Los Angeles organized by +Kathryn Brown +Lorne Thomas Leufvén +Rob Lopes and the Los Angeles Conservancy. Still have lots to play with.. But figured I had to post up at least one tonight. Had a great time with everyone, and look forward to the next one.

This one sums up a few things I enjoy all in one photo.. Exploring the solitude of the remote area in my 4x4 and the rough dirt road... The promise of the approaching hills and what I may find.. and the thrill of the impending storm.

First one processed in CS6. Who doesn't like a rainbow? Something about this one kept drawing me back to it (other than the rainbow) I think I just like the combination with the yellow street stripe. This one was actually taken with my Canon S95 and not the 5DII....shhhh don't tell anyone! 8-)

There is never enough time to process photos...this one is from back in March... Eureka sand dunes in Death Valley National Park. And I really don't like the black bar thing that Google+ does with vertical shots... ah well.

2,000 Kick Ass Photographers on Google+
Part 2 of 4 (Ev-La)
Part 1 of 4 (A-Ev) here: http://goo.gl/Z333g
This is the fourth time since joining G+ almost a year ago that I'm sharing my photographers circle. I shared it with 500 photographers, 1,000 photographers, 1,500 photographers and now 2,000 photographers. I have to break my circle up into four 500 photographer circles as that is the G+ limit. Each day this week (Mon.- Thurs.) I'll share a different circle. Today is the second circle and includes photographers with the last name's Ev-La.
A few notes about these circles. I always get hated on when I share them by people. Inevitably if I include 2,000 people, I will leave 50,000 people out. This is not intentional or personal. This circle is not "the best" photographers on G+ or in the world. It doesn't mean if you are... more »

Sorry I have not posted in awhile.. lots of other issues going on the last few months. But I did get out this last weekend on a short trip to Saline Valley in Death Valley National Park. On the way out the North pass through the Inyo mountains we were treated to the sight of the recent winter storm clearing the eastern Sierra Nevada mountains...

Legend has it that this is the truck Tex Watson used to escape from Barker Ranch a few days before authorities caught up with Charles Manson. (one of two Power Wagons used by the Manson Clan) It only made it as far as the town of Ballarat (mostly a ghost town) where it broke down and he abandoned it. Tex made it back to Texas before being captured.. and just like Tex Watson in prison, the truck has been sitting there ever since.

The Trona Pinnacles from this last weekend.. not much I could do with the sky, but then the bleakness does kind of fit it. A few hours later what was supposed to be a 3 day trip ended on the first day when a bearing failed in my rear axle, resulting in the differential destroying itself... But at least I got a few photos..

This circle has been validated to the max. If you're in this circle you met all of the requirements and showed a nice selction of images in your stream. I personally checked more than 520 profiles to bring you this circle of hand-picked photographers that deserve more attention. I also had the help of +Margaret Tompkins in assembling the temporary circle for validation and +Manuel Votta for helping me to verify some of the requirements.

Eureka sand dunes and a small rain storm from a trip a few weeks ago. The cool weather made the hike up to the 700+ foot tallest dune a bit easier.

COLBY'S PHOTOGRAPHIC CIRCLE OF INSPIRATION
I have finally put together my 1st circle of photographers that I personally find inspiring. Nearly every genre of photography is represented here. These are individuals that are constantly providing photography work that speaks to me. They are hand picked and all active on G+. It includes full time professionals and amatures alike...all that create compelling photography. Everyone in this circle has less then 30k followers (although a few are very very close) and many have just a few hundred. Please enjoy...I know I have!
If you like what you find in this circle, please share it with your followers to help these individuals reach a wider audience. I will share more circles of those I find Inspiring in the future.

Ok you lazy bums..Public Service Announcement time.. since I just refreshed mine, it's time to insist you prepare for the coming zombie apocalypse. I just refiled and treated my emergency water supply, now I'm good for the next 5 years. Don't be a cheap ass and then be caught with your pants down when the next emergency hits, spend a mere tad and sit comfortable sipping cool aid while your neighbors slay each other for a drop of water while the city burns around them. I keep mine in a metal outdoor shed, well away from just about anything that burn or can fall on it.. (not to mention the metal may help in case Iran gets a bit feisty and decides to test something in our area). And if you are thinking of coming to get mine, I better know you ( and really like you) other wise I've got other prepared measures to deal with you lazy scum! 8-) So get off you ass and get prepared. Refill and treat... more »

This is a strange one.. it's a 3 shot HDR taken out at the Trona Pinnacles. The dirt is a bland grey in this area, and as a result picked up the blue from the dusk. At first I thought I did something wrong with my processing, but no matter how I processed it, it would be blue. If I corrected the white ballance for the blue, then the sky was all wacky. So blue it is.. and in the end worked out kind of well, adding to the already alien look that the Trona Pinnacles has.

Been busy with work and the holidays, but I thought I'd sneak one in.. found this one going through the archives and thought I'd see what I could do with it.. now normally you'd want rainbows in color, but I wanted to see what I could do with them in black and white...

Well, had some time while migrating in the background my MP3 files from the Amazon cloud to Google's Music Cloud (Google's player on Android is 1000 times better and slicker than Amazons, not to mention the Google Music uploader is way better than the primitive Amazon bloatware one.. Google just gets it while Amazon is clueless... but that's another story) so I'm catching up on some processing..
This is a texture detail from the stairwell at Pasadena City Hall, taken during the Google+ Photowalk a few weeks ago..

Sunrise - Saline Valley, California.
Grabbed this shot one early morning after a small storm had passed through the night before. I was actually originally hoping for clearer sky's because I knew it was going to be almost a full moon setting around sunrise. I did manage to get the moon to peak through for an instant when I took this wide angle shot, but by the time I changed lenses to get the original shot I was hoping for it went and hid, and I did not see it pop clear again before it fully set behind the mountains. You can also just make out my "assistant" for that morning in the distance, while I was setting up he kept nudging me from behind trying to get me to feed him. I have to say even though friendly.. he was a real ass about it... 8-)
This is one of the many rock drawings built over the years near the hot springs. A larger version is on my website, you can better see my... more »

Sneaking in another one for #TreeTuesday, curated by +Christina Lawrie +Tree Tuesday
I kept driving by this tree, just at the edge of Bishop, California in mid-November while I was hunting fall color around the area, and it kept amazing me with it's color - however most of the day the light was wrong. On my final way out of town for the day the light was just about about right.. I wanted to stay longer and wait for a bit more warmer sunset light but had to get back to L.A., so I grabbed this one.

Ok, I can be a Tourist.. I admit it.. If you get a chance, check out the view from the new Hover Dam bypass bridge - officialy now known as the Mike O’Callaghan – Pat Tillman Memorial Bridge. It's just amazing.. you can walk out on it and look right over the edge of the railing.. all the way down.
3 shot HDR @12mm on a full frame... and I have to admit a bit of a dirty secret - I removed the shadow of the bridge.

Ok, so does this count as "Winter Wonderland" for #PasadenaPhotowalk +Los Angeles Photography ? Just how far can we push that creative part? At least no photographers were run down for it, despite everybody wearing black in the middle of the street at night..8-)
