GM Kernspecht on why we become stiff in Wing Tsun:
- If you pause after the last movement and “pose“, you stiffen up. There is a motto in WT: “Never pose during a Bong-Sao“. But should the same not apply to every movement?
- If you start to think (Why did he manage to hit me? Why doesn’t that work? What technique/combination shall I use now?), you stop and become stiff.

- If you use combinations learned by heart and they fail to work, you are shocked, stop and become stiff.
- If you exert yourself and grab the opponent, you stop and become stiff.
- If you think before “performing“ a technique, you stop and become stiff. The movements in WingTsun are ... more »

3d, motion-captured interactive app from a friend of mine. Starts with Yoga, Escrima and Wing Tsun kung fu, and eventually will expand into apps by masters of all kinds of motion arts. Awesome stuff, check it out and support if you can.

An editorial by GM Kernspecht (Leung Ting) on Chi Sao training
Aggression, strength and speed have no place in sensitivity training
It is never enjoyable to be hit by someone, and some feel frustrated or even humiliated. But being hit by virtue of the WingTsun principles is a quite different matter. Because you have practically hit yourself, like treading on a rake and the handle comes up to hit you. We know that the rake has no will of its own, and no intentions, and it was not the rake’s ego that wanted to injure us, therefore the ego of the person hit is not, or should not be, involved either.
Blocking the other person’s movement prevents the learning effect
At least for those who seek salvation in blocking. Everything the other person does should be welcomed, and not prevented. I remember an occasion in 1977 very well, when I was practicing ChiSao with my SiF... more »

Rebol is now open sourced - the HN post didn't get to front page... has anyone worked with it? What's it like?

The Wing Chun subreddit has probably the nicest, most civil martial arts community I've ever seen online.

Probably the only zero-byte program ever written.

Shazam-like app for your phone, except instead of identifying songs, it identifies political ads and shows who paid for them. Very neat!
