Another for the series.
Meet Idalina. She is 90 years old! I watched from a distance the decisions she had to make opting between carrying a huge pumpkin or a box. (I'll update the photos later) She went from picking it to carefully dropping it on the ground. She chose the box, so she started rolling the pumpkin through the field by gently kicking it. So funny! I had the most delicious conversation with her. Sweet sweet lady, however sanitarily careless.

Lunch break, today.
Coffee, sand and forever the ocean. There was a pigeon waiting, expecting crumbs from me (you can see it blurred behind the ashtray) and in the distance one seagull showed me how clever she was. Trying to break a clam, she flew to about 20 meters straight up, dropped it and repeated the action about 5 or 6 times. 

I was there for 45 minutes. The esplanade was deserted, except for 3 drunk Frenchmen on my right who were so fucked drunk that, in their 40s, were competing to see how farther their spit would go with the wind. I laughed. When one of them went inside to pay, another removed all his cigarettes from the pack and filled it with sand. Pack in pocket, they left, 2 laughing hysterically, the other suspiciously asking "what? why are you laughing?".
It was just me and the pigeon again. So I asked the bird "So, how are YOU doing?"

I just couldn't believe how incredible irresistible this Meerkat was. Smaller than what I expected, these little animals have the cutest body language and presence. Somewhat goofy, they kept my attention for quite a while.

Meet Emília. I was sitting in a street café, enjoying the sun with my girlfriend and my sons, when this woman approached us and asked for money. I said I wouldn’t give her any money but I would offer her a meal. As I walked her to the counter and we were waiting for the food, I asked her about her story. She said her name was Emília, that she was 54 (incredible) and her sons had kicked her out of her home because she is HIV positive. That she was from Guimarães, but she has lived in Oporto for many years. When I suggested an institution that could take her in and provide medical care, she replied “I don’t want to go to an institution!”

The Dying Ways - dementia
Another for the series.

A few words for context:
Location: in one of the remotest villages in Portugal, so remote I have to go through Spain to get there. I will not say where.
The subject: about 7 decades ago this woman caught meningitis and her family thought she was mad, so she was thrown into a barn (like the ones you keep animals in). She survived the meningitis but developed insanity, she is demented. She has her own world.
Processing: custom preset in Silver Efex Pro II to emulate the film look I love but in which I stink at using.
Disrespect her and I will not take it personally, but I will hide the comment

Anticipation of me
Now that I've recovered my hard drive, I'm able to spam you again with older photos. Why? Because I can.
This is my oldest son, 4 years ago, when I started into photography. Enjoying the ocean all by himself as I often do.

This is a panorama of 9 horizontal photos, all handheld, shot in CR2. 900MB file. When I shoot a panorama, I usually shoot at the smallest size, because the final photo will be huge as it is. On this one I forgot to change it.
Panorama to avoid using the Sigma 10-20mm. Shot at 17mm.

Never mind the plastic look, this is not HDR nor has anything to do with exposure blending... His fake leather jacket provides this effect on the overall image, at least to me.
