Model, Dodger of Sparks: +Shantia Veney
Just outside the right edge of the frame (and not too far away from Shantia) is a man operating a plasma welding torch. He was wearing a welding mask, which meant he could not see Shantia while he was sending a zillion sparks her way. When we were ready to shoot, he had to aim it in the right direction (just behind her), flip the mask down, fire-up the torch...and do his best not to change the angle of his aim.
You can see just how close the sparks landed from her, if you look at the floor under her feet. Add that, plus her hair, and the more-than-flammable poofy skirt, and you have yourself an ignite-ably-good time.
Scary, but worth-it
The woman is certainly no sissy :)

Some pain is the good kind :)
Noska at South Side Tattoo, Austin, TX working on my sleeve earlier tonight. This was visit number 11 (I think). It is an honour to bear this man's art on my arm...he is absolutely amazing.
On a side-note, note the juxtaposition of this painful right-of-passage experience, against the somehow comical sheep pillowcase. I think a dozen jokes were told about this, tonight :)

As a photographer, my personal aesthetic gravitates towards other photographers that have a uniquely identifiable look to their work. I love when just a thumbnail glance tells me whose work I am looking at. Uniquity is something that is not at all easy to achieve, and those that have attained it certainly earn my respect.
As a musician, the same applies. The guitarists I admire can play a single note, and sound like no other (Paco De Lucia, Eric Johnson, and Pat Metheney come to mind). The piano playing of Lyle Mays or Chick Corea fit this mold. Put a bowed string instrument in the hands of Renaud Garcia Fons, and prepare to be impacted for life. But there isn't much that moves me more than an unforgettable (and unmistakable) voice. My personal list of wonderfully-unique voices includes Emma Härdelin, Matt Duke, Angela McCluskey, and the reason for my writing this today: Coury Palermo.
