This is a street scene here in Vancouver (Canada). Camera is Lumix LX5 at 5.1 mm (24 mm equivalent), ISO 200, f/5.6, 1 second (no tripod, but pushed camera against a post to steady it). I'm so glad to learn of this community - night photography is one of my favourite things.

Mac users, what email programs do you prefer? I have used Apple Mail for a number of years, and found it to be just fine on my old computer (MacBookPro) but ever since I switched to the iMac a few months ago, it has been terrible. Much of my mail failed to transfer to the new computer, and now new mail is coming in only sporadically. The search function is useless and retrieves nothing at all. (Most of my mail is in several different Gmail accounts so I can go online and find it, but it's a pain to search all these separate accounts.) I've spent days researching the topic and trying various troubleshooting options, and now I am FED UP! I would love to hear about other programs that you like.

The herons in Stanley Park here in Vancouver are wonderful. Not my usual area of photography, but I couldn't resist this beautiful subject. I just used a little point and shoot as I don't currently own any long lenses.

Here's my submission for the #PlusOneCollection2012 . I took this 7 August 2012, looking out a second storey window onto the road below where cyclists were passing. I was trying to capture combinations of motion - in this case I was panning vertically as the cyclists entered the frame at a diagonal. It was handheld at 1/6 second on my Lumix LX5. I was using a neutral density filter in order to slow my shutter speed in bright daylight, but I don't remember how many stops difference I used.

I think I'm fond of this photo because it was the result of that complete absorption in the creative process that can happen when you're really excited about trying to make an image.

Alright, let's do this thing! The publication of Plus One Collection 2012 is officially under way. Read on for details, watch the video, re-share it, and get on the train before it's too late. 

Who can contribute a photograph for the book? 

Anyone. Send us your best image you took in 2012 and it'll get published in one or in all forms - in print, in ebook, and in our online gallery.

I have been away from Google+ for a few months, but hope to have a little more time for it now. Sometimes life gets complicated and difficult. This graffiti that my friend and I spotted on a rainy afternoon walk gives a good reminder at such times.

Does anyone know how to keep Google+ events (to which I've RSVP'd "yes") from appearing on my Google calendar? While it seems like a great idea to use event pages to organize online events like photo sharing projects and celebrations, I'm finding it is a poor use of the limited calendar space. It distracts from my daily work and personal schedule. If I reply that I'm "attending" (participating) then the event appears on my calendar. But if I remove the event from the calendar, I am shown as no longer participating in the event. I want to be able to RSVP "yes" to show my support and participation, but not have this show as an item on my calendar. Any solutions that you can suggest?

A photo I posted recently has been flagged and is no longer visible here. It is a picture of mannequins in a department store. They are (SHOCKINGLY) not wearing clothing. Naked plastic figures .... egad! How horrifying. 

Ever since joining Google+, I have stayed within the rules here and refrained from posting nude content. I have artwork which I don't share here because I joined under those terms and I'm fine with respecting them. But flagging a picture of mannequins is absolutely ridiculous, and I don't have much patience for this sort of thing. 

While I'm on the topic, I'll just mention that it offends me that photos showing women's chests are routinely flagged and removed, while photos showing men's chests are permitted. This double standard is ludicrous and should be changed.
