Had a crack at a local paper's photo competition which I knew I wouldn't have a chance at (but you've got to have a go, right? :))  There were three briefs which were (1) the hidden community, (2) your or someone else's passion; and (3) your inspiration.

(1) is my son's footy teams weekly wrap up where the kids get to stand on the chair and address the fans about how they think the game went, (2) is a pic of members of my local 501st who appear perfectly normal and yet have a passion for costuming and charity, and (3) is my nephew Jacob who inspires me every day because, on paper, he shouldn't even be alive.

Subject matter was easy and even though I know I have a long way to go, I "think" I'm on the right track with regards to what I want my photos to look like.  I'm happy with them and I hope you like them.

Grabbed some buddies and went snapping at sunrise yesterday.
It was pretty fresh to say the least however we still had smiles on our faces, and overall I'm pretty happy with my pics and extremely happy with the bacon & eggs afterwards :)

I may have mentioned some time ago that I've decided to hang caution to the wind and start to things that make me feel good and are rewarding. So I've decided to join the 501st.

My costuming character will be Darth Nihilus. Here's a pic for those playing along at home:

A buddy of mine in the US recommended hanging out with the local garrison in Sydney to practice my photography and after being warmly welcomed and watching what they do, especially with regards to kids charities, I was immediately hooked. My friends look at me a little bit strange when they realise I'm serious but when I explain what it is the 501st actually do, they come around and think it's actually kinda cool.

I was extremely fortunate to be recently invited to photograph the final "trooping in" of Jacob French, that crazy stormtrooper who walked from Perth to Sydney (Australia) to raise funds for Starlight Foundation. He raised over $100,000 - and he's a bit of a legend ;)
