Just in case you were wondering
Google seems to have decided not to use a rel=”contributor-to” link attribute value when only some content on a site was from a specific author, and a rel=”me” when all of the content on a site was from the same author. Thanks +Doc Sheldon for pointing that out...

It fascinates me that given current neuro-scientific knowledge, that the above quote was written in 1886 by Auguste Villiers de l'Isle-Adam in Tomorrow's Eve.  More so given findings that damage to the brain's ventromedial prefrontal cortex not only affects emotions, but can eliminate some of them completely. 

If a tiny brain incision could eliminate emotional pain, the question is, would you want to?

Indeed, he said, some of the company’s most powerful executives were aware that illegal pharmacies were advertising on its site. “We simply know from the documents we reviewed and witnesses we interviewed that Larry Page knew what was going on,” Neronha said. No matter how you do it, you need the ability to track all lead types back to the campaign. If you are running a series of display banner ads, for example, that drive people to register for a white paper online, tracking downloads only gives you part of the picture. To measure ROI accurately, you also need to track how many leads picked up the phone and called you after clicking on your banner.

Sorry, all very common advice, but the funny thing is — very few people follow it. It was not all new stuff, far from it, but I shared some of my own thoughts and by being open I met some friendly people. I met some trolls, too.

Google and Open Learning Extraction

When Google acquired Wavii, they didn't acquire a news summarizer and aggregation widget - the acquired a different way to crawl the web, and understand relationships between objects, to strengthen Google's about to answer questions.

The Wavii team has joined Google's knowledge base team, according to reports of the acquisition. The biggest impact will probably be on improving Google's knowledge base and Google Now.

I no longer believe it makes sense for any company to roll out an international SEO programme to multiple countries without also having a PPC campaign in place.  In some cases, we would recommend leading with PPC and landing pages first, rather than full blown (and relatively expensive) international SEO.

My wife and I arose early on this Monday-morning public holiday to head down to the penultimate day of the Rip Curl Pro surfing competition at Bells Beach. With yet another day of pumping swell, we watched impressive surfing and some major upsets in Round 3 of the men's heats, followed by the women's final. Great weather and big crowds made this three years in a row that the event has been held in perfect conditions.

This image of Carissa Moore on her major event-winning wave (9.57/10) was taken with the trusty Canon SX50. Who said it couldn't be used for action sports? I wouldn't trust it for crucial, "must get" shots, but the hit-rate is high enough to get some pretty nice pictures during a well-lit event like surfing. Obviously knowing the language is very important. Even if the language is the same as your own, there can be variations that you need to grasp, or they can hold you back. An American in Australia or the UK, for instance, will find enough colloquialisms to make life on the street interesting… without a grasp of those differences, though, business success may be very challenging.
