Everyone who follows Buck Shreck and likes his photography Bucks Wildlife Photography. I wanted to let you all know, Buck will not be posting for awhile, we are not sure how long exactly. He is in the hospital and will be having a quintuple bi-pass on Monday. We could use all of the positive thoughts and prayers you will share. The prognosis is good and the Dr. thinks he will be good as new. Personally, I know how tough Buck is and believe he will come through with flying colors. Please be patient and he'll be back in the field and sharing great images as soon as he can.
Thanks for all of your support.

Buck and I were in Yellowstone this last weekend and he took the high ground in photographing this elk. Now I could have gone with him as that was a prime angle but I didn't want to get the same images.  No sense in both of us shooting shoulder to shoulder.  I wanted something different so I stayed further down the hill. I wanted to really pay attention to my composition and so I didn't take as many images as usual but I tried to get the best possible images.  By actually backing up and carefully lining my elk up with this tree and the snow in the foreground, I was quite pleased with this "InLine" effect.  Hope you like it as well.

Lone Coyote Feeding

Went to Yellowstone Park this weekend and found this lone coyote feeding on this dead buffalo carcass. Stay there, with the hopes that either another coyote would show up or even better a wolf would show up…….. But as it turned out…… nothing showed up……… It was nice to get out and see something new beside 4 walls.

Need your thoughts and prayers.  Many of you know our Abby.  She is in the Hospital tonight.  We took her in yesterday for stomach trouble and have found out that either she has cancer or she ate something outside that caused some serious issues with her pancreas.  She is in stable condition  but we won't know anything for sure until thursday.  Please keep her in your prayers & everyone have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

We went through the Badlands in South Dakota. I highly recommend the area. The views were great, the wildlife was great and I don't have a single bad word to say about our experience there. I look forward to going back.  The Buffalo or Bison are plentiful and in some different settings.

When we moved from Tennessee to Montana, we got to enjoy a great road trip in the process.   We have not gotten settled as soon as I expected and I have a lot of images that I still have to go through.   I am working my way through them a few at a time.  I hope you enjoy them.  We went through the Badlands in South Dakota.  I highly recommend the area.  The views were great, the wildlife was great and I don't have a single bad word to say about our experience there.  I look forward to going back. Light is so important to photographers, we are constantly looking for the "sweet" light.  We have to make sure we have enough light and not too much light.  Bad light can ruin a shot and there are many known things that you can and can't   do depending on the light.  Mostly, I pay attention to those do's and don'ts because they are there for a reason and crummy shots will teach you the reasons in a hurry.  There is however some rare occasions when you can break with conventional wisdom and it pays off.  I take my camera with me to work every day because I often run into wildlife on the way in or on the way home.  This particular day, I was late coming home because of some errands and sure enough, Murphy's Law, there stands this nice big Antelope Buck, right  off of the road just staring at me.  Without thinking, I hit the brakes while I roll down the passenger window andthen gra... more »

Wondering Around

I caught this grizzly just outside Yellowstone Park, wondering around, doing what bears do. I just had to photograph this bear also because of the color of his coat…… very grizzly like look to it. Shot this image with my Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III and my Canon 400mm f/2.8 lens at a distance of about 50 yards, more or less.

I have to Apologize to everyone for not posting anything for the last few days, but there has been a couple of things that has happened that has changed my 3 month road trip. First when I arrived in Alaska to the Russian river, the salmon were late for me to get any kind of a verity of bear images, and in the end there was only the sow and cub and the young adolescent bear. Then there was an event that happened that just made me sick ..... that was that there was some jerk that killed 7 bears along the Russian in 3 weeks. The sow and cub was included in the killing.

Then my wife called me, telling me that she got a terrific job offer in Montana. So now I had to leave Alaska and drive down to Montana, where I am currently, awaiting a flight back to Tennessee, where I will move me and my family to Montana. Yes the trip was cut short, but here are a few images when I got into Jasper and Banff... more »

Well, I never thought I would bother to photograph a vulture...wrong again. This guy was off of the road where I take Abby out walking. He was totally unconcerned with me and let me walk up to with in a few feet of him. Actually kind of a pretty bird. I talked to him and he posed for me, I think we were both happy with the set up.

On the 4th day was the day I found my bear and her cub. I looked for 3 days and nights, looked high and low, but I guess I wasn't looking high enough. There they were trying to get out of this Alaska heat that has been pounding us for a record heat stroke. But I found them resting in a tree that was hanging over the Russian River. Hope to have more for you in the next posting in the following days to come.

The Supervisor.
Isn't that the way, try to get your job done and someone will stand on the sidelines and supervise.   The cubs were certainly learning a lot from this sow.  She is a great mother and was a pleasure to watch.  Again from the Russian River in Alaska.  One of my favorite places for bear watching.

Bear's In Anchorage

Bears of all kinds have been an interest of mine for as long as I can remember, and I think I have one of the largest privately owned collection of images of bears that I know of (150,000). I go over and over my collection of images to see what I have that I can show to everyone. So here's one that I came up with.

This image is from the Ship Creek area of Anchorage. There is a very large thriving population of Brown bears that live among the human population right in Anchorage city limits, so I don't have to go far to find these bears when I'm in Alaska.
