Jeff Smith62,161Welcome to The Selfie Sunday Project for April 5, 2015 We are back! First thing you may notice is "Selfy" has become "Selfie", just a change to keep up with the more recognized spelling of selfie. A general theme for this week is *New Beginnings* , it's Spring and Selfie Sunday has returned so it seems to fit. If you can't stick to the theme no worries either, since we are freshly back and running any selfie you take is fine.  Please read this post for the guidelines and FAQ for Selfie Sunday. http://goo.gl/SKnkZ8 Your photo can be taken from Mar. 30/15 before the event up until 8:00 AM EDT Monday Apr. 6/15. Older photos posted will be removed from the event. Please only post one photo to the event and that photo should ideally be taken the weekend or the week prior to the event. Again, please no dipping into the archives. As always have some fun. Everyone is looking forward to some great selfies. Any questions, We have many moderators in the Art of Self Portraiture Community who can help you along the way. _ UPLOADING The event will be open for uploading photos at 9:00 PM on the Saturday before. Lady Fran W8,266It's the start of the year.  There are new people joining the MPW community every day.  There are members itching to get out and do something.  There has been a rotation of mods. It's White Night and we're all going to need a drink before embarking on chaos and mayhem.   Sooooo ... *let's get together, shake hands, have a drink and talk about the year ahead.* _Venue confirmed:_ Dumpling World 608 Collins Street Melbourne -Call for venue ideas:- -Venue to be confirmed but if you have any ideas then post away. Y&Js and Fed Square venues are convenient but being White Night these will probably be bursting at the seams and potentially hard for a group. Do you know of somewhere else in the CBD that may be a good spot to descend on? Suggestions welcomed.-  _White Night:_ There is no formal photowalk planned for WN as the environment is not conducive for large groups; however, if you wish to use this event as a meet up or tag along with others please feel free to do so.  _All welcome!_ Feel free to invite anyone who you think  may enjoy the fun.MPW 2015 hidey-ho there neighbour2015-02-21 19:30:0010
Paul Pavlinovich22,179See @109173756154545584645 for all the information you need. No formal photowalk as it's too hard to keep a group together. it's really worth your time coming in to the city. My plan is to do Princes Bridge for sunset then lay low until midnight when I'll start to cruise. This plan may change as WN is covering a bigger area this year.White Night Melbourne2015-02-21 19:00:0041
Paul Pavlinovich22,179A disposable snap camera view of Australia Day in Melbourne. You're welcome to bring your digital or film camera along with your disposable snap camera for this photowalk day. Charles Strebor (Rantz)23,477I'll be celebrating my 50th trip around Sol in January 2015 and I would very much enjoy your company. We'll be starting at 4ish in the afternoon and going on late into the evening with fire spinning and other light play once the darkness arrives. Please bring yourselves, your cameras, a favourite dish that you'd like to share with others, your favourite drinks and any spinning toys you may have.  And orbs.  Don't forget your orbs. We'll be gathering where Warragul Road and Beach Road meet, down on the beach around the shelter near  the pier and groyne. With many thanks to @111907656136306657088 for the banner for this event - I'm sure you'll recognise the fire spinner from our #BrunswalkWithFire  from 2013. The Rantz and the Mario will be doing special fire play - just because we can. More details as they happen to be known. PS - There are *_THREE_* pubs nearby.A Celebration of the end of the 50th trip around Sol2015-01-17 16:00:0034

Paul Pavlinovich22,179Now that summer is nearly here I think it's time to return to St Kilda for a summer meander. Have some munchies before the walk. We'll have the usual wander and click but if anyone wants to wander with me I'm happy to explain what I'm doing and why. If the light and sea are favourable I'll be using black glass for long exposures near the pier. I may use it again at Luna Park to make people "go away" for the facade shot. Depends how much light there is. features will include - beach front walk - sunset by the pier - a visit to the penguins at the end of the pier - Luna Park after dark - The espy facade and the two esplanades https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=z58dq65KDHgk.ka252xbBiZq4 Event updated with the meeting place (St Kilda Marina) and a link to the walk map.summer evening photo walk2014-12-05 19:00:0023

Paul Pavlinovich22,179You may shoot 36 compositions on this photowalk. you may shoot film or digital it's up to you but only 36. Can you do it? Shooting only 36 will make you really look, evaluate, think "do I really need this shot?". It will make you more deliberate. It will make you hunt for the best light and the best subject matter. You'll find it hard. You'll find it frustrating. You'll find it rewarding. You may post process via traditional or digital darkroom if you choose. If you're shooting HDR you may bracket but you must only end up with 36 images after post. I'll lead a walk around Melbourne (botanic gardens, observatory, the shrine, arts centre, ending for munchies and drinks on Southbank). If you can't walk with us, please shoot the 36 anywhere you want and share the 36 to this event. Worldwide. Go for it. The 36 photowalk - where will you shoot yours?2014-08-31 14:00:0053

Paul Pavlinovich22,179Join us for a walk around Fitzroy from the mid afternoon culminating in the projection festival in Gertrude Street. in the evening.  Meet up at Melbourne Museum west end (opposite Pelham St on Rathdowne St). Carparking in the museum is flat rate $16 or you can take your chances on the street. Given the festival is on I'd expect the inspectors to be out in force. The area is known for its diverse population and wonderful foods. The festival is like the little brother of Vivid and White Night.  Walk Map (in two parts) https://mapsengine.google.com/map/edit?mid=z58dq65KDHgk.kNkrZLeCGkyY This is the map for the two part walk around Melbourne Museum, Fitzroy for Graffiti and street photography before there is a dinner break and the Gertrude Street festival. No need to carry your tripod for the first part of the walk. Leave it in the carpark (hidden of course). Get it out for part two if you want it. Fire spinning will be back at the museum or exhibition buildings after part two if it's not ridiculously late by then. While we'll be crossing a meal time there will NOT be an organised meal, we'll break from the walk at 6pm at the end of part one and restart at 7pm for the festival to give people a chance to grab food wherever they want.Flick's Walk - Gertrude Street Projection Festival Photowalk2014-07-19 14:30:0022
Sean Clark860A photowalk that (roughly) follows the path of last year's Maribyrnong walk and (less-roughly) stops at some of the sights of the soon-to-be-complete Regional Rail Link - City to Maribyrnong River Project. *the route* A rough route is here. Happy to take suggestions and make changes: http://goo.gl/ycHjMI Meet at Footscray Station, finishing at -the- -pub- South Kensington Station. It's a bit of a hike (~3km on foot), and covers about 1/2 of the project, but there are some highlights that have been built by RRL-CMR including: - The new Maribyrnong River rail bridge - built to complement the heritage bridge that it sits beside - Street art by Makatron at South Kensington Station There are also a few sights from the project's neighours: - The new Footscray Station (built by the adjoining project RRL-FDP) - The temple of the Heavenly Queen - South Kensington Skate Park - Lots (and lots) of +Cableicous action throughout the South Kensington area - Oh, and the fish-and-chip place at Conway - Must. Stop. There.Maribyrnong Photowalk2014-07-12 10:00:0010
Paul Pavlinovich22,179Ok, even though we're not Americans we've got fireworks on July 4th this year too so why not get out and celebrate with a photowalk? I've moved this to under the Bolte Bridge for something different. There is usually parking up this end of Docklands Drive. We'll shoot either from under the bridge or more likely from the wasteland where the circus tent used to be. We'll be very close to the fireworks so wide angle would be useful but not essential. We should be able to get fireworks and bridge and if we're lucky fireworks and city. After the fireworks we'll make our way towards the death star for some night shots. Docklands walk and Fireworks2014-07-04 10:00:005
Paul Pavlinovich22,179We'll be walking from the Maribyrnong River to the Yarra River following as closely as possible the old goods railway line as it originally existed to move goods from one part of the port to another for distribution around Melbourne. Where there are available high points we'll take them to see the lights of the Port of Melbourne, The City on the skyline, and of course The Death Star. It's roughly a 6.5km walk plus detours. The faint of heart can shorted in by diverting onto the Capital City Trail after we cross Railway Canal. We'll meet at The Reverence Hotel in Footscray from 5pm and start the walk at dusk as the lights come up nicely for photography probably around 6.15pm. We'll finish at the pizza shop at the end of Webb Bridge where you can get take away for about $10 or eat and drink within if your pockets are deep. Everyone welcome. Paul Pavlinovich22,179A graffiti walk around Richmond starting at dimmeys (what's left of it) and a few other spots. We'll also drift over to the MCG for the open day. I was planning on this walk in December for the #melbourneunearthed December theme but since +100735499501780766533 is coming to town we'll run it early. I'll announce the theme later as I don't want to overload people. You Little Ripper Linda - Richmond Photo Walk2013-11-17 13:00:0021
Paul Pavlinovich22,179We'll start at Richmond Railway Station and walk down to the river along Cremorne St photographing the new graffiti on the old silos - there might even be a chance of an urbex of the abandoned site for those who dare then along the river on the North bike path taking an easy pace photographing whatever comes to fancy with opportunities for AAMI stadium (the giant soccer ball). Several options from Birurung Marr either along the river and up the street or through the bells on the elevated walkway both ending up at Fed Sq. We'll watch the race (and photograph the people watching the race naturally) at 3pm on the big screen at Fed Sq. The final stage will be around Flinders St station a touch a street with the race goers heading home. We'll probably grab some nosh afterwards. The route map for this photowalk is published and is found here: https://mapsengine.google.com/map/edit?mid=z58dq65KDHgk.klc93QZqfSMA For those of you who are taking part in #melbourneunearthed  this walk fits in well with the November theme of "Spring Carnival".Melbourne Cup Day Photowalk2013-11-05 13:00:0023

From Jeff's Shed we'll wander down to Webb Bridge on the South Side for some bridge and marina evening and night shots then make our way back along Southbank towards Swanston Street. After dinner we'll complete our waterfront stroll along towards Flinders & Swanston where we'll head up around Hamer Hall and The Arts Centre down to NGV where we might play with the windows if they're still on when we get there then we'll finish up for the evening. Tripods are recommended for the fire play shooting as long exposure shots of 3 to 10 seconds are best for shooting this activity.  Recommendations for other camera settings will be offered at the time for those interested. http://goo.gl/tncmC  Brunswalk with Fire2013-04-27 16:00:0021

Paul Pavlinovich22,179Join us for another anniversary walk with all the usual and plenty of new faces from the Melbourne Photowalkers community. Walk starts and finishes at Collingwood Station. Food is available at The People's Market (expect to be there around 3pm) and after the official walk end at back near the town hall many of us will continue to the The Retreat Hotel for dinner and  beer. Here is the route https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=212211852192101909727.0004d81878e69719df99d&msa=0&ll=-37.803952,144.990327&spn=0.016598,0.033023 It's not as long as it looks. Note I've changed the times to ensure we can get into The People's Market which is absolutely brilliant. We'll be going past loads of laneways with amazing street art which are not marked on the route (a few are). If you want to make your walk longer feel free to diverge down the laneways. Suggestions: . There is an urbex site - use commonsense and make your own choices . Down the laneways travel in at least pairs - this is a fairly dodgy place sometimes - this means you Margaret Wong!Google Anniversary Photowalk *COLLINGWALK*2013-03-23 03:00:0055
Jeff Smith62,161Welcome to The Selfy Sunday Project for March 10/13. *Theme:* *Film Noir* A hint of mystery and intrigue should creep its way into your selfy this weekend.  Think, moody, dark, dramatic and yes your shot should be in B&W to still be true to the classic style of noir. Paul Pavlinovich22,179*Maribyrnong River Afternoon Photo Walk* *DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS THIS WALK HAS BEEN CHANGED TO AFTERNOON. IF YOU SHOW UP AT DAWN YOU WILL BE LONELY, COLD AND WET* When: Saturday 2nd Feb  Where: https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=212211852192101909727.0004d29a33b5533122c8a&msa=0 Time: Starts 1.00pm at Quarry Park in Footscray  Station Finish 6.00pm near Newport on the river. Dedicated souls might like to continue to Williamstown for Dinner, I will be. This walk is in an industrial and park area along the river. An area in renaissance as it is reborn from Melbourne's industrial and ports to residential and small cottage industries. There are river views, port views, bridges, amazing graffiti. At the beginning we'll be treated to a fantastic sunrise over the city skyline directly along the river from our vantage point in Quarry Park. Quarry Park can be entered from Owens St. Very limited parking at both. Parking at Newport (or Williamstown if you're going to walk that far) then car pooling up to the walk start would be advisable. Things to know: . there are no public dunnies you'd actually want to use . there is nowhere to get water . Since its a long one carpooling and making arrangements to get a some cars to the finish would be a good ideaMaribyrnong Afternoon Photo Walk2013-02-02 03:00:1511

Melbourne Photowalkers1,213*UPDATE* Okaaaaay! I have just made an executive decision. Dictator FMW is stepping up.  I have just wandered through the city. It's hot and steamy and uncomfortable. It's been drizzling steadily all afternoon. According to the BoM tomorrow is expected to be scattered showers and thunderstorms in the morning developing to heavy rainstorms and thunder in the afternoon.  Soooo, I looked for the nearest spot to our originally planned location, and that could seat 16+ people. Leave your picnic rugs and sausages at home I think folks. *NEW VENUE* - Transport in Fed Square. Table booked for midday under my name (Fran W). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- _Venue_ -Alexandra Gardens, by the banks of the Yarra- -See map for more specific location - http://goo.gl/APwsF- *Update - see above* This spot has both public bathrooms and BBQ facilities There are some picnic tables scattered around but limited. Being a popular picnic spot, and just a few weekends before Christmas, this location is likely to be uber popular. In order to stake our claim, it'll be worth having some people turn up early. _Catering_ BYO everything. Aim to please yourselves, but with the idea of being social, sharing/communal/etc.  _Other stuff_  - This is a family affair, bring your partner, spouse, kiddies for a day in the sun. - BYO rugs, tables, chairs, tents, whatever else one requires for the day.  - If you have a photowalk t-shirt, wear it! _Share the event_  As circulation of events is limited, please be sure to pass this on to others who may be interested. +Melbourne Photowalk Family Christmas Picnic2012-12-15 12:00:0021

Lady Fran W8,266*Can you make an ordinary running kitchen tap look fab?* This challenge came about following a conversation in a thread with +Megan Huddle (thanks for the inspiration babe!).  Whilst on a recent trip to New Zealand, I got my very first 'soft milky water' shot of a stream, and purely by luck. I had no ND filter, no tripod, just good light and a little bridge to lean the camera on. See here - http://goo.gl/Vpz58 I'm now obsessed with trying out this kind of photography wherever I go. I'm searching for streams, waterfalls, beaches, you name it. +Megan Huddle suggested I could make anything look good (uber flattered).  .. and so the challenge came about. *A camera, an idea, and a plain old running tap in the kitchen sink.*     _Can you make it look fab?_    I think you can.  *Work your magic. Show us what you’ve got.* *Any camera, and setting, any processing.* *It’s all open to your imagination and creativity.* Sooooo, why not give it a go?  There's no prizes I'm afraid. No rewards. (Unless some super generous sponsor out there wants to throw something in as incentive.) Otherwise, it's all about the *glowing recognition, compliments and praise from your G+ peers.*  _Due date: 11:30pm, -Friday 8 December- Saturday 9 December_  ------------------------------------------------------------------------- PS PUBLIC EVENT! - Apparently one can't invite large numbers of guests to an event (ie big circles), soooo, please feel free to forward this around and get people involved. =)Photo challenge - A simple tap2012-12-08 13:30:0072

Why is it +Adobe Photoshop Lightroom that half the time you miss the ctrl-f keypress to start a library search but you get every other damn keypress in the string that completely reconfigures lightroom instead of putting the characters in my search string. In LR every key does "something" and no-one can hear you scream after it did. Grr. Now I have to go and figureout wtf #collingwalk  did....___

Murray Agricultural Equipment
Back in 2003 I was lucky enough to be able to visit a small Australian manufacturing business that hadn't (and still hasn't) succumbed to competition from cheap labour countries. They still make everything by hand. They still forge everything. Some of their machines are more than 100 years old. They retain people, they train new people. They don't buy new stuff or change processes or finance things because some business advising clown tells them to. They just make and they make well. They are probably one the few small manufactures still running in Australia and could show some of the modern places how to do things. They export to places like China and India. If they can do it anyone can.

Here's something you don't see often, a vertical boiler traction engine. It had a small engine in the front for running a winch and a larger engine that pushed along the back wheels.

Dreamy +Joss Larsen  shot in the harshest industrial graffiti filled environment imaginable shot with minimal depth of field then processed in LR starting with strengthening some of the colours and contrast then finalised by removing some clarity and adding haze with the Dehaze filter used backwards. It ends up with a grand dreamy effect I really like.

This contraption belongs to the blacksmith who lives just up the road form me named Walter. The Ronnie is driving a blower for his forge and a power hammer for shaping the red hot metal. The power hammer is probably the scariest thing I've ever touched. Walter just picks up the frame with the engine and hammer to load it into his ute. He's a big unit.

Announcement of the Mega Prize of the Mega Pack for the Mega Walk.

Join the Melbourne Photowalkers community for more information
https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/105126374019303064464

Megawalk News

MegaPack Prize will be based on a random draw, to be in the running you must
- Be a member of the Melbourne Photowalkers Community
- Register on the Megawalk event
- Identify yourself personally to me on the day to get your draw ticket
- Have answered the "I'm alive poll" pinned in this community
- Posted at least one image from the walk in this community
- Any community member (except me) is eligible including the moderators

To give people some processing time. The prize will be drawn one week after the MegaWalk. When I draw the prize I will check the name against the criteria above, if any are not met, I will draw further ticket(s) until someone gets it. As it stands at the time of posting you have a 1 in 111 chance of winning the prize.

I've made this a random draw because I want everyone to have equal opportunity regardless of photographic abilities or popularity.

Note I had to move the date of the Megawalk as I've been summonsed to appear before HM Governor on the planned day of the walk. Nothing bad :). I arbitrarily moved it a week before.

Thanks to +Trey Ratcliff and his Stuck In Customs business for the awesome prize.___Announcement of the Mega Prize of the Mega Pack for the Mega Walk.

I'd been wondering what google would do with waze since they bought it. The first thing they did was break it totally. It's updated again overnight and now runs again but there's less features (the voices are gone). I got the arnie voice back through an old inbox message I had to install it. The second thing they've done is make waze reported hazards visible in google maps navigation. Will waze go and be totally consumed into google maps? I think that would be a mistake there are millions of waze users that probably don't use google services. I hope google learned from the forced intake of users when they brought in YouTube and leave waze alone not needing a login of any kind. Waze is great google please don't fuck it up.
