On the way to the Drake's Beach photowalk a few months ago, we made the obligatory stop at the grounded Point Reyes in Inverness for some quick pictures and a tasty sandwich from the Inverness Store :)

Has anyone figured out how to add a photo to an album and then share that photo so it links back to the rest of the album like it used to instead of creating a new album with just the one posted picture in it?

The View From Coyote Creek
This past weekend we decided to go backpacking in Henry Coe State Park. 4.3 miles and 1,800 ft later we arrived at a nice camp site next to Coyote Creek. This is only one hour from San Jose, but because you are over a ridge or two, there is no traffic noise and we only saw a few planes, so out of flight paths as well. The park is 140 square miles, so you see more wildlife than people.
After setting up camp and exploring the creek, we came back to make dinner and watch the wildlife moving around. I got the camera set up for star trails and this is the result. The weather was perfect so I was able to watch the stars from tent, no rain fly needed :)

Hot Creek Geological Site
During my ski trip to Mammoth Mountain last week, we made a side trip to Hot Creek Geological Site on the Owens River just East of Mammoth. This a really interesting site, with warm spots in the river. You can see various springs bubbling up of various sizes. People used to swim in the river, which isn't allowed anymore. Apparently the temperature of the springs can change quickly and then you get cooked alive...doesn't sound too fun.
There are a few trails to walk and we saw some folks fishing. We walked back up to the bluff along the river and I snapped this picture looking West into the afternoon Sun and Eastern Sierra. Such a great view from over here.

The last shot from this past weekends photo-venture out to Drake's Beach at Point Reyes. This is a 10 minute exposure, that I finished up after the rest of the group started heading for the parking lot. The last fading colors of the Sun are revealed in a longer exposure.

Eternal
And so it had been for billions of years. The Sun would set. And the Sun would rise. The waves would roll in, thundering against the shore. As the salt laden air brushed against his face and rustled his hair, he thought, how lucky am I to witness even one of these cycles.

Taste The Rainbow
The Rainbow Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus deglupta) has some of the most colorful bark you will find on a tree. Patches of outer bark are shed annually at different times, showing a bright green inner bark. This then darkens and matures to give blue, purple, orange and then maroon tones.

Merced Leaf 2
From this past October in Yosemite. The Merced River was low and there were plenty of colorful leaves scattered around. It was fun walking in the riverbed.
Nature will bear the closest inspection. She invites us to lay our eye level with her smallest leaf, and take an insect view of its plain.

Misplaced
Apparently a piece of farm machinery fell onto the beach at Shark Fin Cove from the fields above. I wonder how long until the sea claims it.

Fitzgerald Dreaming
A few weeks ago a few of us met up here again. For some reason I keep coming back to this place. I think it must be the variety of things to experience in such a small area.
The scientist does not study nature because it is useful; he studies it because he delights in it, and he delights in it because it is beautiful. If nature were not beautiful, it would not be worth knowing, and if nature were not worth knowing, life would not be worth living.

Los Altos Hills Star Trails
My first go at star trails. After taking some test shots, I set the camera to take 30-second exposures until I stopped it. A few hours and a bottle of Merlot later I had 246 images captured. I used the awesome StarStaX software to combine the images into this final image. Not too shabby!

Endeavour
Snuck out of work and went to the nearby landfill hill to catch a glimpse of Endeavour as it flew by Moffett Field. Unfortunately it flew further away than we thought it would, but it was still cool to see in person. I put together a collage of all my pics as it flew by.
