I think it's time to catalogue approaches to the technological unemployment problem ahead:
(1) Guaranteed Basic Income (propronents: German pirate party, etc)
(2) Opting out of capitalism via adoption and promotion of decentralized technologies (proponents: Federico Pistono, open source ecology, etc)
(3) Resource Based Economy (proponents: Jacque Fresco, etc)
(4) Recapturing income from those who profit by automation and then using it to compensate the masses according to some sort of incentive scheme (proponents: Martin Ford)
(5) Traditionalist: encourage better education systems, institute common sense policy fixes, race with machines (proponents: Mcafee, Brynjolfsson, even their mortal enemy Cowen seems to fall in this category of proposing small tweaks to the status quo)
(6) Optimistic Libertarian who says there is no problem, if government just gets out of the ... more »

Why is talk radio and websites apparently required to say in a disclaimer that they are not providing legal, financial, or medical advice, etc.
Are they really required to lie!?
In the same position myself, I would definitely warn people appropriately but why lie and say I'm not really giving you advice if I really am? Does anyone else think that's stupid?

Well, based on this, I still have some path-hunting to do. I'm feeling muddle-headed and exhausted tonight.

The human body is a machine. Our tools are our implements. Our minds are our on-board computer. Our information streams are our software upgrades. The people we communicate with are our compliance inspectors and engineers of life.
Define your parameters of success and hone your heuristics and mental processes and daily routine and share your progress with others.
Don't settle for just using your head. Use your heart. Use your Internet. Use your friends. Use your Tools.
Respect Innovation but also simplicity. An innovation that complicates without any signs of additional growth or evolution may be a devolving change.
Prepare yourself for the life you're looking for and you will naturally shift towards your goals but when you feel ready but you don't know what to do next, compile and compress a simpler system of thinking about and processing what you are... more »

I've been telling everyone how great I think Workflowy is for awhile now. Well now, I'm asking for a little help. If anybody is planning on using this amazing web app or would like to check it out, please use my referral code so I can get more free space! I am able to create 250 additional points per month in my interactive Outline for every new user who signs up using the code I share.
I really see a lot of utility in this app but don't currently really have tons of cash to pay for the pro version so my life would be much better if I could save a lot more of my research notes in this very well organized and simple app. (it makes organization a breeze)
Thanks, network!!

Functional engineered kidney, nanotube ceramics, brain drug delivery, microbatteries, electronic DNA separation, nuclear qubits, and more.
1. Functional, Bioengineered Kidney Successfully Transplanted into Rats.
For the first time bioengineered rat kidneys have been shown to produce urine both in a laboratory apparatus and after being successfully transplanted into rats http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2013-04/mgh-mgt040913.php. This represents the next logical step in a technique that involves stripping the living cells from a donor organ with a detergent solution and then repopulating the collagen scaffold that remains with the appropriate cell type. The mix of cells was approximated by delivering vascular cells through the artery and kidney cells through the urethra. While this demonstration produced an organ ... more »

Conventional Path of Success:
20s Learning
30s Editing
40s Mastering
50s Harvesting
60s Guiding/Mentoring
With the acceleration of technology, it is now possible (but not guaranteed by any stretch of the imagination) to reach very high standards of success in shorter periods than the decades indicated above.

Hummingbird -- new music notation.
We don't still write text in the gothic font of the Gutenberg Bible, so maybe it is time to modernize music notation, too.

The bottleneck in human progress is discipline and focus which then further stymies our attempts at imagining and actualizing changes as well as attempts to become intelligent.
If we humans desire Post-Scarcity, Peace, and a Technological Singularity, then we need to figure out mental discipline.

"Centuries later we still can’t conjure gold from lead, sure, but what if it was possible to combine a handful of elements to very closely mimic gold? What if scientists engineered a synthetic Midas Touch that tricked base metals into performing like gold, thereby conquering the hurdles of rarity and price?"
"Now forget the alchemist’s dream of gold and consider the equally precious noble metal platinum – hovering right around $50,000 per kilogram – which may be the key to building a sustainable energy future. Now, using advanced technology and elements that cost 1000 times less, researchers at Brookhaven National Lab have created a high-performing pauper’s platinum from nanoscale building blocks."

1. Injectable Optoelectronics for Wireless Optogenetic Brain Sensing and Control.
A new optoelectronic device has been developed that greatly increases the capability of optogenetics in the brain. The 20 micrometer thick device is flexible and loaded with light-emitting diodes and sensors that are at a similar scale to neurons, and can be safely injected deep into the brain and controlled and powered using radio-frequency signals http://spectrum.ieee.org/biomedical/devices/injectable-optoelectronics-for-brain-control. Having a strong sense of Business and Finance isn't just incredibly useful for a business owner or entrepreneur but is indeed highly beneficial for anyone no matter how much money they make.
Optimization Strategies can be used by anyone in any aspect of life to bring themselves closer to their goals and dreams if only they have the patience and the consistent persistence and motivation to carry out the necessary patterns of behavior to succeed within the parameters that they desire or are required to complete a life mission they have.
A little bit of planning in life can go a long way even if and especially if you are "only" a mere consumer.
Plan
Save
Grow
Optimize
Invest
Diversify
Research
Repeat

It's rare that the "weird side" of YouTube meets a nexus with the "Academic side" of YouTube.
Interestingly enough, this talks is all about the nexus and separation of different parts of a whole, namely: Water.
Are Water's edges/surfaces a type of "Liquid Crystal?" This Scientists says: Yes.
What unique properties do they hold?
Photosynthesis
Water Filtration
Human Health
Microfluidics

Google+ dominates poll despite stacked deck!
Lifehacker is running a poll, asking "What’s Your Social Network of Choice?"
But they give Facebook and Twitter an unfair advantage: At the bottom are "Like" buttons for Facebook and Twitter. They're giving a tool to virally promote the poll on two of the social networks, but not the others. As a result, Facebook and Twitter have WAY more votes than Linkedin, Pinterest, MySpace and Instagram.
But Google+ is dominating the poll anyway, with (at the time I write this) twice as many votes as Facebook.
That's not enough.
Since Lifehacker decided to favor Facebook and Twitter, let's send them some Google+ love in the form of MASSIVE votes for Google+:
1. Share this post with all your circles.
2. Go here and vote for your social network of choice:
