In a lengthy post co-written with Sports Illustrated reporter Frank Lidz, Collins writes that after years of hiding his sexuality, March’s Supreme Court oral hearings pushed him to come out of the closet.
“Less than three miles from my apartment, nine jurists argued about my happiness and my future. Here was my chance to be heard, and I couldn’t say a thing,” Collins wrote.
Collins, who played for the Washington Wizards this year, waited until the season was over so as to not be a distraction to the team. Then he contacted Sports Illustrated through his agents to make the disclosure, according to an accompanying article.
“I’m glad I’m coming out in 2013 rather than 2003. The climate has shifted; public opinion as shifted. And yet we still have so much farther to go,” Collins concluded.

A recent viral video highlighted how massive wealth inequality in the U.S. has become in recent years, with the richest 1% of the country possessing more money than the poorest 80% combined. A major driver of this inequality is pay disparity, with CEOs in Fortune 500 companies now making 380 times as much money as the average worker. This is a massive increase from 1980, when CEOs were making 42 times as much as the average worker.
To help rectify this problem, Congress needs to pass legislation that caps the ratio of CEO pay to average worker pay at 50 times. CEOs can still be very well compensated, but this will help to drive down the massive disparity we're facing right now. Sign this petition to demand Congress help fix our income inequality problem by capping CEO pay.

"The Keystone XL Pipeline is dangerous, dirty, and destructive -- and the latest Environmental Impact Statement was both inaccurate and incomplete.
It ignores the pipeline's significant risk for toxic spills, ignores its catastrophic impacts on our climate, and ignores the clear consensus among financial analysts and oil executives who agree Keystone XL will make the difference in tar sands development.
The risk to Water Resources, alone, would stop this pipeline. While we cannot order Canada to stop this work, we can refuse to move the product at risk to our citizens.
