If you're in San Francisco you might want to come out to The Harvey Milk Photo Center this Friday 6:30-9 PM for the "In Transit" exhibit of Muni photos put on by +Muni Diaries. I'll have some photos on display along with +Troy Holden +Jeremy Brooks +Doc Pop and others. It should be fun.

I have a picture in the 2013 Market Street Railway Calendar. They asked me to write something about myself and why I photograph Muni. The photo here is not in the calendar. Two 22-Fillmore buses meet on the corner of Haight and Fillmore where the overhead Muni wires are especially web-like. The building, under construction, across the street was badly damaged in a fire.

Maiden Voyage
Here's one of my first shots on the Nikon #D800 . This image was down-sampled in Photoshop to half the original size after some minimal processing in Lightroom 4. I didn't do any sharpening at all. I was skeptical when the camera specs were leaked but I'm fully won over now. The level of detail is incredible. A circular polarizer was used here to get the clouds to pop a little more.

Well, I'm happy to say I'm one of the lucky ones to have a Nikon D800 in my possession. Desperate, after my Amazon pre-order delivery was pushed back to April 13-30th, I decided to take a stab in the dark and call a local camera shop, camerazonesf.com. I had never been to this shop or even heard of it before. The owner said he received a shipment of 2 by surprise today. One camera was a pre-paid order and I snagged the other one. I've only had a chance to shoot some junk pictures indoors but early impressions are very positive. I'm still kind of in shock that I actually have this camera in my hands. More to come...

So the long awaited Nikon D800 has finally been announced. I've been bumming about the rumored specs of 36MP and 4fps. A D3s sensor in a D700 body was more what I was wishing for. The rumored high MP specs have turned out to be the truth. Hat's off to +Nikon Rumors for nailing it! As a photographer who shoots a little of everything, I've been skeptical about whether the high MP was right for me. Now that I have seen samples and read the brochures I'm feeling a little better about it. Although not cheap, the prices are much lower than the rumors were predicting. I'm not totally sold on the D800 and still considering trying to find a D700 body.
There's two versions of this new camera, the standard D800 and the D800e, which has the anti-aliasing filter removed and is $300 more. The presence of an anti-aliasing filter reduces moire in images that have... more »

Friday Night Lights
This shot is from November of last year, one of those times when the sky is so amazing you just shoot from wherever you are and feel lucky you had a camera with you. This is a generic artificial turf soccer field but I actually like the color of the fake grass with the pink sky.

I decided last minute to participate in the "Your Best Photos" blog project that +Jim Goldstein is running. The purpose of the project is to allow fellow photographers to submit their best 5-10 photos from the 2011. So here's my submission There's no theme or cohesiveness here, just some of my favorite shots of San Francisco from 2011.
