A meatspace friend sent me a link to a short video this morning via a FB post.

I generally presume that almost everyone I run into' in the world outside my cave is 'there' in the midst of some huge known-only-to-themselves adventure, but that everyone almost habitually runs filters - if only to help them focus on the task immediately at hand - and most of the time, people seem to present an opaque shell that I suppose is the like the back side of a mirror - that protects the reflective surface that supports their drama and protects it, but that severely attenuates the transmission. and of course, my own internal dialogue interferes with my reception of all but the strongest signals from the outside world.

I'd like to offer a self-publishing entrepeneurial idea to anyone who might be interested - a new way to get self-published books into bookstores. In this emerging world of ebooks versus pbooks, there ought to be a way to put the two together. People who love pbooks should not have to miss out on ebooks, and self-publishers should not have to see their books alive online alone.

One of the great things about bookstores is browsing. One of the great things about online publishing is free excerpts. Both of these features allow readers to explore and discover books. With new print-on-demand technologies, why not combine the two? Pamplet-sized booklets consisting of excerpts could be easily and inexpensively printed and displayed in special “Indie” display units, such as those used for magazines or travel brochures.

Pretty much resonates with my own beliefs but with which a lot of people have a hard time accepting (i.e. giving up your power as a leader to support and empower others). You know what really gets me about the super-rich and the super-powerful? Their shortsightedness.

How is it that their massive egos haven't caused them to recognize the potential creative power of the individual human mind? How have they not set about harnessing that resource?

You've seen those ridiculously intelligent baby commercials, right? Why aren't all babies being schooled that way? Not all parents can afford it. Why can't all parents afford it? Because people are mouths and shoveling arms and remedial calculators, fleshy whiny machines that make us money.

Sand castles. They build sand castles with us, competing with each other about who has the biggest castle. The tighter they squeeze, the more we slip through their fingers.

Regularly Scheduled Programming

That's really the phrase I think will help the most. From there, people can realize that the programming thus far has been top-down, and that now with social networking it can be lateral and eventually bottom up. 

We no longer need 'the authorities' telling us what's going on, we can talk to each other. 

Is it not possible for me to now talk with victims of some bit of 'news' directly? We no longer need 'them' to tell us about the world around us - we can ask each other.

We can change who gets included in 'we' - and we can fit everyone inside the new 'we'.

Just mindly consuming whatever they come across, whatever's put in front of them. How do you wake up zombies?

Well, there's that new comedy coming out...

Not gonna happen. No one likes to realize their own zombie side, their own vampire side, their own serial killer side. They've spent their entire lives defining themselves a certain way, and they'll defend those beliefs to the death.

If I can come to the realization of what I am, so can they.

Not today we don't. While working today, trying to solve what I THOUGHT were problems, I did not watch television. I was in a bad mood, huge workload, all these things I worry about from day to day. 

I noticed it was 5pm, and turned on the news, and now I feel sick. 
There are dozens of children who went to school today in Oklahoma that are not coming home tonight. 

I think sometimes we get caught up in our lives, and think our problems and challenges outweigh anything going on around us. The fact is, on tonight, compared to these families, we don't have any problems. 

Please join me in sending your positive energy in whatever way that you or your God allows, to the families of those dead and missing children. I am not a parent, so I cannot imagine the kind of pain and anguish these families areexperie... more »
