Just back from a 4-day trip to the coast. Being that it was for a family wedding, I was actually quite happy to not take photos except for a few snapshots with an iPhone. My students were treated to a great sunset at my panoramic photo workshop this last weekend at Point Reyes. I only shot a few quick, grab-shot photos myself, but this gives a quick idea of the lighting conditions we had after getting fogged-in at Limantour Beach.

Sunrise at Drakes Beach, Point Reyes National Seashore, Marin County, California

I'd love to hear your thoughts about having a border around an image.

I've been trying keep my watermarks as light as possible on my images. The downside is that if an image is shared on social media (esp. Pintrest) without attribution, no one will know who took the photo. This is a first test of a border that includes my name, URL, and caption. Does it work for you, or not? What do you think of gray vs. a black or white border.

I visited this sacred place in Canyonlands National Park once before, but wasn't rewarded with the dramatic light that I was looking for. The next time I was in the area massive thunderstorms were rolling through the Utah desert. The sky went black and a huge storm was imminent. A good friend of mine and I grabbed all of our gear and quickly ran down the trail to take shelter in this alcove. Not five seconds after we reached shelter under the overhanging rock wall, the sky opened up and lightning began striking off the desert spires. As if that wasn't enough, flash floods began to rage off the canyon walls all around us. One in particular washed right through where we had just been hiking. We waited in the alcove for almost four hours hoping the storm would break and the golden afternoon light would peek through the clouds. It did. More border feedback?

Another border experiment; In this version, I went back to black, simplified the text, made it slightly opaque to make it a bit softer on the eyes to read, and included a small "All Rights Reserved" text blurb on the actual image, as inauspicious as possible.

I'd love to hear more thoughts or comments.
