On Saturday, I let a total stranger drive off with my family car. I was unnerved.
I just got the car back and am $50 richer. What did I learn? I got disrupted, and it's uncomfortable. What I experienced is what many brands will have to through in their own business, they will have to stop selling products and instead trade, rent, loan, or co-own. I wrote a heartfelt letter to brands, to share why I feel unnerved too.

New post: What did I see at the Maker Faire?
Now is a scary/invigorating time to be a brand
More disruptions to brands --and opportunities. Here's a post where I listed out what I saw, and gave my insights on what it means to corporations.

Just saw quite a few different 3D printers, some printed items that were concrete, wood, and salt.
I shared a bunch of photos and videos here:
Can you 3D print everything in your life? Almost. And think about the huge disruption to toy manufactures, retailers, consumer packaged goods, auto and other industries.
Went to Maker Faire with quite a few folks, and while I've been many years, was amazed by how large the 3D printing pavilion was. It spread to a large building, and they were showcasing materials printed by concrete, wood/polymer (that's right wood), plastic, salt, and many other materials.
Here's a few of the images or videos I captured
3D Printed Wood (mixed with plastic polymers to hold it together), made from sawdust https://twitter.com/jowyang/status/335858091675504640/photo/1

We just learned that Google Glass turns tinted in the sun.
See the small gray prism above +Chris Silva right eye? It's clear indoors, then transitions to shaded in the sun. Note there are no 'lens' in front of eyes, it's just a frame.
It was very awkward for me to get up that close to him and take the photo. We're close colleagues, but this is getting ridiculous!

I wish QR codes would go the way of the dodo, but it appears that will not happen.
Here's how Glass connects to Wifi. It looks, and scans, QR Codes
How it works?
1) Using a browser, you access the Glass website to configure the device
2) You enter in a wifi, and credentials
3) The browser renders this QR Code
4) Activate settings on Glass headset (scrolling by moving finger on temple)
5) Add network
6) Look.
7) Done.
One could also do a wireless tethering capability on mobile phone, or Mifi, which I'm trying (unsuccessfully) to setup.

What Matters at Google IO?
The Google announcement train was a wreck. Product after product after product in an uncoordinated fashion over 3 hours.
To make sense of this long series of announcements, I worked with +Chris Silva to boil down the salient, pithy points and what it means to us, consumers, and business.

Question: Is Facebook paid, owned or earned?
Answer: Yes.
Facebook is all, and starting to look like "all, all the time. They integrate advertising units along with content created by brands on their Facebook pages, and allow for consumers to share their opinions right in the comments. Sometimes, ads look like social content, and it’s hard to distinguish the difference. Thanks to +Rebecca Lieb and +Jessica Groopman

Facebook is going to nickel and dime you. I mean, $100 bill you.
I just tried to send Richard Brewer-Hay@ a private message in Facebook (we were not friends on FB) to congrats him on his new gig leaving corporate and starting a brewery.
And I get a message suggesting that I need to pay $1 to send a message to Richard. I nearly fell out of my chair. Then, I remembered the news that you could pay up to $100 to reach non-friends with a private message.
Quick, come up with some other creative ways that Facebook could make money from the experience?

Three amazing privacy or data leaks I saw in news today. Hold onto your hat these are wild:
1) Snapchat pictures (whose promise was that photos are instantly deleted) can now be recovered from the smart phone, for criminal investigations.
2) 3D printed gun designs have been banned by the Fed. By the time they got around to banning it, 10,000 designers were downloaded and no doubt spreading like wildfire.
3) Adult Dating App on Facebook "Bang with Friends" now shows which one of your friends are using it through Facebook Graph Search. (Hat tip Augie Ray)
What's disruptive? Everything and everyone. I literally saw all these stories in sequence this morning. Oh Internet, you so crazy.
Here's the sources, in order:
