At OSCON 2016 in London you'll encounter the open source ecosystem in its entirety—the full open source stack—exactly as you approach it in your work. You'll learn about the latest developments, add to your skills, and discover how other people are solving the same problems you're working on. At OSCON, participants find inspiration, confront new challenges, share their expertise, renew bonds to community, make significant connections, and find ways to give back to the open source movement.O'Reilly Open Source Convention2016-10-17 07:00:003

O'Reilly18,706#BigDataChat with @Strataconf &  @FractalSciences Topic: #AugCog (Augmented Cognition) To add to your calendar: RSVP to this event on G+ How to Join: http://oreil.ly/1ppagfl When: Wednesday, Oct 8th | 10-11 AM PST (1-2 PM EST) Where:  #AugCog on Twitter or Twubs Join Lean Analytics author @105249389350374598038, O’Reilly Media Chief Data Scientist @112088286330198500759, and @116675944916856761947 for a lively discussion on how machines are changing the way humans think. We’ll tackle some hard issues, speculate about the future of thought, and give away a few prizes, too. This #BigDataChat looks at augmented cognition: the ways machines are helping humans to decide better, and what that means for the future of human intelligence. Are we getting a brain upgrade? Are we becoming a new species? Were search engines just the start of a slippery slope towards assisted thought? And will we create unhealthy dependencies, or a digital divide that simply can’t be crossed? Today’s nascent tools like Siri, Cortana and Google Now are the earliest forms of #AugCog—but what’s in store for us next, particularly when tomorrow is filled with connected devices and smart motes. Whether you’re a #data scientist, UX designer, or just like speculating about where technology might take us, this topic is a fascinating and vital part of your future. So grab a coffee, follow the #BigDataChat hashtag, and join the conversation. Connect with experts & heavy hitters in the data industry for an hour of surprising insight, thought-provoking questions and polls, and plenty of networking. How to Join: 1. Go to #BigDataChat on Twitter Wednesday, Oct 8th at 10am PT 2.@Strataconf will post 10-12 questions about data topics, one every few minutes, labeled Q1, Q2, Q3, etc. 3. Anwer the questions that are the most interesting to you, labeling them for the corresponding question: (A1, A2, A3, etc.). 4. Make sure all comments, replies, or retweets include the hashtag #BigDataChat so everyone can see your tweets. 5. At the end of the #BigDataChat , one random participant will win a free prize announced from @Strataconf 6. Like a party, the Tweet Chat will move quickly and be done before you know it. It’s always a lot of fun and a great way to learn, brainstorm, and make new contacts.#BigDataChat with @Strataconf & @Fractal Sciences2014-10-08 19:00:0028

On day 3 Jen Kramer of O'Reilly Media, Inc. examines Bootstrap 4's new features and functions. She looks at the Sass files. That's right – Bootstrap 4 has dumped LESS in favor of Sass CSS preprocessor files. The files have been completely rewritten and refactored to take advantage of Sass data structures. It's easy to make changes to a few variables and have a much different looking page.

On Day 2 Jen Kramer of O'Reilly Media, Inc. examines Bootstrap 4's new features and functions, looking at cards. Bootstrap defines these as "a flexible and extensible content container. It includes options for headers and footers, a wide variety of content, contextual background colors, and powerful display options." Cards are so powerful, they have replaced three features from Bootstrap 3, including panels, thumbnails, and wells.

Evaluating and Choosing an IoT Platform by Matthew J. Perry
Get this free report thanks to ThingWorx http://bit.ly/202Qc6y

The root of the IoT is connectivity: more things, more people, and the matrix of connections that springs up between them. Yet in less than a decade, the technology has moved far beyond this fundamental consideration. Where many companies may have believed it was advantageous to build out a platform internally, it is becoming clear that much of the technology stack can now be implemented with out-of-the box tools and effective engagement with vendors.
