Is anyone on a Rogers (Canada) unlimited data plan able to use their phone as a hotspot?  I'm running stock 4.2.2 on my Galaxy Nexus and while I can connect to it with my N7 when I hotspot, I get no data.

My understanding is that 4.0 and later somehow abide by carrier blocks on data sharing, and the Rogers unlimited plan does not allow you to share your data.  I'm hoping there's a way around this, since my GNex has brutal drift on Ingress and I'd like to be able to use the N7 instead, but it's a wifi only version.

Aww... I wanted Google to Auto Awesome this for me.  Oh well, you can arrow through it quickly and it's sort of like it being animated.  And by sort of, I mean not really at all.

Anyhow, it's the new Ingress book available on Google Play and Amazon, for those of us who like all things Ingressy.

The new Google Maps-  some cool new stuff.

I do love that we now have airplane directions in addition to walking, car and bicycling, and that it is hooked into Google Flights :)  No more "swim" instructions  lol.

One thing I use quite often though is the ability to right click on any point on a map, and send that location to a Garmin GPS device.  It came in super handy on a major roadtrip last year, where I plotted out a bunch of points and uploaded them to my motorcycle gps in one easy step.  I'd hate to lose that functionality, so I'm hoping that the fact that its missing just means it hasn't been added to the preview yet.

As +Ralph Uy pointed out to me:

Single shot GoPro jpg, tonemapped in Photomatix and exposure corrected in Photoshop.   It could probably benefit from playing with layers to reduce the blowout over my right shoulder a bit, but I really like the reflection in the face shield.

Very, very sad news from the Toronto Marathon yesterday. An 18 year old woman collapsed about 3k from the finish. Passers-by did CPR until the paramedics came, but they were unable to revive her.

Rest in peace, Emma.

Today was the start of week 16 of our 18 week training plan heading into the Toronto Goodlife Marathon on May 5th.

It started out shockingly well- both my running buddy and I were feeling good, we had a nice pace going, and even though it was wet and chilly out, all was right with the world.

Until Leslie Spit and the lighthouse.  As we came up the east side of the loop around the light house, we noticed two geese in the middle of the gravel/rock/broken brick road.   Hey, we remarked to each other, there are some geese in the road.

Hey, I remarked, as we got closer, they aren't moving.  Hey wait a minute, yes they are, they're running right at us.

We slow down, they keep coming. We stop, they keep coming.  And picking up speed. And spreading their wings, and finally when it was all a little too late to do much of anything, they kind oflaunche... more »

Here in reverse order, are 34 of the 35 beautiful blue L8 portals launched last night by the Toronto Resistance. I'm missing a screen shot of one, the Zipcar location at Empress Walk in North York- we were moving reasonably fast at the time.

I have two personal favourites.   North York Civic Centre, as it was our 5th and our jolly green opposition had only managed to put up 4 L8 portals a couple of weeks back, and the final one, Casa Loma.  The symbolic home, if you will, of the Greens and one of their first L8s. Stopping by there was a 'how you doin?" kind of move and it was both fun and funny.

Great teamwork last night, solid co-ordination, and a beautiful blue path of L8 portals up the spine of Toronto, into York University and back down to Casa Loma.  A good time was indeed had by all, despite the wind chill.

RRRRollll up your pennies, my Canadian chums.

Now that the government has started to withdraw pennies from circulation, what do you want to keep that big ol' jar of chain for? I humbly suggest that you roll up all those coins, take them to the bank, exchange them for real money, and then take that real money and loan it on Kiva. You won't miss it, since it's just getting dusty as it is now, and you'll help a would-be entrepreneur or farmer somewhere in the world who needs your small loan to get going.

But Kevin, I hear you say, rolling coins is a major, major pain in the ass. True. So plan B for lazy folks like me is to take your huge bucket of change down to your local Loblaws and dump it into the Coinstar machine. You don't have to roll diddly, they spit you out a nice credit to use on your groceries, and then you can loan the money you otherwise would have spent... more »

This video starts off with what must be the understatement of the year:  "Ida's been training for weeks for the 100 metre dash, but she's still 97 and crossing a finish line is not as simple as it once was"

All I know is, I want Ida for a grandma.

And spoiler alert:  She doesn't just beat her age group record, she crushes it :)
