So I'm considering upgrading from the a550 to the a99. Would the "crop mode" on the a99 be better than regular shots on the a550?
Also, how is the support for 3rd party lenses? I have a bunch of minolta and sigma lenses that work on the a550.

Hey all,
I'm planning to go out fatbiking for the first time tomorrow with a friend of mine. So we're going to need rentals. We are both in Calgary.
Where would you recommend going for the day? Any maps would be helpful.  I've found this one place in canmore with fatbike rentals http://reboundcycle.com/articles/rental-reservations-pg143.htm but I don't know if the Canmore area is good for fatbiking or not.
I've heard that Grassi Lakes might be okay?

My buddy was on the news. His laptop was stolen while selling it to a kijiji user, in Dalhousie. If you're using craigslist or kijiji to buy/sell, be careful, and try to do your trading in high-traffic public places, or somewhere with cameras, just in case.

Snow Barrier

I am looking at the entries for this weeks #minimalmonday   and there are some amazing pieces of art being entered this week.
Last week somebody – I don't recall who it was – said I should enter something too. So from now on, every time we are having a guest curator on board, I will do that.

Last Friday I was out and about again. I left the house when temperatures where around -6C. Not too cold I thought. But the moment I crossed the 'QE2' (the highway that connects Calgary with Edmonton) I was in trouble. Temperatures started to plummet. And rather quickly too. When I was finally in the area I wanted to scout that day, temps had dropped to -21C! Now that is cold. Add some bitting wind and I knew I was mega underdressed.

Just installed the Jelly Bean 4.2 camera on my rooted Galaxy S3. My first crack at the Photosphere feature wasn't good enough to keep (probably because it was an indoor shot), but I can see it becoming something I'll want to use whenever I go somewhere cool.

Here's the guide for installing it in case you're not lucky enough to have 4.2 yet.

Alright. This is another mock up for the Play Store. I'm trying to find a way to make the Featured section a little more like the current tiles but so far I can't seem to squeeze them anywhere. So I did this to see how it fairs. Basically a little drop down menu in the app itself. You pull it down from the blue arrow and scroll down to see more featured apps.

The idea just got to my head so for those you like it and have tweaking suggestions, please comment below.

For those who don't like the idea, please offer a different suggestion and I will try to mock it up as best as I could. =)

I saw an article recently about fatbiking in the rockies.. about the regulations , where to rent the bikes, and more. Does anyone know what article that might be? I think they were saying that a park was now allowing people to use fatbikes there?

Cancelled my Nexus 4 order. Going for a Note II on contract next week.

I was okay with no expandable storage and battery, but the tipping point for me was the lack of OTG support. And people are saying that Touchwiz has gotten great over the years. And I'm really looking forwards to the battery life.

The new Westbrook station in the west line of the LRT. Neat place! Tall stairs on both sides of the tunnel to get upstairs. All the stations today had hot chocolate and cookies, which was totally worth checking out. Transit tourism! #yyc

Critique please! 

This is a self shot. I made a simple ring light out of paper and lit
it up with a wireless flash from the front for even light on the ring.
Because I have a cropped sensor, I wanted to focus at the minimum
range, but that's incredibly difficult to do by myself... so what I
did is use two mirrors (wall mirror behind camera, cosmetic mirror on
the left) to check my screen, and I used a shutter release cable to
