+Savage Race Ohio is complete! It was a great race, just over 4 miles as the crow files up and down the hills and slopes of a local ski resort (Mad River Mountain for those who know the area). I did it in about an hour and 20 minutes, and caught up to a lot of folks from the wave in front of me. Only obstacle I had trouble with was the Sawtooth, but the rest was pretty great! Shriveled Richard was freaky cold, but I got through it without any hyperventilating and I somehow avoided getting shocks on the tasers (my super-fast crawling action, I guess!).

I hope they'll be back next year because it was a great race... and now I know what I really need to work on for Mud Ninja in July!

Dear Lord, why have I never seen this before?
Before you get excited, this is a fan trailer and it's for a series that was proposed and canned years ago.

Signs that your kids are younger than your co-workers' kids: I was snickering because my boss and my two co-workers and I are wearing yellow, red, purple, and blue polo shirts and I had to explain to them all who the Wiggles are.

Wish me luck - heading off this weekend to my first +Savage Race in Ohio!
I'm doing it to raise money for my son's school via Train 4 Autism. If you can donate, your support would be greatly appreciated!

AWESOME version of "Stairway to Heaven" played by Heart at the Kennedy Center Honors, where Led Zeppelin themselves were the honorees.
Watching Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, and John Paul Jones weeping and jamming along with the performance of their most famous song is mind-numbingly amazing.
And can you even imagine being chosen to be the band who was going to play "Stairway to Heaven" TO Led Zeppelin? Being the guy who was going to play that now-classic guitar solo TO Jimmy Page? I know Heart started off as more-or-less a Zeppelin clone band, but even then, to play it at the concert honoring the band... amazing.

Buongiorno! buenos dias! bom dia! good morning! bonjour! guten morgen!

This weekend I'll be participating in the +Savage Race, my first of at least two races this summer to raise money for Train 4 Autism and the Helping Hands Center for Special Needs.
It's a 5-7 mile race with 25 obstacles including an ice water bath and electric shocks, as well as plenty of mud. I hope you'll be able to support my pain and humiliation with a donation! I've raised $150.00 of my $1000 goal so far, a long way to go! But I can get there with your help.

Happy Birthday to my wonderful wife and absolute best friend, Jenn Fellrath! Can't imagine life without you... glad you enjoyed your present and doubly glad I was finally able to pull one over on you! Surprise...WICKED! :) Yes, we saw Wicked at the Ohio Theatre for this afternoon's matinee... if you haven't seen it, see it. Not only is it a great performance, it's got something for all the even moderate Oz geeks!

Looking for a great on-ramp type program for obstacle racing training? I think you could do much worse than Darryl Edwards's Paleo Fitness!
I wrote a review of this great book on Amazon, check it out. It's a great, full-body, movement-based plan that incorporates all the skills one might need for OCRs, plus preparedness for stuff we may not have seen before.

Just added an Amazon.com review of The Paleo Fitness Book by The Fitness Explorer, Darryl Edwards today! Summary: it's awesome. If you're looking to get started with a fitness program designed to get you moving as evolution intended, this is the best way I've seen thus far.

A good article on the whole "fake geek girl" controversy. And I have to say that it's nice to see topics like this making it to the mainstream media.

Anyone tried these out yet? Or are they too new? Being a fan of minimalist shoes, I'm a bit dubious and want to hear more about them.

Had a massive weekend. Saturday, +Jennifer Fellrath, the kids, and I hit the Columbus Asian Festival - one we'd never been to but will return to next year, it was an absolute blast! That afternoon we got to meet up with my cousin and his family along with my great uncle here in Columbus as well. Truly fun, they're a great family.
Sunday was a day of relaxation, with a now-epic trip to the ravine at Whetstone Park of Roses in Columbus. We were out there for about three hours playing in the creek, hunting for tadpoles, playing with our dog (who's been out for the count since we got back - he's almost 13 years old and wasn't used to that level of activity but we ran into a group of other dogs and that was the end of it), and just having fun jumping around and playing!
Today Jennifer and our son Duncan ran the Clintonville Community Resource Center 5K race while... more »

How brave Children walk to School around the World
It is easy to believe that we have it hard when the alarm rings for work or school early in the morning each day. But as these pictures show, it's worth a lot to have a normal and safe way to our daily activities...
Tim Costello, CEO of World Vision says: "Every day, around the world, we're seeing the power of education to transform communities. For instance, girls who spend seven years in school marry on average four years later and have 2.2 fewer children. An extra year of primary school boosts girls’ eventual wages by 10 to 20 per cent. An extra year of secondary school boosts wages by 15 to 25 per cent. Every time these children make such journeys to school, they don't benefit just themselves, but their entire communities." → goo.gl/3z93R

Just got an email from "Adobe Revel" - apparently Adobe is making Photoshop.com into a new product.
I had four photos over there that I used to try out their service once... and that's it. The message below is what I got in my email... only the barest mention that they were from Photoshop.com or anything. I had no clue what photos they were even talking about when I first read it.
I'm not a fan of Adobe to begin with, and I deleted this account right away.
Does this seem like the way to let people know that there's a new product coming and that your old files are going to be affected by it?

Hey +Evernote users using the Chrome browser - check out the "Clearly" Chrome add-on. It allows you to strip off side menus and such to do your web clipping and even do things like highlight text in articles and such. Truly a great add-on for Evernote.

Understanding Google's new design: It's all about cards.
From The New Yorker: "A card will be the atomic unit of information display across all of Google."
See what I did there? I put what we journalists call a "pull quote" as the top line. The reason is that I know in your stream you will see only my "headline" and my first line, and I wanted to make it compelling enough for you to click and read.
Welcome to the new Google+.
Some people are complaining about this, saying its anti-writer, anti-words, pro-photos or too much like Pinterest.
In fact, Google+ always displayed only the first few lines of each post, but now they're displaying fewer.
Let's be clear about why this is happening: Google is fully embracing the cards interface. A card is a unit of information that could contain any... more »
