I'm having a really hard time navigating and moderating this new column layout. I also can't seem to really follow my feed. That's the one thing that I really liked about G+ over Facebook - the single column timeline of events. Jumping into multiple columns is tough to determine what's new and what's not.

The Phoenix was my very first job - an unpaid internship verifying show listings in the classifieds section during college. I went to +WFNX after that (owned by the Phoenix, which has been sold this past year.) I worked for them, for FREE, for maybe four years. DId I say I worked there for free? Yes I did, because it was an awesome job to have at the time. Sure I got "paid" by working at events and getting to see a lot of great bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, the Breeders, pretty much anything that dominated radio the early 90s. I also got more than my share of comp CDs. But working there was fun. I got to be part of insider community that so many Bostonians truly loved and, well, relied upon for a social life.
I live in Portland, ME now. The Portland Phoenix is not going away, but I never had that feeling of "this is my paper" with the Portland Phoenix. We already had the ... more »

On Friday Google published an interactive info graphic called "How Search Works," including their search quality rating guidelines, and how Google deals with spam. We took a look at the ingfographic, and provided some insights on the guidelines, which seems to be more of an edited version of one that was previously circulated amongst webmasters and SEOs. Loved this post by +Bryson Meunier - even includes a TL;DR Recap at the end (a fantastic idea btw). Here's his summary of the review of the book by +Karen McGrane:
- Worth reading for those interested in intersection of mobile and content marketing.
- Good overview of what adaptive content is and how to implement it in an organization.
- Is focused on adaptive rather than mobile-specific content to its own detriment. Both have value.
- Makes too broad a pronouncement by saying user data can’t be used to optimize experience.
- Search and other types of data can be used to provide a user-focused mobile site.
- Section on mobile SEO not especially helpful
