Gailen Mapes62,568Hand Picked Photographers Circles - Nikon Camera  A-C - 14 of 30Note: These circles are sorted by camera type and last name. They are split to not exceed 200 members.           These circles are photographers that I admire. They have "more photos, less spam."  There have been many additions and a few drops (mostly for spam or inactivity).       Be sure to get all of the circles. Share! If you miss any of the circles they can be found at: +Gailen Mapes and scroll back to April 1st for the start of this set.  (Previous complete set was published starting March 1st.)  You can also use the #handpickedcircles hash tag.I am hard up against the 5000 limit. From here on, I am going to have to become rather more strict about the "spam rules." Essentially if I have to go back more than a screen on your profile before I hit original material, there is a good chance that I may drop you from the circles. Of course there will be mitigating factors...Because of the way that Google no longer presents every person who adds me to their circles to me it is quite possible that I have missed some pretty good photographers.  If I am following you, chances are that you are already in one of these circles or in my "check later" circle.  If you think you have been missed, tag a comment on one of these posts and I will check your profile out for inclusion.  Guidelines for inclusion can be found at:   https://plus.google.com/u/0/103752943025677384806/about#circleshare #circlesharing #circleoftheday   #sharedcircles   #sharedcircle #sharedpubliccircles   #fullcircleshare #addmetoyourcircles #pixelworld   #pixelworldcircle #circleoftheday #bestsharedcircle   #thebestcirclesongoogle #thebestcircle             #handpickedcircles             Note: the hash tag #handpickedcircles  should only be used to refer to these circles and other circles created by +Gailen Mapes2014-04-14 10:20:0519710412

Guidelines for inclusion can be found at: https://plus.google.com/u/0/103752943025677384806/about2012-07-11 15:23:32368675
Jan Kabili28,372Sharing circles is a plus for everyone. Nearly every time one of my G+ friends has been kind enough to include my name in a published circle, my follower count has gone up. And making a published circle your own is of course a great way to enjoy new G+ friends. In that spirit, here is my circle of Photoshop and Lightroom enthusiasts. Some are folks I found on G+; others asked to be added. It's all good.2012-06-18 14:32:062669316

Thomas Hawk2,461,0112,000 Kick Ass Photographers on Google+Part 1 of 4 (A-Ev)This is the fourth time since joining G+ almost a year ago that I'm sharing my photographers circle.  I shared it with 500 photographers, 1,000 photographers, 1,500 photographers and now 2,000 photographers.  I have to break my circle up into four 500 photographer circles as that is the G+ limit.  Each day this week (Mon.- Thurs.) I'll share a different circle.  Today is the first circle and includes photographers with the last name's A-Ev (although +Marc Evans you are in tomorrow's circle).  A few notes about these circles.  I always get hated on when I share them by people.  Inevitably if I include 2,000 people, I will leave 50,000 people out.  This is not intentional or personal.  This circle is not "the best" photographers on G+ or in the world.  It doesn't mean if you are not in my circle that you are not a "quality" photographer.  This list is simply photographers that I've stumbled across for whatever reason over the past year and have chosen to follow their work.  In some cases I've gotten to know the photographers in this circle personally -- through photowalks and trips, hangouts, in real life, etc.  Many of these people are or have become my friends.  Most of the photographers in my circle though I don't even know.  They are just people whose work I admire and want to consume -- I hope many are future friends.  :)I use some objective criteria with this circle but I use a lot of subjective criteria too.  This is, afterall, my own personal circle that I look at and +1 from every single day.  My aesthetic taste and personal preferences may be very, very different than yours.  This is ok.  Art is subjective.  That said, here a breakdown of my own preferences and biases that influence who I add into my circle.1.  I like people who are active on G+.  If you haven't posted one of your photos in the last month you probably are not in this circle.  I use a script to uncircle inactive people regularly.2.  I like photographers who mostly post their own photographs.  I dislike clutter and "dumb stuff" in my photographers circle.  Excessive reshares, circle shares, memes, gifs, youtube videos, posts not about photography, web links, etc. make me uncircle or move people to a different circle.  I also like photographers who regulate how much of their photography they post to their stream.  I don't want to see 50 shots in a row of someone's vacation.  I think about 5 photos max a day feels about right to me.3.  *Controversial* I dislike signatures and watermarks.  You will find photographers in my circle that use them.  It's just a bias, not a hard and fast rule.  I mostly want this stream to be as watermark/signature free as possible.  I totally understand and respect your reasons and decision for using watermarks/signatures.  I hope you equally respect my decision to not want to consume photos mared up with them.  Please don't turn this into a discussion about watermarks/sigs, I've spent the last 10 years thinking heavily about this issue.  It's just a personal preference and bias.4.  I like people who are active, positive, helpful, enthusiastic G+ community members.  I dislike people who are rude, mean, complainers, trolls, harrasers, etc.  If you say mean things to people, about people, about their art or their work I don't want to follow you.  I'm fine with debate and disagreement.  It should just be done respectfully -- there's a huge difference between respectful disagreement and rude behavior.  Not only will you not be in this circle if you are rude, I'll probably 2012-06-04 16:53:26500226139424

Peter From35,781The Photoshoppers & Lightroomers Circle –– Validated & Revised Version #CircleSharingForThePeoplePLC2 The time has come to reshare my validated and revised Photoshoppers & Lightroomers Circle (PLC) with 500 excellent artists that produce great imagery, compositions, tips etc. You don't want to miss this one. I am proud to promote these great people and I am sure they will bring lots and lots of great and interesting stuff to your feeds. If YOU want to hop on the next PLC train, do the following:1. Help spread the word and reshare this circle post. Why? If you think you should be promoted, you should be willing to do the same for your fellow artists. Simple as that.2. Ask for inclusion in the comments. I will check every feed.3. Make sure that you share your own original artwork in your feed. If there are too many reshares of other peoples' work, irrelevant YouTube clips, animated GIFS, blog post teasers etc., I might not add you to the circle. The PLC is a validated quality circle that should bring people great imagery to their feeds.NOTE! If you see that I have plussed your comment, then you know that I have added you to the next revision of the PLC. I didn't PLUS your comment? Make sure that you have reshared this circle post and let me know that you did so.HOW TO AVOID FLOODING OF THIS POST IN YOUR FEED:This post is hash-tagged with #CircleSharingForThePeoplePLC2 so that you may mute the reshares this post will generate. That way you will avoid seeing multiple copies of this post in your feed and your adrenaline level will stay normal. I will add a new hash-tag for every announcement and circle post. That way you won't miss out on any of the action but still can mute all the duplicate reshares. Here is an excellent add-on that will help you to mute the reshares: http://code.google.com/p/nonplus/Cheers!2012-05-21 09:36:07500102106121

Over 200 posts of really great images and lots of great comments. Please add this circle of great photographers, videographers and great sharers of quality images. The circle is checked to make sure that everyone in the circle has posted in the last month so it is a very active circle. Please add it and share it. Warren Brooks0A Photoshop/Lightroom circle for anybody interested in getting their social skills on. There should be plenty of inspiration in here.If YOU want to be included in the next reshare of this circle, just do the following: 1) Leave a comment below, 2) reshare this post to spread the word and thus help promote the great people in this circle. And... As always: no reshare, no inclusion –– NO exceptions... Of course, I want to find some quality original content in your feed as well if you want in. If you do not wish to be in the circle, let me know and I will remove you asap.If you already are included in this circle you don't have to reshare this post if you do not wish to do so. I won't throw you out... :) But if you want to reshare anyway, it's much appreciated.Due to some controversy regarding my way of circle sharing, I want to clarify why I want you to reshare this post. To me Google+ is all about sharing and resharing, i.e. promoting yourself and others and NOT feeling bad about it. The more we spread the circle posts, the more people will be able to see YOUR work as well as the work of the other circle members. If you don't like that, fine, I respect that, but that's the way it works in my feed. If it disturbs you, feel free to uncircle me and/or block me, I will respect that too. With that said, enjoy this circle and feel free to ask for an inclusion. Alik Griffin5,462PhotographersSo I think I've finally got a pretty solid circle of photographers ready to share. I've been refining this for the last month, adding photographers who have a good eye and aesthetic that I think are good. I like photography that takes you places and allows you to see people and things from all parts of the world from perspectives you've never seen before. I think many of the photographers in this circle do that very well. These are all very active G+ users and should provide your stream with some really nice content. If you are new to G+ you can start growing your network and enhancing your stream with with some of googles greatest. Please share.#photography #photographers #sharedcircles #artists2012-04-13 00:13:54485383034

We are sad to see him leave but we understand his reasons. We wish him all the best and want to thank him for all the hard work he put it to the theme and the wonderful images he contributed. • We realize that naming all of the curators can get to be a bit much so we ask you to name at least one of us and the page. Certainly, we all like to receive the notice so we hope you'll mention us all but we'll understand if you don't.Hopefully the circle includes everyone that contributed to Sacred Sunday this week, but experience says we missed some. Mark Summerfield1,685Thought I would reshare this circle that I originally put out on Saturday morning as I guess many of you had other things to deal with than G+ circles. This circle has some wonderful photographers (and a couple of graphic artists) which would enhance anyone's G+ stream. They provide me with great content and, more importantly, inspiration and ideas. I hope you find some additional people to follow that will add to your stream as they have done mine.2012-03-19 18:06:16249101

Michael Earley7,724Thanks to all for another great week at #transporttuesday We are now over 300 strong in our circle since it started a few weeks ago. The only criteria to get into this circle is the willingness to share your images or promote others works on transport related images. This week there were some very wild methods of transport that I have never seen. Please check the thread and add these wonderful people into your world. If your in the circle, or even if you are not, please share so we can continue to grow this fun community. If you are not in the circle and you have shared, please let me know.2012-03-07 06:47:263141899
Michael Earley7,209Whether by land, sea, air, ground, rail, road, path or sand, if it moves and carries cargo or people, the people in this circle have captured images at all different angles and points of views. Check out there posting at #transporttuesday or on their individual pages. The theme is growing each week and if you have not contributed, please do so. The theme is curated by +Gene Bowker, +Steve Boyko , +Joe Paul , +Mike Masin and myself +Michael Earley but more importantly the content is supplied by the folks in this circle. Please share if you wish.2012-02-29 07:49:43279668

Thomas Hawk846,3871,500 Kick Ass Photographers on Google+ (A-G, Part 1 of 3)1,500 Kick Ass Photographers on Google+ (A-G, Part 1 of 3) http://goo.gl/WGdFw1,500 Kick Ass Photographers on Google+ (G-O, Part 2 of 3) http://goo.gl/1yiS61,500 Kick Ass Photographers on Google+ (P-Z, Part 3 of 3) http://goo.gl/6nLZEI've shared my photographers circle on Google+ two times now. Once when it got to 500 and then again when it got to 1,000. Today my circle hit 1,500 so I'm sharing them again.I have to break them up into 500 person circles because this is the limit on Google+. Also Google limits the number of people you can add to circles per day so I'm going to publish my kick ass photographers circle over 3 days. Today I'm publishing A-G. Tomorrow I'll publish G-O. Friday I'll publish P-Z. By last name.In addition to the kick ass photographers in these circles I've also added three other accounts. Our new photography hangout show which will be on live tonight at 8PM PST +Photo Talk Plus as well as our show's sponsors +Drobo and +SmugMug as a way of saying thanks to them.A few notes about these circles. not to be long-winded, but…Every time I've shared my circles I've gotten haters from it. People who are upset that they are not in them. I absolutely detest that. It makes me not even want to share them because of that. These circles are not meant to be the definitive list of what photographers you should be following on Google+. These circles are simply who I have chosen to follow for photography on Google+ for my own personal consumption. I want to share them because I think YOU may also benefit from having these rich, talented, kick ass photographers in your streams. This is the circle that I browse every single day looking for great stuff to +1 and comment on Google+ and as such it reflects my own personal biases. For example. I hate looking at watermarks. This is a personal preference thing. If you use them, more power to you. It's absolutely your right. But as a consumer of photography I find them ugly and distracting and so I tend not to follow people who use them. This is not a big deal. This is not a personal attack against you if you watermark. This isn't even a universal rule of mine. I do have a few friends who use them that I still follow. But by and large, what you get with my circles is a watermark/signature free circle. I also prefer people who are active on Google+ both in terms of posting and in terms of contributing to the community. If the last photo you posted was in November, I probably won't have you in this list.If you were in my photographers circle before but removed, it could be for a lot of these sorts of reasons. Watermarks/sigs, not posting enough, posting too much non photography stuff that I'm not interested in, or all kinds of other things. Who knows. But it's most definitely not personal. (Unless I'm blocking you and then maybe it is personal). Also if you are not in these circles it may simply be because we don't know each other yet. In time perhaps we will become great friends (hopefully). Or you may not be in these circles just 2012-01-18 23:20:26500193111261

Gailen Mapes1,080I haven't shared circles since Monday, so it is time again. Lots of changes! This is my Hand Picked "Other Camera Camera circle with last names A-K. Here you can find photographers that shoot camera phones to Hasselblads. These people are chosen for good pictures,, good information and not too much spam. If you have any suggestions for additions to these circles, please comment on the original post or make sure you reference in the comment of shared circles. Canada Day celebrations on July 1st - so I decided to have a go at fireworks. Learned lots and looking forward to another opportunity (without waiting a whole year!) to improve. One important lesson I learned was to carry a small flashlight so I can see what settings I am changing to!

My share with #BirdPoker  and +Phil Armishaw Today's challenge Tip of the Beak.
I had an image of this fellow drumming his breast - acting all manly, but the tip of his beak did not show up well with the bubbles and splashing water. It is certainly fun watching them perform for the ladies.

Returned from PSW and a side trip to southern Utah. Captured this scene on our way to Arches National Park. Something I like about it. Maybe because it is two photos in one.

I have enjoyed a lively flock of these hardy fellows at my feeder this winter. This guy was kind enough to pose nicely for me.

There are so many amazing photogs on Google+ I rather hesitate to post this notice. But nothing ventured, nothing gained, so here goes.
I have posted my first ever Blog. Check it out, I would love some feed back. Too long? Too short? Too many images? Not enough detail? Any suggestions for improvements would be gratefully received. Thanks for your time and effort in critiquing this post.

This little Redpoll decided to get away from the rest of his buddies at the feeder and checked out the sunflower heads in the garden. He was nice enough to put on an acrobatic display while he dined.

I have made a promise to myself that I will set up a web site over this winter. I got looking into it and oh boy its a tough decision on what to use. I am wondering if anyone out there has any recommendations for me. An added consideration is - I'm Canadian! Some providers charge huge shipping rates to Canadian destinations.
Thanks for any input!

I think I have slipped rather behind in my submissions (June is always a busy busy month) and now I am away on holidays. I dragged my poor husband out early the other morning looking for Fisgard Lighthouse as per +Andrew Willard 's recommendation but they don't open the gates until 10:00 a.m. Made a swift change to plan B and was happy with the results.

The Highwood River that runs through my town is usually a lovely spot to enjoy a little respite from the heat of August or catch a trout or two in the evenings but in the spring it can be a totally different creature. With water coming down from the mountain snowpack Spring run-off and above normal rainfall our friend has turned into a dangerous and threatening torrent of muddy water.

I managed to catch this Harris Hawk at the moment she hit her handler's hand - more a matter of good luck than good management. When I tried to catch it again it turned into a disaster. Moral of the story - be satisfied with what you got the first time, sometimes it is the best you are going to do.

Sometimes we make things harder than we should. I've been wracking my brain trying to come up with something novel for this weeks theme then last night we decided to enjoy a fire out on the patio. Our Springer Spaniel settled into a chair near her dear master and gazed lovingly at him. Couldn't resist, pulled my phone out and got this shot.

This is Snoopy, he's a Turkey Vulture and a resident of the Alberta Bird of Prey Recovery Centre located at Coaldale AB. You may recognize him from the opening scene in Shanghai Noon where he was nibbling on Owen Wilson's ear. Visiting the center provided a wonderful opportunity to photograph numerous birds of prey, practice techniques and to learn more about some of the lessor known raptors and scavengers as well the their more famous relatives.

This Northern Shrike flew into my patio window and immediately got himself up into a nearby tree to regain his senses. That gave me an opportunity to change lens, fire off 50 shots and get my bird identification book out. After reading about this fellow I was glad to see him leave my yard (never to return) and leave the visitors to my feeder alone.
