It´s so boring to watch heroes save the day. The same story over and over again - hero comes, beats everyone up, goes home. But the villains have crazy and fresh ideas every time - i want to know more about them, who they are, why they do what they do - and what they do the rest of the day. They must have a very complex private live.

Modeling the female body
My second try on using Sculptris. It´s ridiculous how much i enjoy this. The human body is just a marvelous piece of art - especially if you consider it´s cultural and philosophical weight. This time i went for a rather average physique (for European standards that is). Sadly the breasts didn't work out that well. It is much harder to make natural breast than perfect breasts. On the other hand i spend quite some detail on the navel - which you can't really see her.

Funnest vs. funniest
Her is another one of my language posts. And this time i will keep it short. You sure have read or heard people use the word "funnest". And you might think that that is evil and they should use proper language.
BUT...
... the thing is "funnest" and "funniest" are not the same thing. Funniest is the one that is the most funny.
Funnest on the other hand is an expression of utter joy towards that what you enjoy. It does not mean that something is funny, it means that something is fun. So these two words have another root. Funniest comes form funny. Funnest comes from fun.
A kiss can be the funnest kiss ever - which does not mean that you laughed. It means that you enjoyed it very much.
So why not say "the most fun" instead of funnest? Because language is also meant to express emotion. As... more »

There is nothing wrong about making money with games. It´s true that neither publishers nor Console makers are earning anything on the resale of a game. So why is this good for indie games?
As indie developers we should be very interested to reach out to our community and be part of them. We are gamers that make games for other gamers - out of passion, out of love and to earn some cash. So with single-use codes Microsoft is driving more people towards indie games. Maybe not on their console system, where the same rules apply - indie or not. But on all the other device. And these are much much larger markets than consoles could ever be. But why should indie games be in favor of used games?

The new Flickr - is basically Picasa
So what Miss Magic Marissa Mayer did was basically to copy the Picasa (G+ albums) design and slap on a 1TB space sign - to which she says herself in the Keynote, could not be filled with all the pictures ever taken. G+ all the while offers unlimited space + 15GB if you need to have a 16MP photos on the internet (what ever that might be good for).
And what about Tumblr? Magic Marissa says she intents to make it fit for ad customer and bring it on the same Level as Facebook or Twitter - two social media services that lately start to become rather uncool to be on. not to mention that the 1.1 billion acquisition is a open invite for anyone who wants to sue yahoo for copyright issues over tumblr (as Lance points out here http://mashable.com/2013/05/20/can-yahoo-ignore-tumblr-prn/ )

RIP tumblr - time to look for a new service
So, Yahoo really bought tumblr. 1.1 Billion - should have put that money into fixing their crap yahoo services. I wonder what happens when they find out that most of tumblr is porn? I also wonder where i'm getting my free and spam-less porn now? This sucks on so many levels. It´s like as if Microsoft bought Android. Shit´s gonna get myspaced real soon.
Why i believe they will F*** this up? Name one Yahoo service that is good? Flickr? LOL - left that years ago.

Capturing the fine physic of the human female body is quite hard. But for a first try, it´s not so bad. 3D modeling is much more intuitive than i thought.

The small steps...
One thing that i try to integrate in my life all the time, is to make big steps by making small steps. The best way to do this, is to chop up one bigger task into micro tasks that you can fit in as the day goes on. Like reading 2-3 pages in a book on the bus, meditating for 5 minutes while you wait for your dinner to cook, making doodles while you watch a show.
Did you know:
15 pages a day = 5475 pages a year = 22 books at 250 pages
15 minutes meditation a day = 91.25 hours meditation per year
3 doodles a day = 1095 doodles a year
30 min tutorials a day = 10950 minutes a year = 182.5 hours
You can fit a lot of this in the small gaps in your day - and the best thing is, that they give you energy back, instead of taking it. And it´s also highly inspirational. As a result your brain will work better and good thing will come a ... more »

Why old on-demand games should cost 5$ or less
Do you know Marco? He is the guy running one of the many second hand game stores in my neighborhood. He sells games like Halo ODST, Fable 3 or Gears of Wars 2 for 5€. And that is because he gets so many of them, that he can´t get rid of them for a higher price. So Marco thinks i should pay him 15€ for all three games.
Xbox live thinks i should pay them 85€ for these 3 games.
So you can imagine that i am going to buy the games from Marco-soft instead of Microsoft. What do the developers earn when i buy the game from Marco? Nothing. Zero. It´s about the same as if i would just download the game from the internet and hack the console. Which i´m not going to do, because i want the real thing.

Why are there words like Silhouette?
I know that seems like a strange question, but look at how we revolutionize everything from technology to fashion to marriages to education or finance. Yet we have words like Silhouette. Why not "Siluet"? There is no other word that this could be mistaken for and it makes little sense to keep a complex word form, if we can use a short one that sounds and means the same. You could say "outline" but an outline is not the same as a silhouette in many cases.
So, why would i want Siluet instead of Silhouette? Two important reasons:
1) As we are faced with more information all the time, it is now more important that language is streamlined to understand what it is about and to use that information accordingly. (And i say this as a person that was always more affectionate towards long complex words like "an... more »

Where are the tech geeks?
Given that i mostly post about technology and design and given that this was a google keynote, i kind of expected more of a discussion on the things shared. I agree that this keynote lacked in cats and bacon most of the time, but still, some pretty major changes and some goodies. I almost feel compelled to develop for android devices now.

Strange questions
I´m somewhat surprised that a lot of questions he gets asked are something i would expect to be asked a politician or president, rather than a ceo. I think you can see from that what huge influence google already has on the world. If people expect from google to bring freedom of speech and education to their countries, instead of politicians, that´s a bit strange.
