Steveston Beacon - http://www.grantmurrayphotography.com/
View it LARGE here: http://tinyurl.com/confpsx
This is a 30 second exposure of a beacon in Steveston, which is a great little fishing village in Richmond, British Columbia.
I used a 10 and a 3 stop ND filter, and stacked a 3 stop soft grad ND filter, to get the right level of contrast in the clouds and water.
Steveston is a really great little place to visit, with awesome fish and chips, if you stay away from the touristy spots :-)
I used a 10 stop and 3 stop ND filter and a 3 stop hard grad ND filter, to get the right level of contrast and detail in the clouds, reflections and water.
The techie stuff:
Sony A850 D-SLR
Zeiss 24-70mm Lens

This is a 135 second exposure of of the horizon at Long Beach in Tofino on Vancouver Island.
I used a 10 and a 3 stop ND filter, and stacked a 3 stop hard grad ND filter, to get the right level of contrast in the clouds and water.
Tofino is such a special place and is so awesome for long exposure seascapes. The clouds and light were perfect that day. I love long beach, as it has wonderful patterns in the sand and the ridges hold water at low tide, which creates a great mirror effect.
I used a 10 stop and 3 stop ND filter and a 3 stop hard grad ND filter, to get the right level of contrast and detail in the clouds, reflections and water.
I'm pretty proud of this one and I really feel I'm evolving as an artist.

This is a 100 second exposure of the rickety old pier at China Camp State Park, in California.
I'm dedicating this to my buddy +John Kosmopoulos, who happened to be standing right next to me when I created this image. He saw the preview of it on my camera's LCD and said it looked like it had great potential...thanks Buddy :-)
It was an extra special day, as I got to hang out with my old and newly acquired friends; +Nathan Wirth , +Steve-Maxx landeros , +Athena Carey , +Brian Spencer , +Alan Allum , +Stefan Bäurle , +John Kosmopoulos , +Toby Harriman , +Rob Dweck and +Kurt Harvey...good times!!

"Lost Lake" - http://www.grantmurrayphotography.com/
This image was created on the shore of Lost Lake in Whistler, British Columbia.
It was a glorious Sunday afternoon in September 2012 and the weather Gods really were kind to me that day. It had been 35 degrees Celsius with blue sky for 4 days, which made my then 8 month pregnant wife a very unhappy camper. Thankfully the heat finally broke on the Sunday and the high was 16 degrees Celsius, which made being outside a pleasure.
The little flower (weed?) on the rock finally played ball and remained still for this exposure. The wind was pretty strong, so I had many aborted attempts before everything fell into place. Long Exposure photography requires a lot of zen like patience and just being out in nature is enough...an image or two you are happy with is the icing on the cake.
British Columbia really is a... more »

This is a 75 second exposure at Iona beach in the Strait of Georgia, Vancouver.
I used a 10 and a 3 stop ND filter, and stacked a 3 stop hard grad ND filter, to get the right level of contrast in the clouds, water and around the reeds.
The clouds and light were perfect that day and created a layer of light around the reeds as the tide was coming back in. It was a waiting game for the water levels to be just right, so I got there with plenty of time to spare and stood in the mud waiting for the water to rise...fun times :-)

I was in San Fran early in January for the +A Slice of Time - SF Bay Photowalk 2013. This image was created on the Monday after the Photowalk. I met up with +Nathan Wirth , +Athena Carey , +Alan Allum and +John Kosmopoulos for breakfast and spent a wonderful day shooting around Pacifica and beyond with such amazing company.
The weather conditions for the entire trip were really special and the Monday was certainly no exception. The crowds had all departed after the crazy busy Photowalk weekend, so I had my favorite people all to myself.

The crowds had all departed after the crazy busy Photowalk weekend, so I had my favorite people all to myself. The Pacifica Pier is pretty damn cool and makes for a very interesting subject. "The Migration" - http://www.createwithlightphotography.com/
This is a 30 second exposure of the amazing Transamerica Pyramid building in San Francisco, California.
The clouds were scudding over the building and I felt that using a 30 second exposure would give the sense of a flock of birds flying overhead, as I often see with Canadian Geese in Vancouver. I'm really happy with the result, as it turned out just as I had hoped. It's very gratifying when vision, composition and processing work in beautiful harmony :-) Happy Friday everyone.

"Bay Bridge Blues" - http://www.createwithlightphotography.com/
I was in San Fran about 8 weeks ago for the +A Slice of Time - SF Bay Photowalk 2013. This image is from the Saturday morning when I co-led the Architecture workshop with the awesome +Stefan Bäurle , +Brian Day and +Nathan Wirth.
This is an image of the less famous Bay Bridge and Pier 14, along the Embarcadero in San Francisco looking towards Treasure Island. YES this image has color in it, but it is a monochrome image, so it's not straying far from my beloved black and white :-)
It was an amazing day and a joy to see so many photographers lined up along the waterfront. I loved every minute of being there and the fact that I got an image or two that I'm really happy with is a huge bonus.

"Seal Rock 1" - http://www.createwithlightphotography.com
I was in San Fran last month for the +A Slice of Time - SF Bay Photowalk 2013. This image is from a pre-breakfast solo shoot on the Monday morning after the Photowalk. After this session I met up with +Nathan Wirth , +Athena Carey , +Alan Allum and +John Kosmopoulos for breakfast and spent a wonderful day shooting around Pacifica and beyond with such amazing company.
This image is in the top 3 of my favorite images of the weekend. Seal Rock is such a famous scene and has been photographed a billion times. There is a small handful of photographers that have created some truly spectacular images of these famous rocks, for example +Steve-Maxx landeros and +Nathan Wirth!! This makes it extra difficult to come up with something unique, but not impossible :-) The conditions really were exceptional that morning, which made... more »

Another thanks to Steve for letting Albert and me stomp his comp...although I don't think this image looks anything like his beautiful capture from a similar area (thanks again, Bud) :-)

This is an image of the 101 California building, in the heart of the Financial District in San Francisco, California.
To me, this building is very symbolic of the financial might and the pursuit of the Capitalist dream, so engrained in the psyche of the Western world. No soap box involved in that statement, merely an observation :-)
For some of you that don't know, architecture photography is my other passion. I have amazing artists like +Joel Tjintjelaar , +kevin kwok , +Julia Anna Gospodarou , +Giles McGarry and +Klaus-Peter Kubik to thank for that, as their work continues to inspire me and blow my mind.
