This is a 30 second exposure of a beacon in Steveston, which is a great little fishing village in Richmond, British Columbia.

I used a 10 and a 3 stop ND filter, and stacked a 3 stop soft grad ND filter, to get the right level of contrast in the clouds and water.

Steveston is a really great little place to visit, with awesome fish and chips, if you stay away from the touristy spots :-)

Tofino is such a special place and is so awesome for long exposure seascapes. The clouds and light were perfect that day. I love long beach, as it has wonderful patterns in the sand and the ridges hold water at low tide, which creates a great mirror effect.

I used a 10 stop and 3 stop ND filter and a 3 stop hard grad ND filter, to get the right level of contrast and detail in the clouds, reflections and water.

"Lost Lake" - http://www.grantmurrayphotography.com/

This image was created on the shore of Lost Lake in Whistler, British Columbia.

It was a glorious Sunday afternoon in September 2012 and the weather Gods really were kind to me that day. It had been 35 degrees Celsius with blue sky for 4 days, which made my then 8 month pregnant wife a very unhappy camper. Thankfully the heat finally broke on the Sunday and the high was 16 degrees Celsius, which made being outside a pleasure.

The little flower (weed?) on the rock finally played ball and remained still for this exposure. The wind was pretty strong, so I had many aborted attempts before everything fell into place. Long Exposure photography requires a lot of zen like patience and just being out in nature is enough...an image or two you are happy with is the icing on the cake.

"In Solitude 2" - http://www.createwithlightphotography.com

A lone branch breaks the surface at Iona Beach in Vancouver, British Columbia.

As this is a special edition of the #MinimalMonday theme, I had to throw my hat in the ring. Thanks +Andrey Belkov for taking part!!

I spent a fun day out at Iona Beach in February with +Gavin Dunbar...thanks again for the company Gav!!

I used a 10 stop ND filter, plus a 3 stop hard grad ND filter to get the effect I was after.

This is my most minimal image to date and am pretty happy with how it came out!!

This really is as minimal as my photography gets for me...hopefully you like the result as much as I do :-)

ISO: 125
Aperture: f/8

"Train Tracks" - http://www.createwithlightphotography.com

This is a 25 second exposure of the fantastic 444 Market Street building in San Francisco, California.

The clouds finally arrived for a brief time in the early evening during the week I was there. I ventured out after my conference and had such a great photographic session. The light was awesome and the sun was in the perfect position to create the "train tracks" on the part of the 444 Market Street building. I love San Fran and can't wait to go back and see all my friends again.

For some of you that don't know, architecture photography is my other passion. I have amazing artists like +Joel Tjintjelaar , +kevin kwok,+Klaus-Peter Kubik and +Julia Anna Gospodarou to thank for that, as their work continues to inspire me and blow my mind.

"Four and a Half" - http://www.createwithlightphotography.com

Please view it LARGE on my website: http://tinyurl.com/chuy78z

This is a 78 second exposure of old pilings in the Strait of Georgia in Vancouver.

I used a 10 and a 3 stop ND filter, and stacked a 3 stop soft grad ND filter, to get the right level of contrast in the the clouds, water and around the piling.

This is the third image in my new series of numbered pilings.

The clouds and light were perfect that day and created a layer of light around the pilings at high tide.

The techie stuff:

ISO: 100
Aperture: f/11
Exposure: 78 seconds
Focal Length: 35mm
Filters: Hitech Pro 10 stop ND filter, Lee 3 stop hard and 3 stop soft grad ND filter

This is a 186 second exposure of Spanish Banks Beach in Vancouver at dusk.

I used a 10 stop ND filter, plus a 3 stop hard graduated ND filter to achieve the smoky sky and milky water.

Vancouver is such a special place and is so awesome for long exposure seascapes. The clouds and light were perfect that day, which makes it all worth while :-)

"Light the Way Home" - http://www.createwithlightphotography.com

Sorry for my lack of presence on G+ lately, but I have a great excuse...my daughter was born 11 days ago and that has been my focus, no pun intended :-) The sleep deprivation experiment has been waaaaay more successful than I ever thought possible, but she is totally worth it!!

This is a 50 second exposure of the landing lights on a pier at the end of runway 08L, which extends out onto the tidal flats of the Fraser River delta front in the Strait of Georgia in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The winds that day hit over 80km/h and I had to plant the tripod deeeeeep in the mud flats to get a long exposure without camera shake. Gitzo tripods and Really Right Stuff ballheads and L-Plates are an amazing combination, as I hope this image proves.

Our beautiful daughter, Sylvie Jasmine Murray, was born at 11:11pm on October 19th. She weighed in at 9.27 pounds (4.2kgs) and is 20.87 inches (53cm) in length. She is such a perfect little bundle of joy and we are thrilled beyond belief. We are home and Mom and baby are doing really well. Happy days and many wonderful adventures lie ahead. I can also confirm that having a newborn is a sleep deprivation experiment of the highest note :-)

Use search or just put a plus and the letter and go with the first suggestion.  I didn't allow duplicates, so if the same name came up a second time I chose the name one down.  ;)

"Financial District" - http://www.createwithlightphotography.com

This is an image of a part of the financial district, in San Francisco, California.

I ventured out after my conference and had such a great photographic session. There were no clouds that evening, but the angle of the sun was perfect for creating graduated tones in the sky and on the buildings. I am pretty darn proud of this image and really feel I am really progressing as an artist.

For some of you that don't know, architecture photography is my other passion. Two things of note...this is NOT a long exposure and this is NOT a black and white image!!! Don't faint people, I do create the odd color image with a higher shutter speed :-)

I spent this very early morning (the alarm went off at 04H00) in May 2012 fog hunting with the wonderful +Joe Azure ...it was a lot of fun and Joe was the perfect host (thanks again, Buddy) :-) I also got to spend a bit of that morning with +Toby Harriman, who is a super nice guy too. This is a 165 second exposure of of the horizon at Long Beach in Tofino on Vancouver Island.

I used a 10 and a 3 stop ND filter, and stacked a 3 stop hard grad ND filter, to get the right level of contrast in the clouds and water.

Tofino is such a special place and is so awesome for long exposure seascapes. The clouds and light were perfect that day and I am like a cat on a hot tim roof waiting for the them to return to Vancouver. We have had such an amazing summer, but there has hardly been a cloud in the sky for the last 3 months. That's great for the tourists, but sucks for LE photography...ho hum, you can't win 'em all :-) I love the way nature creates illusions. Clouds on or near the horizon often looks static, whilst... more »

"Sutro Stacks" - http://www.createwithlightphotography.com

This is a 105 second exposure of the famous Sutro Sea Stacks in San Francisco, California.

I was in San Francisco for a conference in early May and had the opportunity to spend a wonderful evening with my good friends, +Nathan Wirth   , +Steve-Maxx landeros  , +Ivan Makarov  and +Albert Tam   . As the conditions weren't ideal for long exposure (read as zero clouds), way more time was spent that evening at the Cliff House restaurant chatting, which is really what these meet-ups are all about. I got to know these guys even better and it was awesome to get their perspective on photography, life and the universe. Thanks for sparing the time guys, I had such a great time.

Sutro is a magical place and understandably has been photographed so many times from every possible angle and under all weather andtidal... more »
