Here's a Before and After of Pic Monkey editing effects I use to announce the Zombifying thing on Facebook.  Worst part about that software is that once it's saved, it's damn saved.  So there's no going back and tweaking the things that you notice later.  Grrrrrr.

This is one of two of my favorites from last year's Pic Monkey Zombie horde.  (Every year, for the month of October I zombify one of my facebook friend's profile pictures and release it each day.  There's always a point of infection.  And on Halloween, I put out the entire "army."  I start getting Zombify me requests in July.  lol).

All of the flowers, sunlight, and spring has woken my inner goth.  You would think that opposite, but no.  I walk the line between Hippie Bohemian and Gothique Chic.  When one gets too much airplay (like the string of flowers I've been posting), the other gets riled up like a demanding child.  It goes kind of like this:

Me:  what should I post... what should I post...

Boho: Ohhhh there's that groovy flower one.  You know... the one with that drinkable silvery bokeh?  Post that one!  Post that one!

Goth:  Yeah.  it can be Floral Friday every day of the week.  Because, you know, everyone wants spring and sunshine.  Who wants to see Zombies in May?  I mean, they just don't keep fresh in the hot summer sun.

Me:  smartass.

I had a stick of CareFree gum, but it didn't work. I felt pretty good while I was blowing that bubble, but as soon as the gum lost its flavor, I was back to pondering my mortality.

Biggest little has been really into fashion design. This semester she designed and sewed ( with her grandmother's help) her very first dress. She wore it to the opening of Vision/Revision at the Tucson Botanical Gardens today as its debut and was quite the hit. I'm very proud of her for really expressing her interests and learning in such a really cool way.

Happy #FloralFriday !!   I guess most of you have heard the news about a new team helping the AMAZING +Tamara Pruessner with curating this super huge theme.  I'm honored to be joining along with +Beth Akerman  and +Eustace James to help end the week with an explosion of blossoms.  This has always been one of my favorite themes - one I rarely miss playing along with.  But I had no idea until quite recently how many of you love it, too!  

So Happy Week, Blossoms.  I look forward to being showered in flowers all day long.

Today I get to take my work to show and say Thank You to a group of folks that awarded me with a scholarship.  This semester in Picture School completely changed my focus and direction.  I was able to determine my aesthetic and break it down on a level that really helps me stay in the Kiki lane when making work.  I can't wait to apply it to new projects and see if it holds true with new art that I create.  Doing a series in pendant was so rewarding, I've decided to continue that work and release a new line of 12 every six months or so.  I am so thankful for groups like Paperworks in Tucson that give support to artists like myself to continue working.  As someone who goes through a LOT of paper in a term, it was awesome to have that particular needed funded.

Now, to start gathering my Zombie necklace army.... (The halloween part of the year is closer than you think!)

So if you've been following me or my work, you're probably already aware of the Portals that have been my focus for the term.  Well, I'm thrilled to finally be able to say the Pendants and Prints for the Portal series are finished!  They've been uploaded to my site and are available for perusal and purchase.  Huzzah!!

Now I'm off to final #3 and to finish off the work for final #4 that's held tomorrow.  Almost there... (stay on target).

Scenes from Picture School:  Final Work Week.

I'm mostly printmaking and doing 19th century printing all week long.  Every spare second.  except this one, because I'm procrastinating going in.  But you get it.

This is what yesterday yielded  in printmaking.  About 18 little zombiettes.  (forgive the cell phone crop - they're quite rectangular prints.  Like 4x6's).

My hands are quite dirty already and it's just Tuesday morning.  Miles to go before I zzzzzzzzzz.

I'm hanging this show today.  It's for a dear friend of mine and a VERY talented photographer.  I'm especially fond of his street and urban work, and this show is 100% both.  It's a two day pop up,so if you're in downtown Tucson at all tomorrow or saturday, come by and see us.  The work is totally worth peeping.

So my life has been consumed with finals.  I'm trying to post, but honestly, when you take four art classes, when finals come around  you're expected to show up with four bodies of work.  And that takes ridiculous amounts of time (and procrastination and then scramble).  In three weeks, I'll annoy the crap out of you with skulls and blossoms again I promise.  

What I'm working on is my lighting final - a commercial based book featuring product shots of the fine art pendant series I produced this term.  "The Portals: her soul bird flies between" is a collection of 13 worlds that I built out of layered original photographic capture.  Inspired by meditations and conversations I have with the birds in my life, I made them to remind us all that there are still sparks of magic in our everyday all around us.  If you've been following along this term with my posts,well - ... more »
