On the south coast of Iceland there are some very dramatic peaks, not so high, but very imposing. I parked up off the side of the road and made my way up this ravine, somehow fascinated by the graphics of this mountain.

The dynamic range was huge and I bracketed many images, about 9.

In the end I have only used two, with the help of a nice mask created in Topaz ReMask - my now go to tool for creating layer masks.

Having lived in China for 13 years, it is great to be moving back to Scotland. I took this image a few months back when I was over house hunting - the classic Scottish view, the entrance to Glencoe.

The image above was taken from Vermilion Lake in Banff way back in 2004 and it was my very first night image. I’ll confess I knew nothing about taking landscape images at night, but I decided there and then that I was going to learn everything I could about this fascinating branch of Landscape Photography.

I made it my mission to study everything I could find, and at the time, that wasn’t a lot.

What I couldn’t research I worked out for myself, thousands of hours out at night, slowly working at it by trial and error.

Hi Everyone
I've been inspired by Alistair's images and after reading his eBook I thought I would give night photography a serious go. I made this image a couple of nights ago, it is made up of 150 x 30 second exposures.
Personally I don't think its that good, there isn't a point of interest for the eye to rest on but it was my first serious attempt and I was concentrating on capturing the reflections rather than a great composition. However it must have something as it got over 4000 views on Flickr in just 24 hours, so I thought I would share it with you.

The far trees were 'light painted' using a powerful torch to add a bit of additional interest rather than have them just rendered as silhouette.
