I do not think I quite have the hang of the new google photo features. Organizing stuff it what is getting confusing. I added this to my dragonfly album, but when I tried to post to my stream it put the image in its own album.

Anyhow, I am looking forward to seeing some of these little dragons again soon. I like to go dragon hunting. This is one of my trophies.

Drunk and/or food coma?
This is a bald faced hornet (Dolichovespula maculata). It is alive and untouched by me. It is feeding on fermented fruit that falls from trees in my yard. This is a single, uncropped image.

These critters are typically very aggressive and their sting is not fun. For the past decade however, I have been putting my cameras and inch or two from their faces and taking pictures like this one. My question is why are they so docile while feeding like this? Is it the alcohol in the fermented fruit or just the fact that they have eaten so much or both?

They hang around the bananas in your kitichen that are too ripe ;)
This guy is about 2 to 2.5 mm long, so you can imagine how tiny that little face is.

They are aggressive critters. They are funny though when then get engorged/drunk on fermented fruit ;) and it is only at this time that I will stick my lens within an inch or two of their face to get a shot like this.
