It has come time to say goodbye. I am moving on from Google and the Google+ Your Business page. Fear not. You’re in good hands with +Jade Wang and the rest of the Google+ Your Business Team!
It’s been quite the ride. Since launching Google+ Pages we’ve seen businesses doing some pretty incredible things. So, some parting thoughts on the way out:
1. The businesses that do the best on Google+ are the ones that invest in relationships with customers, influencers, and peers.
2. Hangouts are magical. Use them.
3. There are so many people out there in Google+, regular users and small business owners, who want to help you. They have tips and tricks and experience. They put countless hours into answering questions and writing best practices. They’re the real experts; we learn from them every day.
4. Google is lucky to have s... more »

You've probably noticed the new format for "What's hot", the stream that collects and shares the most popular content from across Google+. Did you know that you can adjust the frequency with which this content appears in your stream?
1. Click "What's hot" on the left side of your home screen, beneath the list of your circles.
2. Use the slider in the top right of the window to adjust the volume!
It's as easy as that, giving you more control of the content you see on Google+.

Adjust the volume of "What's hot" in your main stream
#googleplusupdate #whatshot
A few months ago we launched “What's hot”, an always-fresh collection of interesting posts on Google+ (http://goo.gl/6qhVu). We later launched volume "sliders,” letting you decide how much or how little individual circles contribute to your overall stream (http://goo.gl/wrHDD).
Today, and thanks to your feedback, we're bringing these two features together. This way you can control how many "What's hot" posts appear in your main stream on Google+ -- from most, to some, to none at all.
Whenever hot posts do appear in your stream, we'll label them accordingly. And if you're ever in the mood to only see hot posts, you can always click on "What's hot" in the left-hand navigation menu.
We're rolling out t... more »

Toward a more inclusive naming policy for Google+
With Google+, we aspire to make online sharing more like sharing in the real world. And during the Google+ signup process, we've asked users to select the name they commonly use in real life.
Since launch we've listened closely to community feedback on our names policy, as well as reviewed our own data regarding signup completion. The vast majority of users sail through our signup process -- in fact, only about 0.1% submit name appeals.
When we analyze the set of all name appeals on Google+, we find that they generally fall into three major categories:
- The majority (60%) of these users want to simply add nicknames.
- About 20% of appeals are actually businesses (who are inadvertently trying to set up their business as a Profile, rather than using Google+ Pages which were intended for this purpose.)... more »

Adding funny text to photos
Adding a few words can turn a silly photo into a ROFL, or draw attention to what you find most interesting. Today we're rolling out a feature that makes it easier to add big, bold text on top of your photos.
To try it out, drop a photo into the sharebox on Google+, then click the "Add text" button underneath the photo. Type in something funny, then share and enjoy.
This feature will be rolling out over the next few days -- I hope you enjoy it! :) We'll be keeping our eyes on the stream for the funniest examples, so have fun! #funwithphotos #googleplusupdate

I've seen some questions about why we are removing the "Incoming" stream today, so I thought I'd give some details behind our thinking.
The "Incoming" stream was a part of Google+ from the very start and it served an important purpose at the time to help people discover others on Google+. Since then however we've added a suggested user list, What's Hot, the ability to share circles and in-product search with saved searches. We've also greatly improved our friend suggestion algorithms. These changes all served the same purpose that incoming originally did: connecting people.
Based on your feedback and our user research, we learned that the "Incoming" stream was a very confusing part of Google+. Not surprisingly, this feedback was reflected in very low usage of the "Incoming" stream compared to the rest of Google+, so we... more »

Holiday Public Service Announcement
Have a lot of people circled you? Are you a verified user? Are you a heavy user of Google products? Do you use your Google account to log into various websites around the web?
If you said yes to any of these questions, chances are, you will eventually be a target of a hijacker. Better to take out some insurance now rather than wish you did after it's too late. That insurance is 2-step verification. 2-step verification drastically reduces the chances of having the personal information in your Google account stolen by someone else. Why? Because in addition to your username and password, you'll now enter a code that Google will send you via text or voice message upon signing in. That means hackers would have to not only get your password and your username, they'd have to get a hold of your phone as well. Not... more »

Real-time search and improved hashtag support
Today we're rolling out two new features: 1) real-time search results; and 2) improved hashtag support. Together, we're trying to make it easier to follow and contribute to live events on Google+, including breaking news, sporting events, and many others.
Real-time search
Now when you search in Google+, you'll see a message about new posts the instant they're available. If you click on this message, or select "Most recent", then relevant posts will start appearing in real-time.
Improved hashtag support
People have long used hashtags to mark their posts with certain topics -- just ask our very own +Chris Messina, hashtag inventor. You don't have to use hashtags on Google+ (search works fine without them), but when you do, we'll automatically link to search results.
