Arc de Triomphe at Night
This was a drizzly night, and after I set up my tripod I couldn't find the plate to attach the tripod to the camera. So I improvised by trying to hold the camera steady on the tripod - didn't come out too bad. Right after this I had to run as it started to rain more heavily...

Canal de los Tempanos, Perito Moreno Glacier, Patagonia, Argentina
This a view of the Canal de los tempanos, seen from the Brazo Rico of Lago Argentino. As the glacier is actually moving forward an average of 2.1m/day, it eventually reaches the rocks on the right (it takes longer because it is also losing big chunks of ice which are constantly falling with a loud crack). When this happens, the Brazo Rico gets cut off from the main lake, and its level starts to rise as melted ice flows into it. Eventually, the pressure of the water, and the movement of the glacier, start eroding the walls along the canal, first drilling a hole at the bottom, which grows until the whole structure collapses spectacularly, opening the canal again. Then the cycle restarts.

After hiding behind the clouds most of the day, it finally appeared as we were leaving El Chalten. Cerro Torre can be seen to the left. It had been a very overcast, cloudy day, which cleared gradually towards the evening.

This is the starting point to the glacier trekking tours. The people on the glacier give a good feel for its scale, and this is not the larger part!
By the way, the people on the leftmost group in the center are having a glass of whisky with glacier ice just before leaving the glacier, already a tradition ;-).

A beaver dam in Isla Navarino, Patagonia, Chile
Beavers were introduced in Patagonia in the hopes of producing furs, but it failed, so they were released into the wild. Growing unchecked, they now cause a lot of destruction on this island in Patagonia, Chile, north of Cape Horn.
Notice how the trees around the dam were completely torn down by a couple of beavers; the bigger trees here are a couple of hundred years old!
This dam is on the hills behind Wulaia Bay, which was visited by Chales Darwin aboard the Beagle, under Robert Fitzroy.

One of the good things about rain (especially when it's over) are the puddles where on can catch interesting reflections - I'm always on the lookout for them.
This one was caught right by the Altare dell Patria (the Vittorio Emanuelle monument) looking towards Piazza Venezia, the camera was practically lying on the ground for this one.

Perito Moreno Glacier panorama
This glacier site near El Calafate, Patagonia, Argentina offers spectacular, "in your face" views, where one can appreciate its size and grandeur. Even in misty, drizzly weather, it is still impressive.
This section is the Canal de los tempanos, connecting two branches (Brazo Rico to the left, main branch on the right) of Lago Argentino. Shades of blue
This is what you see when you look into one of the cracks or crevasses in a glacier - extremely transparent melted ice, which becomes more blue as it deepens.
Can you tell where the water surface is?
