Raymond Duke2,369I only use one circle for people I add on G+. This is it. Unfortunately, due to G+'s shortcomings, only 500 people are allowed. Maybe one day they will open it up to more, like Twitter did recently with shared lists. Why do I use just one circle?Because I treat everyone the same. If you are on the internet, it doesn't matter what you do. We are all equal on the web. Our conversations and interactions will determine the context of our relationship, not how I categorize you. 2013-06-20 16:03:47500315CC G+
Nina Pelletier11,765I have been requested to share my writers circle many times over the last year, but I never felt right doing it. After 2 emails I received yesterday asking so kindly that I share it yet again, I figured it's time to do so.I have over 500 writers in my writers circle because, hey, that's why I'm here right? But sadly only 500 of them can be shared at once. So you won't get all of the wonderful writerly people I have met on this lovely world we call Google+, but here are 500 of them.  Enjoy and share. If I've missed any writers, please feel free to add them in the comments below.Thank you to this awesome community of literary quirkiness and genius. ♥  #writershelpingwriters   #writers  2012-09-12 15:13:0750121411CC G+
Meilani MacDonald2,935Small Business circle 1 of 2Hello small business peeps! I'm a small biz person and naturally I want to connect with other small biz owners. I really feel we all have so much to share with each other and to learn from one another as we navigate this world called Google+ that provides us with so many great tools and resources to support our small biz efforts. I also think it's a good thing to support each other, and lift each other up as we work towards our goals. So I've been collecting small biz people and shared small biz & entrepreneurs circles, because those are the people I most want in my own circles, to follow, to connect with, and to support. I have 700+ small bizzes in my circle, so I've split it into two circles to share with you. This is #1 of the 2, and #2 is next. Let's hear it for small business!Btw, speaking of supporting small bizzes, I host a TGIF Biz Networking Hangout every Friday at 4pm pst, now a Hangout on Air. It is a chance to give yourself and your biz a little promo, and I feature special guests who are small biz owners and who have all kinds of good advice and info to share with other small biz owners. Please check my profile for more info or to watch last Friday's episode, where we talked about QR codes and great ideas for how to use them, and also talked about the value of keeping content fresh on your blogs and web sites, and when and why to blog, or not to blog. #smallbusiness #sharedcircles #entrepreneur +CircleCount +Shared Circles Shared a Circle with You +Shared a Circle with you2012-05-28 18:22:494491159CC G+
Rob Gordon22,157*Entrepreneurs, Self-Employed & Small Business OwnersUPDATED SHARED CIRCLE: Part 1 of 2: A through L (by last name).Link to Part (M-Z):         http://goo.gl/0Fcg1Link to Supplemental 1: http://goo.gl/AXXrWLink to Supplemental 2: http://goo.gl/TZKKeLike to Supplemental 3: http://goo.gl/3x6hINOTE:  This circle is no longer maintained in its present form but is still a good place to start if you are looking for entrepreneurs to follow and connect with here.  It has mostly been replace with a Google+ community of the same name that you can find at http://goo.gl/ejG9P**********************This is the most recent update to the popular "entrepreneurs" circle that posted a few months ago. As you can see, it has gotten bigger than 500 people so I have had to split it alphabetically into two parts. These two circles includes the self employed, small business owners, independent contractors, small startup companies and pretty much anyone trying to make it outside of the traditional economy. This is different from the other business circles of this type in that it doesn't include too many of the "celebrity entrepreneurs" and instead has mostly people with their own business or venture. There are more than 800 people here, but this has been reviewed extensively since it was last published -lots of fantastic new people have been added, and some have been dropped - mostly because they don't interact much. The end result is a circle of really awesome business people who actively interact with others here and have a small business or entreprenueral mindset. This is a really diverse group and includes entrepreneurs of all stripes - some have well established ventures and are wildly successful, others are just getting started and haven't made it yet. As can be expected, it is a little tech heavy, but represents most industries and many different types of business. There are even a handful of people here who have traditional jobs, but seem to have an interest in small business issues and always seem welcome to help entrepreneurial efforts. The people in these circles post all manner of things - not just business, but all are smart and interesting people so I recommend that you check this out.I do want to add the disclaimer that this is in no way "definitive" - there are millions of entrepreneurs on Google+ and this is just a tiny fraction of them - the ones I have curated. It seems that about two seconds after I publish this I always remember someone I should have included so just me know if you think you should be here. I republish this periodically and generally add everyone who comments on the post.As with all circles of this size I would use some discretion in adding this - either update your existing circle, pick and choose the ones you like or use these as a trial circles - whatever works for you. I'm not even sure Google will let you add all this many names at once so you may have to come back if you want to add all of them. The technology for this is not perfect, but I am trying to do my part to help build a highly interconnected community of entrepreneurs here on Google+.I hope you find the people in this circle interesting.RobReshares welcome and appreciatedIMPORTANT: You don't want to follow people based on where their last name fits in the alphabit do you? Make sure you also take a look at the second part of this list:LINK TO PART II (M-Z): http://goo.gl/0Fcg1#smallbusiness2012-04-18 18:49:234401197169CC G+

Alex Diaz (alexdiazeco)2,406I call this one IdeasThat's how interesting these folks are to engage with. As with the green circle I just shared, this one's bigger than 500 so not everyone is here. And just as with the greenies, let us know if you think you should be in it. The common denominator here is interesting content of no particular bent. Just plain fascinating. I can sit and go through this stream all day. Great people one and all.2012-04-07 19:19:005002234CC G+

Meilani MacDonald1,201If the Circle Fits, Share It! - Entrepreneurs, Freelancers and Small BusinessWow, where to begin? This is exactly the circle I was looking for: entrepreneurs, freelancers and small business. I'll begin with a thanks to +Rahul Roy, whose always helpful posts of resources for new and wanting to be more active plussers pointed the way to www.CircleCount.com. That site turned out to be a great resource for finding shared circles defined by interest. There, I found +Rob Gordon's awesome entrepreneurs, freelancers and small business circle. I know it's a quality circle, as I noticed many of the folks in it are already in my circles, and I generally circle people who make posts I find to be useful, educational and enlightening. I hope you will find them as useful and enlightening as I have! #smallbusiness #freelance #professional #entrepreneur2012-03-24 00:26:5250111715CC G+
Rob Gordon18,830Entrepreneurs, Self Employed & Small Business. This is the latest update to my shared circle for "entrepreneurs" which includes the self employed, small business owners, independent contractors, small startup companies and pretty much anyone trying to make it outside of the traditional economy. This is different from the other business circles of this type in that it doesn't include too many of the "celebrity entrepreneurs" and instead has mostly people with their own small business or venture. Lots of time has been spent organizing this since it was first published - many new people have been added, and some have been dropped - mostly because they don't interact much. The end result is a circle of interesting business people who actively interact with others here and have a small business or entreprenueral mindset. I do want to add the disclamer that this is in no way "definitive" - there are millions of entrepreneurs on Google+ and these are just the ones I have curated. This still probably doesn't even include everyone in my own circles who are entrepreneurs or self employed so let me know if you want to be included. I republish this about once per month. This is a really diverse group of people that includes entrepreneurs of all stripes - some have well established ventures, some have startups that are just getting going and some are wildly successful. There are even a handful of people here who have traditional jobs, but seem to have an interest in entrepreneurial and small business issues. The professionals in this circle post all manner of things - not just business, but all are smart and interesting people so I recommend that you at least take a look. As with any circle of this size I would use some discretion in adding this - either pick and choose the ones you like or use it as a trial circle - whatever method works for you. I also recently learned that you can save circles to your Google contacts so you can save this information there even if you don't want to use this toward your 5000 limit. I hope you find the people in this circle interesting. I certainly do. RobReshares welcome and appreciated#sharedcircles#smallbusiness #entrepreneurs #startup2012-03-13 20:32:12500663852CC G+
Rob Gordon13,043Entrepreneurs & Freelancers. This is my circle for self described Entrepreneurs and Freelancers - which includes the self employed, small business owners, independent contractors, small startup companies and pretty much anyone trying to make it outside of the traditional economy. As I said before, I don't want to pretend that this list is definitive or even close to being complete. There are millions of entrepreneurs on Google+ and there are many circles of entrepreneurs that have already been shared - these are just the ones I have curated in my own circle. This probably doesn't even include everyone in my own circles who are entrepreneurs or self employed as it is almost impossible to go through everyone's profile. Just let me know if I have inadvertently left you out - I will be posting this in the circles database sometime soon. Feel free to reshare, but as with any shared circle, I do recommend some discretion in adding a circle of this size to your stream. This one might be a little different in that it doesn't include too many of the "celebrety entrepreneurs" that are common in other shared circles here- though there are a few. For the most part hese are real small business owners or people or with an entrepreneural mindset, and there are lots of smart people here. #entrepreneur #smallbusiness2012-01-06 22:47:1539942514CC G+

Has anyone else noticed the bait & switch going on in the articles that claim that not raising the debt ceiling won't lead to default? Here's where it happens:

"Treasury Secretary Jack Lew says the U.S. has "no option" if the $16.7 trillion debt ceiling isn't raised in the next two weeks, suggesting that the U.S. would have to default on its debts. Not true. The U.S. has more than enough money to pay interest on its debts."

Note that last sentence:

"The U.S. has more than enough money to pay interest on its debts."

Note this part of it:
"to pay interest on"

I'd ask everyone who believes it's not a default when you fail to pay your principal to call any creditor at all, and ask what would happen if you stopped paying the principal on your mortgage/car loan/credit card/other debt... more »

This has to be one of the best science Kickstarters I have ever seen.
It is bringing back the original chemistry set in all of it's potentially dangerous glory.
With that being said, as one of the last kids to receive a real chemistry sets before the safety craziness took hold for science education kits, I have to applaud the effort.

This however is the real thing. If you ever wanted to give your budding scientist a chem set, this is it.

My son has been interested in robotics since he was 13. He's now 16 and he and his Dad are building a quad-copter (slowly). He would LOOOVE to be able to focus on the code, instead of the hardware. He taught himself JAVA so he could learn to code collision detection, and now he's learning pathing algorithms, because he wants to be able to make a copter fly autonomously (no remote control) and avoid obstacles. He just got an internship with a makerspace in Cambridge, MA, where he'll be working with some folks from MIT to develop a "DIY drone building" class, based in part on his experience thus far. We live in the mountains of VT, so he'd be shooting local scenery, his obstacle courses, and probably a bunch of crashes! If it helps any, I there's a spot with 7 bald eagles nearby, so we could probably film them (from a safe distance) from a neighboring farm, if they hang around... more »

Hmmm... Looks like the paleo diet's not so paleo after all:
“The notion that we have not yet adapted to eat wheat, yet we have had sufficient time to adapt to kale or lentils is ridiculous. In fact, for most practitioners of the Paleo Diet, who are typically westerners, the majority of the food they consume has been available to their gene pool for less than five centuries. Tomatoes, peppers, squash, potatoes, avocados, pecans, cashews, and blueberries are all New World crops, and have only been on the dinner table of African and Eurasian populations for probably 10 generations of their evolutionary history. Europeans have been eating grain for the last 10,000 years; we’ve been eating sweet potatoes for less than 500. Yet the human body has seemingly adapted perfectly well to yams, letalone... more »

Google has launched a person finder for survivors of Typhoon Haiyan known as Yolanda in the Philippines, where friends and family can search for information on a loved one or enter information about a person's whereabouts so others know they are safe.

Private aid groups said there was an immediate need for rice, canned foods, clean water, medicine, clothes, shelter and blankets. But U.S. officials said that, just as in other disasters, the best thing Americans can do is donate cash to reputable humanitarian organizations.

Google Services Replacements I Recommend

So long to my beloved Google Reader, so now I use Protopage for my RSS feeds:
http://www.protopage.com/
Why I am disgusted with feedly.com:  the mandatory login with Google adds steps and feedly itself ties into the Google data collection behemoth

So long to my beloved iGoogle home page which held all my most valued widgets like weather, RSS, calender, favorite websites, etc.  Now I use Protopage for this as well

So long to Google Search:  when I am logged into a Google service, my search is interrupted by ads and clogged with Google+ posts that mention my search terms.  In addition, about a year ago my google searches became cluttered with "popular" and shopping sites listed in the top results.  Now I use duckduckgo.com an anonymous search service that is awesome!

Our Halloween-o-thon Film Slam entry won 2nd Place Overall, 2nd Place Audience Choice, and Best Screenplay! LittlePollyPlaymate

The film was written, filmed, and edited for public showing in two weekends. Teams were given a basic narrative to include in all the films: getting lost in the woods, taking shelter by a fallen log, and remembering a great grandfather's spooky story. Additional rules included: no blood, no gore, no violence, and no swearing.

Now to figure out how to get the lighting settings on both cameras to match, since their light levels were way out of synch, despite looking the same through the viewfinders and having exposure levels set the same.

Who didn't see this coming? (Hint: a bunch of idiots in the republican party.)

"The prolonged negotiations over raising the debt ceiling ... risks undermining confidence in the role of the U.S. dollar as the preeminent global reserve currency, by casting doubt over the full faith and credit of the U.S.," Fitch said in laying out its reasons for the possible downgrade. "This 'faith' is a key reason why the U.S. 'AAA' rating can tolerate a substantially higher level of public debt than other 'AAA' sovereigns."

One question: why our schools' administrations are so full of idiots and jackasses?
Rhetorical question, I know.
What will be next? Suspension and punishment because student has to walk past a liquor store and school has "zero brains tolerance policy" against alcohol?
Disgusting.

This isn't great news, even though Chrome users are better protected since Acrobat / Flash run inside sandboxes. Still, quite concerning.

US Capitol Lockdown
(Note: Noting is confirmed, yet, by the police, so take the following with a grain of salt)
The story as reported thus far: someone tried to run through the NE security gate at the White House. When the driver failed, they took off toward 2nd street, apparently hitting a police officer along the way, then running into the median strip. The driver was shot.

Popular Science Magazine has found that allowing reader comments on scientific articles causes readers to misunderstand the science more than they would without the reader comments. So, off they go.
