Look, loveys, I understand the site of terrible storm damage looks simply awful.  Powerful acts of nature tend to do that.

But can we (pretty, pretty, please) come up with a different descriptive phrase than "like a war zone"?

War zones tend to have burnt bomb craters and scattered shell casings and bodies that have evidence of being raped, stabbed, mutilated, shot, and affected by all other manner of human caused atrocities.

Damage from the ice storm that tore up my Dad's place in 2011 looked much more like damage from an ice storm than a 'war zone'.  Trees were left twisted, torn, and shredded.  Homes were bombarded with debris.  Power lines were yanked free of their tethers.

Storm damage from Katrina looked much more like severe hurrican damage than a 'war zone'.  It was soggy, debris-covered, drowned.

So, 9 oranges an 7 tangerines to be made into a marmalade flavored with clove, cinnamon, cracked black pepper -- whole to infuse, powdered cardamom and ginger, some allspice, bay leaf, maybe some fenugreek. 

How's that sound? I'll report, but am curious what you think of the concept.

Hi. Been busy. 

Thursday: Up at 4 AM, drove most of 200 miles round trip to take a fiend somewhere. Stop at Dunkin' on the way home for 2 veggie flatbreads, a dozen donuts and a giant iced coffee. Ate several donuts through the day. Premier of team Discordian Films' 48 Hour Film Project Entry at 1900 at the AFI Silver. Shared some french fries in front of the cinema. Had a wine and a Toblerone at the cinema. Home late, helped feed K. A bad food day for me. 

Friday, up at 10, straight to the kitchen. Chopped an onion, 4 small cloves of garlic and a small bunch of Kale. Chopped 2 roma tomatoes to go with the 2.5 already chopped. Added the 0.25 chopped mall green pepper to the bowl with the onion and garlic. (I'm a fan of mise en place for cooking.) Pot of water on to boil for spaghetti. Hot side of medium pan. Well, brought Feldspar to the new place tonight. Our room is downstairs. She came exploring upstairs, where i am for now. Lightning, the incumbent cat, awoke, and started back toward her food and litter box as Feldspar was coming back out. The stopped some ways apart, both puffed, and stared. I picked up Feldspar, who started hissing lightly, and set her on the stairs, and she went back downstairs. This meeting will need to go slowly, and K and i will need to spend some time downstairs to keep her happy. House transitions are always trying for a cat, though no less so when you introduce a female to a home with a female in it. So far so good. I do wonder how it would have played out had i not stepped in. Hay de ver...

Trivia:  What type of burn is a sunburn?
Answer:  It's a radiation burn.

Sunlight contains ultraviolet (UV) rays.  These rays cause direct DNA damage in prolonged contact with skin, a living tissue.  DNA damage prompts both tanning, the body's protection response, and burning, tissue destruction.

Fairer skin is prone to damage in a shorter period of time, but all human skin burns if unprotected and exposed for too long to sunlight.

Cancerous tissue can result when direct DNA damage is improperly repaired.  (Hint:  Any time you increase the body's need to repair and replace cells, you increase the chance for a cancerous outcome.  Smoking damage to mouth, throat and lung tissue.  Alcohol damage to mouth, throat and stomach tissue.  Sun damage to skin tissue.)

So, Influenced, our horror (assigned genre) film for the 48 Hour Film Project DC, got submitted on time for juried judging, and will be shown at 19:00 on Thursday the 9th at the AFI Silver in Silver Spring, MD.

Tickets went on sale today and will sell out. Our team will be there, maybe see some of the rest of yall there too.

It was called Thonis by ancient Egyptians, and Heracleion by ancient Greeks. Used up the produce on the edge today.

Broccoli, carrot, and red pepper with ginger and a half teaspoon of chili powder in a sauce of one quarter cup each of shao xing and soy sauce, two tablespoons of better than bullion veggie base, one and a half tablespoons of Huy Fong chili garlic sauce, water to bring volume to two and a half cups, a couple tablespoons of cornstarch, and I crumbled in one block of Chinese tofu. It's rich, gingery, a slight bit of heat, and garnished with toasted sesame seeds.
