Do You Believe Everything You Read?
Today I took a small road trip with the family to Innisfree Gardens in Millbrook, NY. First time I'd been and I was determined rain or shine. A beautiful place and one I'll have to go back to when there are some blue skies. This is one I decided would make a good Selfy Sunday submission.

This was my submission for Ant's Eye View to the March 2012 Scavenger hunt. I was thriiled to receive a Third place for this from +Brian Bonham . I've found that it is not easy to put your foot in front of you on the edge of a cliff puddle and compose a shot, but it is challenging and fun.
Hope your weekend is going well. Make sure you check out the album. Incredible work...

I saw this guy strutting his stuff while at Wickham Park, Manchester, CT. Had to use my phone right up against the fence to take the shot since the wire fencing was in the way of a clear shot.

Loved looking through those other brown submissions from the awesome Scavengers. This was my entry. There wasn't much color during the month of March so I thought I would definitely have a bit of woods in my brown shot. This looked good in monochrome so I when that way and applied an overlay of the what seems a good choice for a brown photo and masked in the white snow to keep in clean.
The other part of this photo was in the execution. I put the camera next to a puddle on the ground to get this reflection and give the 2-3 foot long puddle the look of something much bigger.
Make sure you check out the "Brown" album...

Day six of the March 2013 +Chrysta Rae's Photography Scavenger Hunt is here and the theme is Landscape.
To see this awesome album go here: https://plus.google.com/u/0/113977984500465768287/posts/jgQC3F8Xs7V
This was my submission. I took quite a few "traditional" landscape shots during my hiking travels during the month of March. One day I happened to have my oculus with me when I walked by a wonderfully mossy leaf covered tree stump. The bonus was the sunlight was hitting it quite nicely. So, I put it down on the stump, found an angle I liked and focused the best I could on the stump nearest the center bottom of the glass. Three auto-bracketed exposures, blended manually with layer masks in photoshop, a bit of sharpening, adjustments, etc...

Day five of the reveals for the March 2013 Scavenger hunt. The theme for this set was freeze motion. I actually was having a lot of fun with the strawberries the first day the list was out and considered trying to use them in each of the ten themes since it was easy to think of something for each one.
This shot is actually a composite of two consecutive shots. I liked the splash, but he bottom looked too empty so I worked with a layer mask and pulled in the water from the capture from a second later. Just wish I'd use a completely white or black background instead of the wet towel I was using throughout the process :)
Check out the rest of shots in this fantastic album here...

Passing Tulips
Something I took today. It was a rainy/cloudy day most of the day, but I refused to stay inside the whole day. I saw a break in the rain on the radar so we went to Elizabeth Park in West Hartford to see how things were looking.

Something from across the street one evening...
The last couple months I've been looking at different tutorials that show you how to add light rays and such in photoshop. I find it is not easy to make it look like this. I think I much prefer it when it happens like it did in this instance: in camera, but I'll still work on improving that skill just in case I need it :)

This is a sunflower I saw while touring a colleges a couple Augusts ago. Not sure how I ended up in this particular day's folder for my morning post processing practice, but as I was going through it I noticed this one that I took just at the end of the Noon hour. It seems the most photography articles concerning lighting always recommend against doing this. I find if you turn down the Exposure Value on the camera a bit you might get lucky. It was just too nice a flower to pass up and also the first time I'd actually seen one while having a camera in hand. Just wish I'd been able to get closer :)
Have a good day everyone!

Still 3 minutes to go in my time-zone and I found something in the kitchen that seemed like a challenge. When I get a chance I like to play with the speedlight in the dark at the dining room table. It's especially challenging to use a flashlight to focus, shut it off and then click the shutter release with one hand without moving the other :o)
Happy weekend everyone. Can't wait to see what you've all posted.

The first album reveal for the March 2013 edition of the +Chrysta Rae's Photography Scavenger Hunt has begun. This category was Strawberry. I had a hard time keeping strawberries in the house before the kids would eat them, but I got a few shots in before it was too late. It helped that they wouldn't eat the ones I dropped on the floor as well (My first time trying this). Just had to watch out for the dog with those ;-)

It looks like if you have an account you can vote on multiple images.

Almost There
I was thinking back to the early G+ days after a bit of conversation with +lane langmade & +Lauri Novak today. I decided to look at some of the photos I'd posted back in August 2011 and think about why I hike as often as I can to some of the same places. I came across this one and it sums it up pretty nicely. It's two miles to reach the spot just beyond those trees. Once past that tree line it's a breathtaking vista where you can see south east to south west and more. Now that I’ve reach this spot I want to keep coming back on the chance that the sunlight will be doing what you see in this picture. More or less I’d just say the sun is an irresistible muse.
This photo when posted previously was processed with photomatix and done(5 minutes maybe?). When I took a look at it today I decided to redo it as I would today. 3 exposures, aligned in photosh... more »

Standing Shell 2012
I took a drive today to shoot some farm scenes and ended up visiting Edisto Island, SC to see what effects Hurricane #Sandy had on the beach there.
There was a lot of erosion and tons of broken shells along the shore.
The wind was blowing sand everywhere but I took some quick shots with the Canon G1X of a couple of interesting broken shells I found.
This is completely #SOOC with no post-processing and in-camera BW and 1:1 cropping. I used the popup flash and it was shot in mid-day sun (note the harsh shadows)

Just wanted to wish +Gene Bowker a very happy birthday! I had the pleasure of meeting Gene up here on G+ for a while now and had the pleasure of getting to know him better during the +G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers program. He is a stand up guy and his artistic work is excellent. He also loves trains (if you didn't know ;-)
This is the Essex Steam Train. I was driving home from the beach one day and saw this scene and a crowd of photographers with tripods, etc taking shots. I of course made a quick u-turn. First time I'd attempted any train photo and it was not easy finding an angle without a tripod in it. Not sure they wanted me on the tracks, but... :o)

Big Tree at Harkness Memorial State Park
This tree is huge and has the most interesting features. There is a branch on the bottom that you can lay down on and look up. This is basically the angle of that view. (my wife had the good spot :)

My take on this weeks theme. Something out there is moving pretty fast...
This was a little over 45 minutes of 25 second exposures merged with StarStax (free program), converted into b/w with Silver Efex, and a bunch of clarity in Lightroom

This is my Gratitude Circle
If you received a Notification about this, then you are in it!

First of all, I'd like to thank +Jari Huomo from whom I borrowed this idea. He posted a similar Circle Share last June ( http://goo.gl/zWn2t ), and regrettably it has taken me far too long to finally put mine together. Please allow me to apologize in advance if I accidentally left someone out who regularly engages here on my page.
This was a labor of love, as I tried not only to include those that I have regular conversations with here on my own page, but who also are all actively engaging their followers on their own pages. This is also the first time ever that I curated a circle myself.
Many of these people you probably already have in your Circles, and might recognize from some of the following activities:
