I made a blog about the new Star Trek movie, which turned into a few cultural observations and I wanted to share it:

You are officially mildly spoiled if you read below, NO COMPLAINTS!

Up front I will say I enjoyed this latest Star Trek movie a lot.  It was super noisy, but enjoyable, beautifully executed, and I particularly like some of the secondary characters, Spock was excellent, etc etc.  I just want to share an observation that stuck with me:

Where are the women?  The strong women?  The women we’d like to see in 200 years?  Where are they in this world?  They certainly aren’t around the roundtable when the Starfleet are learning about Khan (there might have been one in that scene, if so that extra was not cut to in any significant manner to be notable.)  In the scene where Kirk gets his ship back and the admiral is having a meeting with “important”people around ... more »

This animal was never abused and saved from euthanasia at birth due to a birth defect. In fact, this shows a dog trainer who successfully taught their dog how to walk due to the defect and the dog appears very happy.

The New Google+ Interface: Sharing A Photo Album

The album I recently shared about the insect hotel was the first I''d done since yesterday''s Google+ user interface change. It took a few minutes to work through the details of it, but what I found was that it''s different from before and once you figure it out it''s better than it was. Rather than have you have to go through the same discovery process, I figured I''d share the steps I went through. This assumes you have some pictures you took with your phone using Instant Upload, but the process is really similar for pictures on the computer, too. (The numbered instructions correspond to the photos attached to this post.)

1. Select Photos from the left-side selection bar to take you to your photos page.

This now looks very similar across all devices. So whether you are using Chrome or Android (or iOS) you will find usuality and style to be almost the same.
I will focus on Google Chrome as this is where most of the changes have been, and forgive me for any errors/omissions as I am still working it all through...

Site structure:

The side bar of options for e.g. profile, communities, ‘what’s hot’ etc, is now a hover activated one.
The top bar of e.g. for a profile options for ‘about’ are now at the top of the page instead of being underneath the ‘cover photo’

Google+ Search is hidden at the top until youneed it

WOO..Google+ knocks it out of the park

I was stuck in meetings all day, peeking at my phone when I could to get a hint of the changes we were all anticipating from G+. I''m honestly completely thrilled by everything that''s happened. I have already forgotten what the old stream layout looked like. I love how easy it is for me to see the amazing content that packs the G+ halls. I also love how my own page looks.  

The one thing I was dying to get home and try out is the Auto Awesome function, showcased earlier by +Brian Matiash. As I don''t have any DSLR images to plug into the Motion feature, I decided to test it out with some +GoPro timelapse images from the SF sunset last weekend. Ok, these are GoPro images so the quality isn''t great but the functionality in G+ is pretty fast, super user-friendly, and c''mon...it''s a little bit of genius.
