NASA2,455,892Having trouble watching the event? Try watching directly on YouTube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8LI5JiWEfs --------- Have you ever asked a question to someone in space? No? Well now’s your chance. In a first for the agency, NASA will host a Google+ Hangout live with the International Space Station on Feb. 22 from 10:30 a.m EST to 11:30 a.m. EST. Google+ Hangouts allow people to chat face-to-face while thousands more can tune in to watch the conversation live on Google+ or YouTube. This unique opportunity will connect you, our fans, with astronauts living and working on the orbiting laboratory 240 miles above the Earth. During the event, several video questions will be selected and answered by astronauts on the space station and on the ground. Additionally, NASA will ask real-time questions submitted by our followers on Google+, Twitter, and Facebook. Unique and original questions are more likely to be selected. You can view the Hangout live on the NASA Google+ page or the NASA Television YouTube channel to watch the astronauts answer the questions. SUBMITTING REAL-TIME QUESTIONS To ask a real-time question during the event on Google+ or Twitter, please use the hashtag #askAstro. You can also post a comment on a thread on NASA’s Facebook page that will open for questions on the morning of the event. WATCHING THE GOOGLE+ HANGOUT To join the hangout, and for updates and opportunities to participate in upcoming hangouts, visit NASA's Google+ page at http://plus.google.com/+NASA. During the hangout, astronauts Kevin Ford, Chris Hadfield and Tom Marshburn will answer questions and provide insights about life aboard the station. Station crews conduct a variety of science experiments and perform station maintenance during their six-month stay on the outpost. Their life aboard the station in near-weightlessness requires unique approaches to everyday activities such as eating, sleeping and exercising.NASA Long-Distance Google+ Hangout to Connect with Space Station2013-02-22 16:30:008329

Stormy seas in Sagittarius
This new NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope image shows the Lagoon Nebula, an object with a deceptively tranquil name. The region is filled with intense winds from hot stars, churning funnels of gas, and energetic star formation, all embedded within an intricate haze of gas and pitch-dark dust.

an unlocked phone that works with all US carriers and free from their interference on software updates all for just $399. This is what all the big OEMs(Samsung, LG, Sony) should be doing and what the average user in the US should be lining up for.

We need the Moto X to succeed

It's not a major secret that the US wireless phone industry is widely controlled by the major carriers here. From bloatware, to slow updates, to availability, everything done to carrier branded devices here in the US just plain sucks.

There is however, a better option, and that's unlocked phones sold directly to the consumer from the manufacturer. It's not done very often and when it is, there's often little success, because old habits die hard. The vast majority of consumers buy smartphones from their carrier's website or their carrier's storefront.

Chinese OEMs such as Huawei and others are trying to break into the US market by selling unlocked phones online, without carrier acknowledgement. However, the average consumer off the street has no clue who these companies are and we need this to change. These companies make great hardware too. It's a shame.

Motorola could help set a precedent here. Motorola is a well known brand and they're launching a phone here in the US that's unlocked, affordable, and carries the flagship moniker. We need this direct-to-consumer approach to take off. We need people to realize it's okay to buy a smartphone online.

I'm excited for this method to take off not only for unlocked phones without carriers muddying the waters, but for even more options. We all know what a Samsung phone or HTC phone looks like. We're very familiar with Motorola, LG, and Sony. I'm ready to see Huawei, OPPO, ZTE, and Xiaomi break into the US market and offer us even more choices.

So, I agree +Kellen Barranger. I hope that +Motorola Mobility sells more phones through Moto Maker than they could have ever imagined. The price is right. The design is right. The Google experience is right. This phone should be on everyone's radar.___an unlocked phone that works with all US carriers and free from their interference on software updates all for just $399. bright basin on Tethys
With the expanded range of colors visible to Cassini's cameras, differences in materials and their textures become apparent that are subtle or unseen in natural color views. Here, the giant impact basin Odysseus on Saturn's moon Tethys stands out brightly from the rest of the illuminated icy crescent. This distinct coloration may result from differences in either the composition or structure of the terrain exposed by the giant impact. Odysseus (280 miles, or 450 kilometers, across) is one of the largest impact craters on Saturn's icy moons, and may have significantly altered the geologic history of Tethys.

For their next goal, they are headed from $500,000 to $700,000 to tell the story of the first American in space, Alan Shepard. they plan to conserve, digitize, and display the Mercury suit Shepard wore during the first American manned space flight in 1961. ‘God bless you,’ Apollo 11 tells waiting world

HOUSTON - The voyage was “made possible by the blood, sweat and tears of a number of people,” Mike Collins, Command Module pilot, told a world watching by television. “All you see is the three of us...below are thousands and thousands of people.”

Lunar Module pilot Buzz Aldrin, normally a matter-of-fact and unemotional man, used a verse from the Psalms to reflect his feelings:

“When I consider the heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars which through hast ordained, what is man that Thou art mindful of him?”

Apollo 11 commander Neil Armstrong, the last to speak, told the world:
“The responsibililty for this flight lies first with history and the giants of science who preceed this...next to the American people...and their desire...to four administrations...to the agency and industry team...

“Our special thanks go to all those Americans who built those spacecraft, did the construction, the design, the tests, and put their hearts and all their abilities into those tasks.

“To those poeple we give a special ‘thank you.’ To all the others who are watching tonight, God bless you.”
The astronauts ended their brief televised message to earth with a picture of it growing blue in the distance out the window. As the telecast began, Armstrong explained, “It seems appropriate to us now to share some of the reflections of the crew.”

Delighted laughter from the spacecraft Wednesday greeted the report that a baby had been named “Module” in their honor. A weather report, telling of rain in Houston after a long drought, was read to them. “I think my yard could use some water,” said Armstrong. “I wish you’d find out the last time my yard was cut,” Aldrin requested.
“How are the chinch bugs ‘getting along?’” Collins interjected.

Communicator astronauts Owen Garriott checked quickly with the families and told Aldrin:
“The grass will be close to your knees by the time you get out of quarantine,” Garriott told Aldrin.

“We have no report from the chinch bugs,” he told Collins.
“Well, they’re just sort of taciturn little fellows,” Collins reported. “They don’t say much. They just sit there and chomp away.”

At 12:21 p.m. the astronauts abandon the “engine room” of their spaceship - the service module which also provided electrical power, oxygen and fuel. Then Collins swings the blunt end of the cone-shaped module toward the atmosphere so that its heat shield can take the shock and heat of re-entry, which comes 14 minutes later.

12:35 pm Entry began as the heat shield took the brunt of the entry heating.

With the world’s praise flooding into the shiny metal trailer which unheroically confines them, the Apollo 11 astronauts sailed slowly homeward on the final leg of their fantastic journey to the moon.

“As a result of what you’ve done,” President Nixon told them aboard the USS Hornet after a precise splashdown, “the world has never been closer...we can reach for the stars.”
Astronauts Neil Armstrong, Mike Collins and Ed Aldrin listened to the President from inside the quaratine trailer in which they will spend the next two days making their way back to Houston by sea and air.

President greets the crew in quarantine.
The welcome from the first landing on the moon was a strange mixture of medical necessity and emotional outpouring. The first order of business for the astronauts after landing was to don biologically safe garments and to be sprayed with a yellow disinfectant to guard against any possible moon germs.

But it was President Nixon’s official welcome on the hangar deck of the Hornet, talking through a plate glass window to the astronauts, which emotionally capped an already emotional week.

“I think I’m the luckiest man in the world,” he told the spacemen, for having “the privilege for speaking for so many people in welcoming you back to earth.”

The President was bubbling with enthusiasm when he revealed to the spacemen plans for a state dinner Aug. 13 in Los Angeles with the governors of all the states, the Congress and representatives from foreign nations, and joked that he “made a date” with the astronauts wives for the dinner.

Would the astronauts attend, the President asked?
“We’ll do anything you say Mr. President,” Armstrong replied.
Nixon’s enthusiasm burst out as he bent over for a better look at the astronauts inside their trailer.

“Gee,” the President almost shouted, “You look great!”
“I was thinking as you came down and we knew it was a success, this is the greatest week in the history of the world since creation...”

Sounds like a tight focused season with no filler
"Each season is its own separate movie. What we want to do is have each separate movie have its own identity. So almost to the point where each season was telling one big story that you could sort of subtitle, like the way you do subtitle 'American Horror Story,' if that makes sense."

Legends of Tomorrow

DC's Legends of Tomorrow will be an anthology series with standalone seasons. I think this is a good idea, especially if they can continue to have a rotating cast that showcases the DC stable of characters.

Apollo 11 halfway to home

HOUSTON - Down right chatty, the Apollo 11 astronauts joked and described more details of their mission as earth’s gravity tugged their spaceship ever faster toward home. At 1:28 a.m. they passed the second signpost on their celestial journey - the halfway point in their curving trip from the moon. At that point they were 167,000 miles from earth.

They put on a kind of “Mr. Wizard” television show for earthlings Tuesday night as astronaut Mike Collins presented what he called “a little demonstration for the kids.” He held some water upside down in a spoon to show that it was unaffected by gravity, but adhered to the spoon by cohesion.

Ed Aldrin used a can of ham spread to demonstrate how a gyroscope works and later showed a piece of bread floating around the cabin.

Collins also demonstrated the water pistol used to deliver liquids under pressure to the astronauts. He accidentally squirted himself in the face.

EMERGE practice pitch day at JSC
Today we hosted four teams from the department of homeland security's new accelerator program EMERGE that is run by +Tech Wildcatters. These teams are working on technologies for first responders and came to JSC to be inspired and talk with some of our folks who do wearable technologies, robotic augmentation and other tech that has overlaps between our needs for astronauts and the DHS' need for first responders.

July 21st 1969

1:11:13 am EST
After 22 hours on the surface of the moon, Luanr EVA operations is complete and the Crew closes the hatch for the last time in preparation of departing the surface.

9:44 a.m.
Shortly after arousing Collins, still circling the Moon in the Command/Service Module, Mission Control observes: "Not since Adam has any human known such solitude as Mike Collins is experiencing during this 47 minutes of each lunar revolution when he's behind the Moon with no one to talk to except his tape recorder aboard Columbia."

11:13 a.m.
The astronauts in Eagle are aroused. Aldrin announces: "Neil has rigged himself a really good hammock . . . and he's been Iying on the hatch and engine cover, and I curled up on the floor."

12:42 p.m.
Answering a question raised before they went to sleep, Aldrin reports: "We are in a boulder field where boulders range generally up to two feet, with a few larger than that... Some of the boulders are Iying on top of the surface, some are partially exposed, and some are just barely exposed."

1:52 pm EST
The Lunar Module ascent engine is ignited and departs to rendezvous with the waiting Mike Collins in the Command Module.

4:35 pm
The Ascent stage is docked with the Command Module. After more than hour of leak checks Buzz and Neil enter the Command Module.

6:41 pm
The crew jettisons the ascent stage and performs several seperation burns.

Radio Moscow makes a brief announcement: "Luna XV has. ..completed
its mission". In other words, the craft has crashed.
