NASA2,542,463Having trouble watching the event? Try watching directly on YouTube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8LI5JiWEfs --------- Have you ever asked a question to someone in space? No? Well now’s your chance. In a first for the agency, NASA will host a Google+ Hangout live with the International Space Station on Feb. 22 from 10:30 a.m EST to 11:30 a.m. EST. Google+ Hangouts allow people to chat face-to-face while thousands more can tune in to watch the conversation live on Google+ or YouTube. This unique opportunity will connect you, our fans, with astronauts living and working on the orbiting laboratory 240 miles above the Earth. During the event, several video questions will be selected and answered by astronauts on the space station and on the ground. Additionally, NASA will ask real-time questions submitted by our followers on Google+, Twitter, and Facebook. Unique and original questions are more likely to be selected. You can view the Hangout live on the NASA Google+ page or the NASA Television YouTube channel to watch the astronauts answer the questions. SUBMITTING REAL-TIME QUESTIONS To ask a real-time question during the event on Google+ or Twitter, please use the hashtag #askAstro. You can also post a comment on a thread on NASA’s Facebook page that will open for questions on the morning of the event. WATCHING THE GOOGLE+ HANGOUT To join the hangout, and for updates and opportunities to participate in upcoming hangouts, visit NASA's Google+ page at http://plus.google.com/+NASA. During the hangout, astronauts Kevin Ford, Chris Hadfield and Tom Marshburn will answer questions and provide insights about life aboard the station. Station crews conduct a variety of science experiments and perform station maintenance during their six-month stay on the outpost. Their life aboard the station in near-weightlessness requires unique approaches to everyday activities such as eating, sleeping and exercising.NASA Long-Distance Google+ Hangout to Connect with Space Station2013-02-22 16:30:008326

The wings of the butterfly
The Twin Jet Nebula, or PN M2-9, is a striking example of a bipolar planetary nebula. Bipolar planetary nebulae are formed when the central object is not a single star, but a binary system, Studies have shown that the nebula’s size increases with time, and measurements of this rate of increase suggest that the stellar outburst that formed the lobes occurred just 1200 years ago.

At Saturn, One of These Rings is not like the Others

When the sun set on Saturn's rings in August 2009, scientists on NASA's Cassini mission were watching closely. It was the equinox -- one of two times in the Saturnian year when the sun illuminates the planet's enormous ring system edge-on. The event provided an extraordinary opportunity for the orbiting Cassini spacecraft to observe short-lived changes in the rings that reveal details about their nature.

Like Earth, Saturn is tilted on its axis. Over the course of its 29-year-long orbit, the sun's rays move from north to south over the planet and its rings, and back again. The changing sunlight causes the temperature of the rings -- which are made of trillions of icy particles -- to vary from season to season. The changing sunlight causes the temperature of the rings -- which are made of trillions of icy particles -- to vary from season to season. During equinox, which lasted only a few days, unusual shadows and wavy structures appeared and, as they sat in twilight for this brief period, the rings began to cool.
In a recent study published in the journal Icarus, a team of Cassini scientists reported that one section of the rings appears to have been running a slight fever during equinox. The higher-than-expected temperature provided a unique window into the interior structure of ring particles not usually available to scientists.

3 Watch companies 12 new Android Wear watches to choose from
They all work with your Android and iOS phones. Which will you choose?

Smart watch-curious? Use an iPhone or Android phone? The number of watches you can use just went way, way up:

Announced today were 4 new Moto 360 watches, 2 sizes of the new Asus ZenWatch2, and 6 different combos of the Huawei Watch. I'm very psyched about this – it is a culmination of a lot of work from our partners and the Android Wear team.

Also, especially for women and men with small wrists who felt that previous watches were too big or bulky for them, the new Moto 360 for Women, Moto 360 42mm and the small Asus ZenWatch2 are very much worth a close look.

See this link for more details, including more links to pre-order a watch:

How does one even amass that many +LEGO bricks to begin with
I guess that is like 40 Death Star or Star Destroyer Ultimate Collector's Series sets to get 120k pieces. still those sets aren't cheap.

Standing 7-feet tall, 5 1/2 feet deep, and 6-feet wide, this build used 120,000 bricks and weighs approximately 286 pounds.

It was a fun event to take part in. The teams definitely have some cool concepts.
First Minute App - Helps EMT's translate on the fly victims symptoms  is in the play store now for beta https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.languagemapsinc.firstminute.demo

MindTalk - uses bone conduction in mouthguards for music and communication for athletes and first responders.

CyberTimez - uses Google glass for helping translate, watches for alerts and controlling stuff around the house.

SensorSphere - is like the BB-90 from star wars roaming your house keeping it safe or scouting a hazardous building evaluating the environment

We were excited to play a small part in this event and see what the teams produced. The overlap between First Responders and NASA's needs are more common than you would think. Hazardous conditions,  the need for data on the person's health and surrounding environment as well as the extreme environments we both operate in. During the program the teams came to JSC for inspiration as well as informal mentoring on their concepts now they are taking their concepts out into the world and we look forward to see how the technologies come to market.___It was a fun event to take part in. Robots growing 30k heads of lettuce per day
There are six stages to growing a lettuce at a factory: seeding, germination, raising the seedlings, transplanting them into a larger bed, raising the vegetable and harvesting. The company said it is still working on a machine that can handle the seeding process. And it still requires human eyes to confirm germination. Beyond that, every process is automated
are these vertical indoor farms in Mega Cities a wave of the future to cut down on land/water use, and transportation costs?

Saturn's moon Dione crosses the face of the giant planet in this view, a phenomenon astronomers call a transit. Transits play an important role in astronomy and can be used to study the orbits of planets and their atmospheres, both in our solar system and in others.

By carefully timing and observing transits in the Saturn system, like that of Dione (698 miles or 1,123 kilometers across), scientists can more precisely determine the orbital parameters of Saturn’s moons.

Disney Infinity 3.0 launch day
Three targets, two Walmart, one gamestop and one toysrus to get what we got. Still missing Sabine(target exclusive) and Ezra (TRU exclusive) could have gotten the starter pack for free if I was dishonest as the target checkout guy didn't realize the kit didn't scan and with the other items was oblivious to what the full total should have been. Corrected the issue but alas didn't earn enough karma points to find those two exclusive figures. Neither Walmart had any 3.0 stuff out luckily the second store at least knew where the kanan box was in the back. let the fun begin

makes me miss trek on TV
Some CGI was lower quality others really well done. Some well known stars in it and had potential to be a series. It is interesting to see the level of fan made trek between this and axanar almost on par with what trek was able to do on movie studio budget decades ago.

$2 for a great book
I read it pretty much in one afternoon sitting. Movie comes out in October so plenty of time to read the book first.

Quaid, Open your Mind. You must start the Reactor
You totally read that as Kuato from Total Recall didn't you.
So water on Mars, hmm that didn't turn out so well for the Bowie Base One in Doctor Who.
But back to reality water on Mars means oxygen to breathe, water to drink and hydrogen feedstock to convert carbon dioxide atmo into methane for rocket fuel making the #journeytomars a little bit easier

Who are your Favorite Spies/Secret Agents
not really a fan of Tom Cruise' Ethan Hunt.
Definitely would have Bond, Harry Hart, Harry Tasker, Jack Ryan and Bruce Lee as my top 5.

The kids have like 1.0 and 2.0 so far, but yeah it is a costly game/accessory and 3.0/star wars is going to hit the wallets soon enough.
Though you can get some deals at TRU and elsewhere for Buy 2 get one free or 3 for $30 deals. M4 and his friend were playing and building in the Toy Box 2.0 for hours so it isn't really that intimidating.

Great now the Skynet Hunter-Killers will be fully armed and ready for Judgement Day.

Before the bill was passed into law, the verbiage was modified to ban the drones from being fitted with lethal weapons. Good test drop today
Continuing the tradition of fail ops, fail safe today they lost one drogue and one main chute to show the redundancy needed for human spaceflight.

Engineers Complete Risky Test of Orion’s Parachute System

NASA’s successfully completed Aug. 26 a risky test of the Orion spacecraft’s parachute system. A test version of Orion touched down in the Arizona desert after a planned failure of two of its parachutes used to stabilize and slow the spacecraft for landing. During the test, a C-17 aircraft dropped a representative Orion capsule from its cargo bay at an altitude of 35,000 feet, or more than 6.5 miles, in the skies above the U.S. Army Yuma Proving Ground in Yuma, Arizona. The engineering model, which has a similar mass and interfaces with the parachute system as the Orion being developed for deep space missions, then began its parachute deployment sequence. Engineers purposefully simulated the failure of one of its two drogue parachutes, used to slow stabilize Orion in the air, and one of its three main parachutes, used to slow the crew module to landing speed, did not deploy. The airdrop test was the penultimate evaluation as part of an engineering series before tests begin next year to qualify the parachute system for crewed flights.___Good test drop today
