What to do when you are at work and someone witnesses a sock fall out of your pants leg?  Do you admit to wearing a pair of pants that you found on the floor?  The alternative is having them think that you stuff your crotch.  Am I the only one that is frequently confronted with this dilemma?

NOT a picture from tonight, just a stock picture.  You guys and gals in the southern midwest should know what to do.  Hang out in the basement, cellar or, what not.  If that is not an option go into the bathtub (also useful for gunfire) or under a really heavy piece of furniture.  If your are in a car leave it and seek lower ground as the car can be flung about and deposited miles away.  Forget this "Stop. Drop. and cover" nonsense that you might have been taught in school.  I was taught that and before it was called a "tornado drill" it was called a "nuclear drill."

Informing a woman that a series of, "Oohs, ahs, and uh-huhs" does not  mean that a man is interested in what you are saying was strangely satisfying for me.   I actually called it out and challenged him to say where she is from and why she is here (both amply covered).

Ladies, a series of bird-like condescending cooing noises doesn't mean crap.  Right.  It is none of my business.  Well that is unless my father was doing it.

Frank was seated at the receptionist desk and glared at me over the racing form that he was busy marking up, glared at his watch, and then glared back at me when I entered the office.  I said to myself, “Just what I need this morning of all mornings, a crotchety Frank”  Of course that is normally what I say to myself on any given morning.  Instead I inquired, “Good morning Sweets, any messages while I was away?”  Sure, that was designed to infuriate him and infuriate him it did, but I was having a rough morning and I had had it with Frank's constant crap.
A lesson in human physiology was learned.  Despite Frank's already blown out capillaries it is possible for his face to turn even more red.  He must have had a bad morning as well.  Frank bellowed, “I was here at 6:15!  Where were you?”

The house centipede +Joseph Kennedy.  They are also known as scutigera coleoptrata.  They come up from the sewers (which is nasty enough) and run around acting all haughty.  When my dogs or my cat sees them they treat them like a play toy.  Well they are venomous.  Bad idea.  When I see them I scream like a little girl and chase them (they are very fast).  They always freeze when they find a shadow to hide in.  Yeah, I see you there.  Welcome to my boot.  Mostly they hangout in the basement, but they have crept up to the third floor.

Also I used to have to deal with flying cockroaches when I lived in Hong Kong.  Yeah, that is a real thing and they fly straight at your head for whatever reason.  I already ranted about my hatred of wasps.

My family is split down the middle over this issue.  Mostly the men like the Sox and the women like the Cubs.  I do respect three of the Cubs fans as they are just real  baseball fans and can spout off ridiculous statistics about any team which I cannot do.  Mostly the Cubs fans just like the Cubs because it is the thing to do though.  I have gone to Wrigley Field with them and watched them while they chit-chat about.  The "real" baseball fans that I took to the Cell that are also Cubs fans are focused on the game and scoring it.

A Glimpse Into My Twisted Mind (last night's dream).

Finding myself running late to class I hopped on the nearest elevator to bring me to the 10th floor.  Upon noticing the gold plated elevator buttons on the interior that only went up to five,  I said, "Damn it!  I am always doing this.  I'll have to find another elevator at the tenth floor."  To which the only other occupant of the carriage simply said, "Yes you will."  She happened to be a very attractive woman.  In no time the doors opened and I found myself on the fifth floor.

The fifth floor was a training room for the Blackhawks.  Some random guy trying to help me out in a sotto voice said that I did not belong here.  To which I said, "I know!  I am looking for the elevator to the 10th floor."  So I fled down the corridor in search of the elevator.

The latest and biggest Mag Mile flash mob robbery.  This crap is really  reflecting poorly on the CPD.  Mayor Rahm Emanuel has increased the police presence there which might be having some limited effect on the flash mobs.  This sort of crap is not doing Chicago any favors promoting tourism.  The Magnificent Mile is on north Michigan Avenue and is mostly really high end shops.  This lady dressed up in her finest to shop there.  Some say that she was a walking target because of that.  They also say that she would not have been mugged if she wore jeans and a tee-shirt.  Of course.  A woman should be allowed to dress up for a shopping excursion if that is what she wants to do.  This neighborhood (Gold Coast) is mostly safe though.  I used to live on the 800 block of north Dearborn and only found it shady after around midnight.  Now it is in broad daylight.  As much as it pains me to say this,"If you ... more »

WGN radio in Chicago has been doing ads for this south suburb.  The link does not do it justice.  At first their big selling point was, "Home of the big water supply."  Uh, Lake Michigan.  Then they modified it to promote that they have electricity, telephones, and natural gas.  Right.  So they are not in the 1800's.  Good work!  I will be moving my business down there.

These kids are not getting one dime out of me.  This is the plan:  promote the library with a nine foot tall statue of the Incredible Hulk.  Didn't the Hulk turn from a perfectly good scientist into something that cannot read much less speak?  Why on Earth would this be an appropriate statue?  Because some kids like comic books (sorry that is what they are--  call them graphic novels if you like, they are still comic books).  Also they seem to want to be provided with crappy Apple stuff.

I do see that you can sign out of hangouts now which is cool as I have little interest in doing that for the most part.  That is nice.  Yet the hangout section still occupies 1/5 of the screen because apparently Google knows better than I know what I want to do.  And now it seems that there is now way to politely decline a community invite.  It is nice that an X was placed next to the notification.  However that does absolutely nothing on communities that I passed on five times the former way.  That gets in the way as it always shows up in the right hand stream column.  And this mute thing needs to get under control.  Things that I have zero interest in I press mute and I am kindly told that it is muted, yet the full sized post hogs up real estate.  What is the point of that unless I posted on the thread and no longer want to see that thread?

Meanwhile in America...  Somehow America manages to export more oil than import and there is always a reason that gasoline costs so much.  I think the current excuses are that due to the extreme rain there was fear that water might have gotten into a pipeline (it did not) and something about switching to a summer blend.  Chicago is an extreme example though and the bulk of the cost is due to taxes.  Gas stations also set their prices on speculation of what gas will cost the next month.  I suspect they set the price based on what other gas stations are charging (price fixing) instead.  You never see a gas station lower their prices when the speculation is that oil will be cheaper the next month.  It is a one-way street.

Deaths tend to bring out the worst in people.  When my last grandparent died things got nasty.  Not probate court nasty, but nasty none the less.  She specifically said that she wanted to be cremated and have no service.  A full funeral and service it is!  Her boyfriend "Colonel Bill" made off with jewelry and other items specifically bequeathed to my aunt.  His argument was, "Well I gave them to her.  They are mine."  That is not how gifting works.  My uncle yelled, "We all know exactly where they are!  They are in the trunk of his car.  Let's pop the trunk!"  My father accused Colonel Bill of murdering his mother (left her crying on the floor for eight hours before calling  an ambulance).  In the end all of her children got $50,000.  All of her female grandchildren got $10,000.  The male grandchildren got $2,000.  My male cousin looked at me when we foundthis out and we ... more »

The original modern day terrorists were the Provisional Irish Republican Army.  Their tactics were designed to instill terror.  They actually went to north Africa to teach Muslims terrorist techniques.  The big beef was over Northern Ireland and the general treatment of the Irish in Britain.  It was many decades of conflict with countless deaths.  Only the Irish could label that era as "The Troubles" as that puts things rather mildly.

There is one game today and that is in the lesser conference.  Stay strong Islanders and force a game seven.  They are playing over their heads.  The only thing decided is that conference so far is that the lowly SNES advanced to the eastern semi-finals by defeating les Habitants in five games.  The Stove Tops  can't seem to get a handle on the Crapitals which were unfairly seeded because they play in a crap division.  That will go to at least game six.  That is all that there is to report out of the east other than a player from the east will win the Hart trophy while Jonathan  Toews continues to be the best overall player in the league.  He is in the wrong conference I guess.

On email, specifically Gmail:

My mother wanted a new email account as a "garbage account" for signing up for things.  That sounded like a good plan and I suggested creating a Gmail account.  It is completely backwards as her main account is AOL, but whatever.  She could not create an account because Gmail now demands verification through a text on the phone.  Some elderly ladies like my mother do not have cellular phones.

Last night I walked in on my parents (their house you sick bastard).  My father was screaming about the new tomato plants.  "We don't grow these tomatoes!"  To which I had to say, "I think he is pronoun-challenged.  He always says we when he means I.  We don't shop at Home Depot.  We like rare meat.  We don't like white wine.  We like sausage pizza."  In hindsight that was probably the wrong thing to say as it infuriated him.  I could not stop myself though seeing the reaction that caused and next said, "We blow a gasket over the tiniest things."
