Arctic Fox Cub

Kneeling in the wet tundra, the group of photographers I was with stayed very still as the two inquisitive fox cubs ran around and had a sniff at us. One was more bold than the other and thus gave us a good few chances to get some photographs.

Cheetah cub

This little chap was photographed on a kill in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in South Africa. The mom was an accomplished hunter and had killed for them the previous day. They had no interest in eating, so sat and watched the photographers in the 4x4's .

Campaign Against Canned Lion Hunting

For more than a decade Bev and I have carried the costs of the Campaign out of our own savings. Including lecture tours overseas. Other than 2006 when the Marchig Award came with some welcome funding, we’ve had almost no financial support.

Bengal Tiger

This beautiful cat was one of two brothers found just outside the fence of Bandhavgarh National Park in India. They are simply the most beautiful of cats.

Sunset on the Mara

The end of a great day photographing in the Masai Mara. We found a spot with the tree on the horizon, lined up the setting sun and waited for some beasties to walk though. Having a driver who understands photography and light really helped.

Asian Buffalo

This big fellow was photographed in the lovely Manas National Park in Assam India. It was part of a trip I did a while back, to chase the greater one-horned rhinoceros or Indian Rhino...
The park is a mixture of Jungle and open reed beds and we spotted this chap as he left a mud hole.

Red Deer stag

The largest mammal in the UK. This was taken during the annual deer rut, it was a cold, wet day (what else) and I surprised this male who was resting down in the bracken. Got a few photos of him and then left him to his rest.

How to lose your mom...divide and conquer.

Saw this lovely lioness and her 3 young cubs walking down the middle of the dry river bed near the Craig Lockhart Waterhole in the paradise that is the Kgalagadi. Two of the cubs dutifully followed her, but the one little shit kept turning around and walking off in the opposite direction. She picked him up and turned him around seven times in a hundred meter stretch, then gave up and sumply carried him in her mouth while the other two walked...

Regal Beauty

As much as I love the Big cats of Africa, there is something truly special about the Tiger. Maybe its because I was brought up South Africa and the Tiger is still new and unknown. How people could pay to eat parts of this animal is beyond me, and we call ourselves civilised!

Processing some old Kruger photos and I came upon this little blighter. Its a very curious young Klipspringer that walked right up to the car. I totally forgot about this encounter and the fact that he stood and looked at me in the car for about 5 minutes made it all the more special. Klipspringer in Afrikaans is translated as RockJumper

Those who have been to Africa will tell you tales that seem legendary and embellished about how magnificent the night skies in our continent are. Those stories are true. And I have rarely seen the stars shine brighter than in the Kalahari, Namibia and Mana Pools. There's only a few spaces left to join myself and +Marlon du Toit in Mana Pools in July on an unforgettable +Wild Eye photographic safari. Not only will we spend time photographing the magnificent wildlife and scenery of Mana, we will also try our hand at capturing the starry skies over the Zambezi. I was standing right on the riverbank for this one - our camp site was to the right of the big tree just out of frame. Lions were roaring in the distance. What a blissful moment!
