I love watching sunsets and sunrises as the color paints the sky. The best time for color is when a storm front is either approaching or leaving.

This is  what the summit of Grassy Ridge Bald in the Roan Mountain Highlands looks like.  You reach an elevation of  6,189 feet (1,886 m). This is one of the highest grassy balds in the Appalachian Mountains.  It is very windy up here, but what a view!

This is the start of the Appalachian Trail at the base of Round Bald a part of the Roan Highlands in the Southern Appalachians.  The trail heads towards Jane Bald and Grassy Ridge Bald where amazingly beautiful Rhododendrons bloom. Normally peak bloom is in late June, but this year they are a couple of weeks early. I was there last weekend and this is what I saw.

The flaming Azaleas were in bloom up on Roan Mountain this weekend. I hiked up the Appalachian Trail  from Carver's Gap to the east.  The trail ascends Round Bald and proceeds across Grassy Ridge. I hiked up to the summit of Grassy Ridge Bald an elevation of 6,189 feet. The view is spectacular, you can see Grandfather Mountain to the east and the Black Mountains to the south.

I love walking among the old live oak trees, there is so much history. I like to imagine who all has walked among these majestic trees that you see in the low country of South Carolina. The azaleas make a lovely colorful carpet below.

This is a Trillium, a flower that blooms in the Spring in the Mountains. I took this photo up on the Blue Ridge Parkway in NC. The weather pattern this year in the South East has brought Spring about two weeks earlier than in recent years.

Plus One Magazine - Let's talk big picture

Well, so.. Going back to the idea of putting a community magazine together. Should we go ahead and do it? +Andy Lee put a very rough sketch together of what the cover may look like, and that got us all fired up again, so I thought I'd share. Hope Andy won't kill me.

Anyway - here are some of our initial thoughts on the content and as always, we want it to be a community project, so let's discuss and all your ideas are welcome.

Each magazine will first come out as a print edition, and perhaps after some time we can release e-zine, if there's enough interest. We'll publish it through MagCloud, which is pretty much Blurb for magazines - where magazines are printed on demand.

I took this photo at Magnolia Plantations and Gardens near Charleston, South Carolina. One of my favorite spots is this alley of live oaks with hanging Spanish moss and the beautiful azalea flowers blooming beneath. The colors are so beautiful and vibrant when the azaleas are blooming in the Spring.

Women Photographer's Of G+

It has taken a while to compile this circle as women photographers only account for around 30% of the photographers currently on G+, hence the reason for the share.

I have to say in building this circle (and any other circles out there) you really get to see the depth of talent that is on G+.
